It's a typical price for a good brand "slow juicer" which is nothing like a typical cheap high speed juicer

I have. It's fairly standard price for this class of product. There are el cheapo models out there for $200, but I can't comment on the quality or reliability. They aren't made by respectable brands.

No, they're not. The good one like this will feature heavy duty machine that will last for ages, plus all plastic parts are bpa free. Last time bought mine from sharp through ozbairgain deal for $299 down from $400 something, worth every cents, makes best vegies + fruits juice ever.
a very good 'slow juicer' or otherwise known as a cold press juicer is at the good guys for under $300 eg Aquaport. A sunbeam cold press juicer is under $200 at the good guys.
Forget those brands, they are rubbish. I just bought a Hurom 500 for $250 delivered with local warranty.

I have had an aquaport and the only time its let me down was when i first got it and was juicing for over 2 hours, it overheated and switched itself off as a safety feature. - well i guess it didn't let me down but protected itself.
I have had it for 6 months now and its still going strong, and now that i know how it works i can get 4 bottles (2L) of juice in about 15-20 mins.
Whenever they have the $15 off every $75, it's $409.
It's quite good. But a bit too much pulp makes its way into the juice. I'm told this is an unavoidable quirk of slow juicers. If you don't want that, you need a strainer or net.
We bought a Hurom last year. Very Happy with it.
its fairly quiet when working, excellent design and build quality, some pulp does makes it thru but only takes a couple of minutes to rinse/brush clean when finished.
Overlooked having to buy / prep more fuit / veggies which needs a bit more tupperware in the fridge.
