[Expired] Free Software - Corel Paint Shop Pro X (valued £50)

590

[Update (21/7/09)]: Looks like this offer from Corel/Lexar has now expired - sorry! Will keep a look out to see if it re-appears again.

[Original Post]:
Corel Paint Shop Pro X is a Commercial photo / image editor, which is now available for free for a limited time.

This offer is being offered by Corel in association with Lexar, and is available for download from the Australian AtomicPC website.

Note that this is a free program (not cut-down/lite version), but is an older version of the software.
Also, there's possibly a promo screen when you terminate the program that prompts you to upgrade to the new version.

  • so which is better this one or the Aurora Photo Editor?

i've not used either programs, but have previously used a very very old version of Paint Shop Pro (version 5 i think) and was happy with it.

Paint Shop Pro X is considered to be an alternative to Adobe's Photoshop Elements (cut-down version of Adobe's bigger Photoshop software).

It's been given a good rating by CNET. You can read a brief review of it at:
      http://reviews.cnet.com/graphics-and-publishing/corel-paint-…

I don't know much about Aurora, but if you're on a MAC, then probably give Aurora a try as Paint Shop Pro X is only for the Windows PC environment :)

I am not sure either - I am a windows guy anyhow.

I just picked up both software for free - just want to know what to install.

        Aurora was free here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/14612

        • Install both:

Use Aurora to organise your photos and for basic editing

Paint Shop Pro for anything more complex - format shifting resizing etc

    • From the number of votes right now I'll say

Paint Shop Pro X 0wnz Aurora Photo Editor :)

(I am a Gimp person which you can tell by how bad the graphics this site has :)

  • Awesome - thanks for the link. Downloading at 1.3MB/s.

  • Downloaded, installed & played with.

    Excellent software.

Anyone who doesn't take advantage of this offer will hate themselves in the morning…

According to Wikipedia this version was released 8 September 2005 and sold until 12 September 2006. Seems like a good deal.

  • Uploading now 1.4mb/s

  • 1.7mb/s :d

  • Great Find, I've used Paint Shop Pro for years and love it.

Pull yourself together Carruthers, you're starting to sound gay.

  • I have a bad habit of taking crooked photos, been looking for a program that will straighten the photo and then crop the resulting crooked edge. This one is brilliant, simple, fast, with great result. Will save me heaps of time, thank you!

i just did some photoshoot and wanted to have clearer teeth n smoother skin! does this remove braces from the teeth???

    • in the CNET review's 'product at a glance' slideshow, there was a mention of a 'toothbrush' touch up tool. I'm not sure how successful it will be to remove braces - but may help with giving teeth a whiter look:

      http://reviews.cnet.com/1991-3513_7-6313351-6.html

Alternatively, you can try their 'object removal' touch up tool and see if you can remove braces that way:

      http://reviews.cnet.com/1991-3513_7-6313351-7.html

i don't think by default most image editing software (including the more expensive Commercial ones like Adobe's Photoshop) contains an in-built tool to remove braces. The most common touch up tool is probably the 'red-eye removal' tool.

      Hope this helps :)

"Also, there’s possibly a promo screen when you terminate the program that prompts you to upgrade to the new version". Yes it does do that on each exit.

did anyone have this problem on your pc?
" Tried this, and was rather annoyed that it decided it needed to load the licensing service, which runs all the time, even if you aren't using Paint Shop Pro/. Even worse, it didn't un-install the service once PSP was un-installed."

  • Is this still valid?
