JBHIFI have fallen so far. They used to be my favorite retailer.

    • +11

I think more of a mix bag now depending on which store you go to as well. They use to be pretty good with price matching, now they're just complete assholes, and make up a shit tone of reasons.

      • +11

a lot of their staff are arrogant

        • +4

maybe because they have to deal with ozbargainers.

        • Oh YEAH, because we all go to JB now for their low cost!! (face meet palm)

        • +1

I rang a JB Hi-fi at about 8:15 one morning, and I didn't know what time they opened.

          "Yeah?"
          "Hi, is this JB Hi-fi?"
          "Yeah."
"Hi, I'd like to find out what price you have on a PanaSony XYZ-123 TV please."
          "We don't open till 8:30."
"Oh, sorry, I thought you would be open at this time."
(with an attitude) "No. No shops around here open at 8."
"Well, some shops do, I wasn't sure of your opening hours."
(with even more attitude) "Mate, nobody opens at 8. Which shops open at 8? Have you BEEN to a shop that's open at 8?"

I hung up and spent my $2500 at Good Guys instead. (By the way, some shops DID open at 8 in that centre.)

        • +8

You should have done the Pretty Woman/Julia Roberts thing and walked into JB carrying the TV, find the guy and say "you're the one that said you didn't open at 8am. You work on commission right…big mistake…BIG MISTAKE…HUGE".

  • For those with knowledge of DSLR cameras and specifically the sale of those, is it worth buying a Nikon DSLR body from here and picking up lenses else where? Or would it be cheaper to buy a single or twins lens kit from somewhere else (say Costco or Digital Camera Warehouse)?

    • You may be wrong
In my ex, I was after a nikkor 24-70 f2.8 for awhile but they seem have the best price before this 10% lens.

Looking at some of those GPS prices, they appear higher than normal. Is this like one of those Target sales, where you mark stuff up 20% the day before the 10% off sale begins?

    • +1

Yes. They do it. I was watching a specific TV price closely about a year ago. I was $998 for a while, Then it went up to $1198 for about a week. Then the magic 10% off TVs sale came in, to a "crazy" price of $1078!

      • Like some of the woolworths & coles 50% off sales… price jacked up to insane levels and then a generous 50% off… :-(

        • Coles still selling pepsi for $3 for 2litres is a good example, its on sale every 2nd week. Even more local petrol station sells pepsi cheaper

The Magellan explorist range is actually quite decent in terms of value - they literally are 20% off RRP. They're quite power-hungry, mind you - a great way to employ the pallet of unused Eneloops sitting in the spare room.

Unusual that the Sennheiser RS160 are dearer than the RS170's but still no were near as good as deals that have been posted over the last week or so

  • +7

If I miss out on these deals by Monday, I'm sure JB will having similar deals the following Friday… because that's what JB does. JB deals aren't worth looking forward to anymore imo.

  • The Pioneer 7" 2DIN Multimedia Player With Bluetooth AVHX8550BT For $428.60 seems like a good deal ?

    • Hmm, seems OK however I bought two AVH-3600DABs a couple of weeks ago during JBs last '30% off' sale for only $373.10 each! Even though this is a 30% off sale too these units now seem to be selling for $452.90: http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/car-sound/car-dvd/pioneer-avh…

Not sure what's going on there and why I got them so much cheaper only 2 weeks ago but the main reason I went for the AVH-3600DAB was because it has a DAB tuner. The AVH-X8550BT has a larger screen and a hidden disc slot so it looks a lot slicker however it doesn't have a DAB tuner. It may not be a big deal for some but DAB is a must-have for me.

      My 2c…

      • The regular price went from $550 to $640 in between sales.
        SHONK!

        • Yeah, I'm pretty sure the sticker price on the boxes was something crazy like $640 but when I got mine the RRP must've been down around the $550 mark because 30% off that is about what I paid.

So I got a good deal by the looks but it does go to show how careful you have to be about RRPs. JB seem to be pulling a few tricks like this out of their hat. Not good.

Thanks! Paired with the 10% off gift cards from BigW over the weekend, I can finally get the Canon 6D for $1530.

  • For the camera I'm looking at, this deal is only marginally better than usual online prices (not for grey import stuff either) once you factor in the 10% off giftcards. Positive deal nonetheless..Time to find a quiet time to put 15 gift cards through!

  • Problem is though as we ozb voted jb out of our shopping Mecca , jb is still profitable and no.1 top seller in oz for electronic items . The rest of oz is definitely on the wrong path !!!
