    • It's an old retail trick:

      If you approach via a discount link, you save;
if you get there via a normal link, you might pay normal price.

(If you're lucky, the item will scan at discounted price no matter how you came to buy it… if not, you might end up paying too much.)

I see (in comments below) that both links remained active.

Does that mean that some buyers might pay higher price, at least when ordering by old SKU or web link (saved before discount link was added)?

      • Just added both to my cart..One Via each of the links and they both come up as $89.
        Total of $178…

Why would they sell exactly the same product for 2 different prices on the same website ?

      • Just because they were updating …. now the same.

  • Combine with Amex $30 off $150 @ HN for more goodness :)

    • If one don't have AMEX you can price match at Officeworks to get 5% off. Currently they listed $99.

      • if you work for coles-liquorland-OW its double discount for team members this long weekend so 10% again then use your ING pay wave card for another 5%.

        you beautyyy

      • +1

they wont be able to see what you bought

        • Why then did they put in those specific exclusions? There were no such exclusions for TGG Amex deal last month.

If it works let us know because AMEX usually send you an email within minutes of qualifying for an account credit.

      • buy gift cards, then buy apple stuff

      Screenshot or didn't happen.

      • +14

This is common knowledge now. It has been happening for ages when you click on a HN link directly from Ozbargain.

      Just happened to me too.

  • does this one work with xbmc? I see now you can install it on all ios devices? but still says aptv 1 and 2

    • XBMC is for aptv1 and aptv2 only.

    • +1

You can only install it on Jailbroken iOS devices, and there is currently - and most likely never will be - a jailbreak for the Apple TV 3 unfortunately.

    • You can install PlexConnect and use Plex on any AppleTV. No jailbreak required and takes about 1 minute. Looks good and has been working fine for me for months.

      • @carny, I did that with my ATV too but that meant that the Plex Server (i.e. my PC) needed to be on in order to do Airplay.
So that meant I needed to keep my PC on all the time so I could use Airplay when I felt like it. It became too much of a pain so I bit the bullet and paid for Plex on my mobile.
Did you have the same problem ? How did you overcome it ? Thanks in advance.

  • Thanks OP, just price matched at Officeworks.

  • -4

No thanks can't jailbreak. Yup as usual downvotes lol

    • hi-larious

      • -1

Yup keep it coming. Any iOS devices that I cannot jailbreak I will not buy. Simply that. I can't do anything with it.

  • New to Apple devices - can you connect an Portable Hard Drive to Apple TV's so you can watch movies stored on there?

    • Nope

      Wait for ios666

    • get a WD

Does anyone know whether this is Apple TV 1 or 2? (I've never used before). Aloso can it run XBMC with custom addon (zip file)? Thanks alot.

    • +2

It'll be an ATV3, and no, you can't jailbreak, so no XBMC, etc.

    • As I said above, you can install PlexConnect and use Plex on any AppleTV. No jailbreak required and takes about 1 minute.

      • Plex is not XBMC, they serve different purposes.

Plex requires you to have a computer/NAS running a plex server program, and many NAS's aren't capable of it. XBMC just connects to any network drive/computer/NAS "as is", no extra software needed.

  • Anyone can comment if a new gen Apple TV is around the corner?

  • Thanks OP!
Bought the iPad 4th Gen from TGG recently for $418. Time to try their pricebeat guarantee!

Given how so many people are asking if this ATV3 can run XBMC… would it work to run XBMC on your jailbroken ipads and mirror it through the apple tv?

I'm just asking out of curiosity, my HTPC with XBMC runs fine.

  • I got a refurbished Apple TV from the Apple website for $79 (including delivery). They came in original sealed packaging, clear sticky plastic wrap on the device, etc. I honestly could not tell the difference between the refurbished one and a brand new one (I got one recently from the OzBargain DSE sale). A cheaper alternative to consider.

      Bought 4 apple tv's, 1 iMac, 1 pod touch & 2 iPad mini's that way
All good (come with same 12 month warranty and I know that they have been personally rechecked).
The iMac also came with extra storage and wireless keyboard & mouse that wasn't originally included..

What can you really do with it if you don't have a US VPN or DNS account for Netflix? And you don't jail break? Curious what you can use it for

    • Use the apps that are on it, and watch any videos that you have loaded in itunes.

      • Also, install PlexConnect and watch all the movies you've downloaded outside of iTunes.

        • PlexConnect, but I have an ARM-chip NAS can't really install Plex hence can't host any Plex related stuff to be conencted from AppleTV…and I don't use iTunes at all…

          I'm not sure really.

        • Plex isn't an option for many people. My NAS doesn't let me install any Plex Server software.

Went to HN Knox City last night to buy an iPad 4 16Gb after checking the web site that they had stock. No stock. Went to JB HiFi Knox, no price matching. Went to DSE Knox, no stock. Target Knox, no stock.

Went to Officeworks FTG, they don't stock iPad, have to buy and pay online and then pick up from store. No deal.

Finally picked up an iPad 4 16Gb WiFi at Officeworks Chadstone this morning on the way to work for $372.40 after 5% off against this deal.

Why is it so damn tough to buy things from bricks and mortar stores?

    • Because they don't mean business? Well, partly because iPad 4 is discontinued.

  • Thanks OP!! Got an Apple TV price-matched at OW. Now to sort out Netflix and a VPN… :-)

  • I really want a ATV but should I wait for ATV4?

    • Depends, there hasn't been an ATV4 announcement yet, and its been over 2 years since the ATV3 released which is almost unheard of for Apple. If that means a new one isn't coming, or a new one is right around the corner, well it's a toss up. If you want one, get a 3 IMO. It's only $90 and you could be waiting years for a 4 if it ever even comes out.

  • JB Hifi did a price match for me too. I wasn't the only one either as there were a couple of MacBooks whose screens were already showing the HN deal.

No point waiting for the ATV4 as it will come out at a high premium price point and there is no ETA for it yet anyway.

  • Picked a Ipad retina up for 392, HN oxley. Ordered online picked up 3 hrs later

  • what is apple tv good for?
I got one and don't know what to do with it?
It is apple tv gen.3 so no jailbreak no xbmc
