Be warned with ceiling fans - I just learnt an expensive lesson - you have to have extra wiring put in your ceiling. If you have existing lights, the wiring for those lights is not sufficient for a fan (due to the fan needing to be controlled independently of the lights, as well as speed control). I have a flat ceiling in my apartment and almost no electricians will even consider doing it, so I just basically wasted my money. These fans really need to have a disclaimer saying that they're only suitable for certain kinds of installations.

I guess you're no fan of this deal?

Isn't that what the remote control is for? to control speed without the extra wiring?

    • Trying not to lose your cool?

    • Maybe you should have gotten one of these then… you can turn the light on and off with a button on the remote. Speed is also adjusted on the remote, so you don't need any of that on the wall.

Yeah exactly, I have a flat roof on my house with no roof access due to solar panels being bolted down so can't lift the metal sheets to run new wiring. The remote fans are perfect, just hook them up to the existing light wiring and the remote does the rest. No need for additional wires or a wall controller.

Word of warning though, I bought similar ones From startco. The cheapies are hit and miss with quality. Some aren't balanced correctly or might have a hum or whine to them. Luck of the draw.

    • Or the white one which is even cheaper http://r.ebay.com/gaXVWc $68.90

    • Are they of the same quality? Will you have better luck with the OP's one than the cheaper ebay ones?

      • Don't know, they are both budget Chinese made fans.

Cetnaj is a bricks and mortar company with a lot of stores, so you may get better support.

Also as general rule most warranties are claimed to be invalid if fans are not installed by a licensed electrician.
