Bought one yesterday to replace our Dyson DC17 which the wife felt wasn't doing a great job of picking up per hair.
On it's 1st run round the house it filled the dust canister twice so it seems to be doing a better job so far. Plenty of reviews of it here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009A8AMHE/ref=pd_lpo_sbs…

    • What's the capacity? If I'm reading it right, Amazon says it's 2 ltr while Godfrey's says it's 3?

    • Only negative point I'd say so far is it feels about half the weight of our old Dyson, so it feels a bit fragile in comparison, but with a 3yr warranty I'd say it's worth the risk.

    • picking up per hair? no wonder Hobbes your wife felt it wasn't doing a great job ;7)

    • When was the Dyson last run if you dont mind me asking? Just bought one of these but need to pick it up tomorrow. So far, reviews are really good!

Would this be suitable for a house with no pets as well. But I have 3 girls at home with long hair (wife and kids) They too drop hair everywhere at home and I am tired of picking them up. Current vac gets clogged with hair too quickly and looses the suction.
Tempted to give this a try. Would this suit for me??

More reviews here. Still doing well in the UK, despite 280 pounds
    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4068316.htm

Cheers OP, ordered one! For $150 its worth a crack :)

  • Any other specials that Godfreys has online?

  • +4

Don't think my dog would be able to use it.

    • +2

No its against RSPCA pet housework law number 20071.

      • +5

        That's right!

Apart from the fact she pawses far too often anyway.

  • I'm looking for a vacuum cleaner to remove a lot of dust. How does this compare to Dyson? I might buy this one, cheaper and reviews say it is stronger

    • It leaves it in the dust :p

I have no idea really. Have a Dyson with turbine head myself which does a good job.

  • how long is this special for i heard on tv it said this weekend only i really want to pick one up tommorow

    • Just bought one on-line.

Free delivery, so you can order now.

Saved me a trip to local Godfreys store - thanks, OP.

    • according to the sales it will last for whole month.

  • Just ordered one.

  • Got one, hopefully its $150 well spent.

  • +1

Looked into it and ordered it. Reviews are very good and best thing its light for 150 not much off a risk

  • Does anyone know how long the filter last? New filters are quite expensive from Godfrey.

    • Godfrey's say 2 years minimum if u clean properly

  • Is it available instore?

  • Also, was it ever sold for $499?? Godfrey's is like chemist warehouse when it comes to marketing ..

    • Yep (for how long, who knows..)

  • +1

Anyone got any thieghs on how it would be on wooden floor boards?

Only had cheap vacuums until now and have been looking at Dyson or shark or miele, but this looks promising and a good deal.

  • Vax sucks! Worth the penny for the newer model. Even Dyson try to sue them from technology stealing. Must be good!

  • Couldn't find any other vax upright for under $300. Was hard to compare similar model prices.

Godfreys in NZ still have them listed for $599(NZ dollars I assume)
    http://www.godfreys.co.nz/vacuum-cleaners/speciality/pet-hai…

This looks like it is the same model but for the UK…£170 (the £99 one did not look anything like it)
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vax-U88-AM-P-Multi-Cyclonic-Bagless-…

Looks like a solid buy at $149…..3 years local warranty (brick and mortar store) …..pretty good reviews out there….plus free shipping to your door!

  • How do you order online? i only see INSTORE ONLY and ENQUIRE NOW ?

    • Looks like they've sold out online

      • Damn it, took an hour to think about it. Will have to see if the stores are open tomorrow.

  • +1

Would you be able to take it straight back to the Godfrey store if you have any issues with it?

    • Of course you would, it has a 3 year guarantee

  • I don't have a pet, but my other half complains about vacuum's suction power. Should I get this one? And we don't even have carpet floors.

  • We have the older model to this, circa '07. Its still going strong. Would buy again. I think ours was like 100 bux from target.

  • Scored one. Hornsby NSW has 2 in box + 1 demo units left. Sales said no trade in allowed as this is cost price already.

  • Are those filters washable, or need to buy new ones?

    • got one from Hoppers Crossing, from a quick look see , there is one filter in motor area that is non washable, and others(i think 2 ) are washable with a recommended wash every 3 months… seems to be very decent build quality - worth the $149 price tag.

  • So very tempted to buy it but I just got the Dyson Animal Handstick & it's still working wonders!
But then again.. 70% off.. Oh gosh..

  • So I am assuming its 1200 WATTS rating is not comparable to my standard vacuum cleaner that is weak and has about 1600 WATTS? Any other power rating on it?

    • Power is not that important these days. Dyson never quote their power. It is about airflow power or something.

  • Not stock around Altona Meadows eg. Hoppers Cross, Brooklyn, Sunshine, HighPoint, Taylors Lakes or Geelong.

Sent them an email to see if they have stock anywhere and whether they would hold one.

  • Purchased online on Friday night then found them in store on Saturday at Everton park qld. Should have purchased in store as I would have got that free scrubber as I also purchased a Bissell stick vac for $140 off. $59. Two bargains.

  • will pick on up

  • Just picked one up and did a quick vacuum and wow – definitely picks up a lot of stuff that I didn't know was there.

Having come from a bagged vacuum though, hard to know if it would have got picked up anyway. But carpets look cleaner than with the previous Vax I had (non powerhead, bagged)

    For $149, super happy!

For the record, I have a labrador – and it seems to have picked up her hair very well. Again, i vacuumed for about 2 minutes just then, so will do a more in depth test later.

    • the main test will be to see if the suction stays the same over time. I had a philips powerpro active that was super powerful… for 3 months… then it was really weak. So that had to go back for a full refund at Target!

      • Provided the filters are clean, I don't see why it would lose suction - but time will tell.

For $149, it's certainly impressed me, and is better than anything else i've seen in that price range.

        Happy with the purchase.

        • the motor on the powerpro started sounding different so i knew something was going on… Hopefully this one will prove to be better!

  • how does it go picking up dust within the carpets?
Had a electrolux and the power head broke down twice…would not recommend electrolux!!!

    • If you want something that just works for a very long time and wont fail… go Miele :-)
I tried one of these Vax specials in a GF store (2285) today and it was woeful… almost zero suction.
I wonder if they had it tricked up so they can use it to upsell?? He did quickly lead me to another brand…

      • i walked in and said i wanted one. he insisted i try it, and so i did, and yes - suction/performance was poor. having heard a lot about Godfreys sales tactics, i felt it might have been"doctored". that many reviews can't be wrong! plus i figured I'd return it if it was crap.

he tried convincing me to buy another one, and even as i left the store he was saying "get the other one next time, you won't regret it etc"

after bringing it home and trying it, I'm convinced it was doctored. works brilliantly at home!

  • +1

seems to be picking up dust really well.

Did a room three times, first time picked up a fair bit, second time picked up a bit less than a quarter of the first time, third time picked up very little.

Room hadn't been vacuumed in a few weeks

    • Thanks for the review great to know it does pet hair well my cats and dogs shed like mad in winter as they are always inside

Super happy here too too bad it's discontinued stock great once in a lifetime bargain as they are clearing stock hope something better comes along in a few years for the same price

  • Rang Everton Park and Strathpine QLD, both confirmed they did not have any in stock. Finally got one at Chermside branch. They said that is the last one they have. BTW, the price on their website has gone back to $499 this morning.

  • Seems to be gone. Price is back to 499.

    • Rang couple of stores in VIC they are all gone.

      • Ascot vale & sunshine still has stock. Try calling the stores nearest to you & checking if they have stock & if its still the same price & get them to hold it for you

  • Hi, Thanks for posting this.
Hopefully it can handle the ridiculous quantities of cat hair that my cats shed!!!!!!

  • Just bought one. Ascot vale & sunshine still have stock & are still selling it for the cheaper price, so if anybody wants to get it, get it asap before the stores changes their price to the same as online price which has gone up.

P.S - stay away from their aggresive sales pitch & lies to try & buy their own range instead

    • Managed to get the last one from Ascot Vale.

No more in Ascot Vale. All cleared. Thanks for the information.

  • Has anyone taken, delivery yet? I'm from Melbourne

  • I rang lot of stores today and got this one from melton store. I also bought bisselle stick vac.

*****Essendon, preston and few other stores are getting these in stock after 12 pm tomorrow as I have been told*****

on a relative note, as others have mentioned, sales rep did try to sell me other stuff but I stuck to this!

    • what ?

  • +2

Received delivery today - good value for money.
Picked up lot of dust from carpets which I thought were clean.
Hope it stays the same on long run.

    • Just curious - had these been cleaned using another vacuum recently?

      • Yes - cleaned them with my old Aldi's lumina vaccum which started to loose suction after 5 years.

  • +3

Arrived today in Adelaide, and She Who Does The Vacuuming loves it.

    Thanks lots, OP.

    • Does she like making sandwiches too? If so you have a keeper =P

  • Mine has yet to arrive =(

  • +2

Money well spent. Picking up so much after a dyson cleaning lol.

    • How's everyone elses going?

      • I picked up mine on Friday after paying over phone before. Tried it and the result was very good. It picked up lots of dust. While finishing the stair case the power head lost it's suction a bit. It had clogged up with many long hair. But it was very easy to disassemble and clean the head and refit again.
        It was $149 well spent.

  • Ours arrived, OH is going through "educational paperwork".

  • Arrived today,. Excellent,. Much better then my old Dyson (12 yo). Only concenr is having to clean the filters every wash! Dyson was every 6 months.

  • How do you get the vacuum to swivel forward and back? I'm twisting the handle but can't seem to get it to work.

    • +2
    • +2

Swivel back and forwards? Do you mean get it leaning back. Put your foot on it and pull back.

      • Cool thanks guys. yeah i noticed it was a bit stiff and didnt want to pull it back in case i broke it. It does still make a loud noise when leaning it back though i hope it will survive wear and tear!

        • +1

Yes same, but I risked it. :-)

        • I had the same problem and didn't want to break it on the first day by forcing it. I read the manual and nothing was mentioned about any lock or the way to do that. So I took it to Godfreys close to home and asked from them. I was laughing at my self all the way back. :D

  • -1

Got mine two days ago and i gotta admit Im a bit dissapointed in the build quality. Seems like cheap crap but vacuums ok. definatley nothing special and not nworth a cent more than the $149. Go with better brands.

    • the cheap materials was probably to keep weight down?

    • +1

Based on the reviews, the 3 year warranty and the performance, I am more than happy with the product. Super bargain compared to the dysons in particular.

    • +1

Vax is a huge brand when it comes to vacuums… What do you mean by better brands?

Also in terms of cleaning performance, what are you comparing this to? It obviously won't perform to the levels of a $1500+ Kirby etc. but it certainly outperforms most Dyson's i've seen.

    • For the price I spent the material and the suction it has is well worth it.

I don't want a vacuum to be made in precious material just to make it heavier. As long as it can with stand the wear and tear and does the job that's it.

I was already tired of carrying a heavy vacuum around the house for couple of years. I am very happy with this one.

  • How are people finding their Vax? Overall it is pretty good. It has a pretty strong suction and is picking up heaps off the carpet. One drawback is that it is kinda heavy and hard to push around. I am taking over the vacuum duties at home now, the vacuum cleaner is much too hard for my mum to use.

  • How does this compare to the Henry vacuums ?
