Misleading terms and conditions, they can get in trouble for this.. they also quote the following..

"Get a quote and we’ll send you a 32GB Toshiba USB drive, obligation free!"

      • +4

I think you'll find they have made a simple mistake here… from how I read the T&C, the purchase is necessary to be in the running for the Singapore trip. The 32GB USB only requires the quote. They should have been clearer and numbered things better.

    • -6

and purchased and taken delivery of 5 or more of Tecra/Portege Notebook computers

      • +2

To enter into the draw to win tickets to the Singapore Grand Prix. The USB is obligation free
        Although it's probably expired

    • +2

It does say: "Get a quote and we’ll send you a 32GB Toshiba USB drive, obligation free! 350 available! Act now!"…Obligation free obviously means no purchase necessary so I wonder if the second term you posted is referring to the need to buy notebooks in order to qualify for entry into the draw for a holiday.

    • +1

Above the T&C link it states:
"Invest in 5 or more Tecra and Portégé machines before June 30 and you’ll get the opportunity to test your skills and win a trip for two to the 2014 Singapore Grand Prix! To get started, get a quote and we’ll send you your free USB drive."

So maybe point 2 only applies to enter the draw for the major prize, not for the USB drive.

      Beaten to the punch.

I submitted for a quote. From the terms and conditions, it seems like until you buy a notebook within the promotion dates you will not get any free USB.

  • I guess someone will give you a ring to buy one lappy. But never hurt to request for a free sticky!

depends on the prices and how persuasive their selling department is.

I'm seriously in the market, but it will depend on the price.

Only 350 available, over 500 clicks.
Not much chance of anyone else getting one now.

What makes you think the 350 people that clicked actually filled out the form?

      • +3

        Ozb

        • +3

Ozb filled the form out twice

      • +1

What makes you think the 350 people that clicked actually filled out the form?

Something for FREE, and not an overly intrusive or long form to claim it. I would expect a high take up rate.

There was over 500 clicks when I posted.

If less than half those OzB people who clicked through had actually filled in the form that would have left only 100 USB's, allowing for some others that might have filled in the form that didn't find it through OzBargain and those that got multiple quotes under different addresses there was clearly not going to be much left.

That and the fact that people were already beginning to report server difficulties on submission.

        Over 3000 clicks now.

  • you need to buy a notebook to get free USB.
    pls add to post

  • mine wont even submit - just keeps loading the three little red bars under the form :(

  • at least they spelt "Organisation" correctly

"Hello. What is the difference between this laptop, and a train, which I could also afford?"

"Well Count Helmutiffe, the laptop chassis…"

    <swipe> "Sucker!"

BTW I hope Toshiba USB keys are very different to their computers because their laptops are horrible. Even the business grade ones are junk compared to the better Dells, HPs and Lenovos.

    • +2

Dell is good quality? My vostro isn't.

      • +1

Vostro is the poor man's business laptop. Even their cheaper latitude 5xxx series have high failure rates.

Their Latitude 6xxx, 7xxx series last quite well, but you do pay a premium for the product and support.

        • Not mine, I've had three they last about a year on average for me, I currently have a 6 month old Lattitude 6xxx, the N key fell off last week, i use a separate keyboard over 90% of the time.

I've had far better mileage out of Toshiba Tecra's. That said, things may have changed, the last Toshiba I had was 4 years ago.
          .

    • +4

Disagree violently re Toshiba lappies. I've had three in ten years, I still have all three, they all still work like new and not one problem on any machine in those ten years. The last one has been around the world ten times, in all climates, the carry bag has come to grief (dropped, fallen, sat on) in the airport many times and still the thing chugs on. The middle one of the three, a Tecra A2 Pentium M Centrino, is still a fast browser even though it's almost ten years old!! Toshiba rocks for me ….. :-)!!

    • 'BTW I hope Toshiba USB keys are very different to their computers because their laptops are horrible. Even the business grade ones are junk compared to the better Dells, HPs and Lenovos.'

How many actual Toshiba laptops have you used?

      • About a half dozen over the last 10 years or so. Satellite Pro and Portege mainly. Never had one I actually liked to use, there was always some hardware niggle or thing that broke off, or weird hardware inside with poor driver support, etc.

Latest experience was recent Portege Ultrabook (can't recall the model number, Z9-something I think) that had a serious fan/fan-controller issue that was never resolved, and it was equipped with a piss poor mSATA SSD that had a peak write speed of 50MB/sec.

They also don't feel as solidly made as other business notebooks, and long term ownership factors like service documentation, and parts availability from third parties is poor compared to Dell Latitude/HP Elitebook/Lenovo T/X series.

        • Aren't satellites the cheapo harvey normnan quality ones? They don't compare to the Tecra's.

        • Well you have had a really bad run or your work may be buying refurbished equipment, as you can see from other comments more people have experienced good reliability with Toshiba laptops. As for HP Elitebook I have seen a few of these units scream all day long embarrassing the person using them, reading more you would find issues of serious heat being generated by those models.

The few that I had to exchange were for dead pixels and nothing more than that.

    • I have owned 3 Toshiba Laptops. All 3 have been the most reliable I have ever owned.

  • Im not sure most of you will get the freebie!! as per instuctions

    1. One USB/quote per company from an authorised person within the company to purchase

  • Oh, I just entered my old expired mobile number, I reckon they won't have a chance to contact hence no free flash drive for me?

Thank you for your interest in requesting a quote from us.

Unfortunately we have exhausted our 350 submission limit and will no longer be taking requests.
    (we have been ozbargained)

  • +1

This'll be a big failed campaign for them. All they'll get will be the OZB crowd looking for the freebie.

  • +1

waiting for that phone to ring……

    • ring?…. did someone say free ring?

  • Maybe 50% of ozbargainers here actually want to buy other products, can't assume all are like that.

  • I submitted a quote request…and I am looking for a laptop for the partner…I have no problems with Toshiba but certainly wont touch HP/Compaq again

  • Still seems working??

  • I got the email confirmation and I see what happens next

  • +1

    I put a fake business and mobile number… I guess I won't be getting my 'free' USB…

  • I got no email confirmation :(

  • I got a call from Toshiba today. I actually am wanting to purchase a new laptop before EOFY, and was trawling OZB for laptop deals when I saw this. Poor sales guy sounded a bit fed up and was surprised I was actually interested. He said that the quote was only for 5 or more units, and they wouldn't quote if I wanted less than that. I had already said I only wanted 1 unit, so he said they were unable to quote.

  • Yep got a call too. They said it was for companies only. Hence no quote and no USB. Toshiba, this is dreadful. Get your act together.

  • Got a quote number but no call.

  • Got a call too late, already bought. no USB.

  • +1

Hi guys, letting you all know that two months to the day, I received a 32GB USB2 drive from Toshiba.

With it was a small A5 sheet with a note stating (among other things); You got the quote, so here's your FREE USB.

Model of the device is; PA5003A-1MBR

I received an initial call with a promise of a call-back from a sales person, which never occurred.

  • Got my 32GB Flash Drive in the mail just now :D

    Surprised it came.

I got the same little leaflet as above.

Also no call back after the initial call.
