      • Not referring to the 3 incl. in the SL bundle box. Did you get an additional pack of 3 figures in a retail packaging?

      • I am wondering this too. Did you get 3 or 6 figures in total?

        • I only got 3. Now I feel ripped off

    • They only add the extra pack if you buy it on the 26th

      • Will they even have stock on the 26th??? Every BigW around me are sold out.

  • Rang my BigW store,
They have stock but wont sell me one until june 26th.
    any ideas?

what is this EB deal going on?

  • +2

Oh, CRS has hit the nail on the head - I didn't realise there's an additional 3-pack on top of the bundle box if we buy on the 26th.

    So…
    a) Return it to BigW now and TRY to HOPE to get one on the 26th (but most likely fail)…
    b) Return it to BigW now and TRY to HOPE to get the KMART one (but most likely fail)…
    c) Shut up and be happy… console myself and my kids by buying MK8 for $58 and redeem the free game…

    Or how about…
    d) Try buy on the 26th, if successful keep the original bundle + new Skylander triple pack, return the new boxed basic bundle… Think this would work? Their returns policy suggests it'd be fine…

    • Unless you REALLY want to start playing this weekend, there's no harm in trying Big W or Kmart on the 26th and returning the one you have now if you're successful. According to their policy:

      Have you changed your mind?

If you have changed your mind, as long as:

      You have clear proof of purchase, typically a receipt;
      The product and packaging is in its original condition including manuals and accessories;
The item is in re-saleable condition for example original tags and labels are still attached, unworn, unopened or unused and
      The product is not on the Product Exclusion List (please see below);

BIG W will provide you with a refund in the form of the previous method of payment, or a BIG W Returns Card – at your option.

      Please Note:

      All Big W Online “change of mind” returns are limited to 30 days from time of delivery;

  • A bit annoying about not getting the bonus characters but I reckon not worth the risk of missing out unless ur desperate for them

    • Go back to the store.

The clerks are supposed to check if any bundle comes with a "bonus" by pressing a few buttons on the monitor.

They are then supposed to write "+ Bonus" on the receipt as proof you got the bonus.

As your receipt won't have this notation, have a chat with the clerk or manager. They should be happy to help you.

I guess if you're not a big skylanders fan, the resale value is probably around $18. It's not huge but if your BigW is close by might be worth a visit.

Edit: Whoops, not sure if you bought one from BigW. Many in the BigW post have said that they bought in store and received the bonus figures

  • -1

In the image on their site it has (top left corner) included nintendoland game, does anyone know if this is true?

    • Yes, it comes with Nintendo land

      • +1

In the picture of standalone nintendo land, is nintendo land included?

        howmanytimescanitbeasked

  • just called my local and said they will put on hold fingers crossed

  • +1

I brought 1 @ Bigw Southland for 188 after 5% staff discount + i used wish gift card from racv so it comes down to pretty much the same price as Kmart. It comes with skylanders and 3 figures plus bonus nintendo land inside the box. The staff told me they have more than 20 boxes at the back. I would say buy it at Bigw now if there is stock rather wait until 26 for the Kmart deal and avoid disappointment. :)

    • What the heck? Called this morning and they said no more stock! Big W southland.

  • Is this just for a pre-order placement? I don't understand why i can't buy Mario Kart 8, DKTF and Mario 3D World?

    • +1

I think it depends on who you're dealing with at the store. I went into Big W South Yarra to purchase MK8 on the hope that by scanning my Everyday Rewards card, the price would automatically scan at $58 as per the catalogue. This didn't happen but the guy overrode the price for me anyway :)

  • Does any of the old Wii accessories (sensor, controllers) works with the new Wii U?

    • Yes and yes.

  • +3

Most of you probably also bought mario kart 8 so i've made an ozbargain tournament group

  • Is there a difference between the skylanders bundle and the skylanders LIMITED EDITION bundle? Or are they all limited edition?

    • +1

      they're all limited edition

  • Typically, I've got a massive day at work on 26th so getting away from the office, or diverting to K-Mart before work is probably not going to eventuate.

Anyone have any insight as to whether this deal be available at all through their website, or an in-store deal only?

    What's a fella to do?!

    • It's in stores only, not online and I'm the same. I will check the shop before 9 pm on 25th in case they topped up the shelves and updated the prices the night before! Just hoping really.

  • A word of warning, if you are purchasing Mario Kart 8 separately you may want to check the promo card is in the package before you leave.

Bought ours from Target and all the promo cards had been stolen. A little silly they were leaving the cards on the shelves where everyone can access them.

    • Lmao… Imagine getting like 8 …. All wii u top games for free lol

    • Not surprised by this with the amount of codes that people have been selling on eBay.

    • Same with Big W.

The cards were still there, but there's no way to know if someone didn't snap a photo of it with their phone or write down the code.

It really sucks that Nintendo doesn't shrink wrap their games.

  • it appears target is also doing the bundle for 179 from thursday

    • Can you please display some proof, I am just interested, thank u :D

    • Where have you found this info? - My Target store knows nothing about it and next weeks catalogue isn't online as of yet - I'd be keen to see if they will put one aside for me until Thurs for this price.

    • In the target catalog I got today, it says the bundle is $189

      • I asked at the counter RE: this deal at Target - When she opened the page the $189 was crossed out in pen and $178 written beside it. The bundle didn't scan at that price today though. I'm wondering if Target will throw in the additional 3 pack to match Big W?

  • +1

heads up, if you live around Keysbrough (parkmore shopping centre), it is out of stock at Big W, Kmart and EBGames

  • Why are no other stores stocking any wii basic packs anymore? Is it because they don't want to price match or because the white wii u is being sold down and discontinued by Nintendo in favour of carrying just one model?

The black control pad looks better IMO but if I can score a pack at $179 this week is probably grab it so I can play some old favourites as they release.

    • +1

It feels like it might be because they don't want to price match the 'run out' of the Skylanders pack. I work for 'another retailer' (in the head office) and I had a look in the system and saw tons of Wii U basics in the system but none to be seen in the couple of stores I have been in

  • Burwood VIC has around 8 of them, however they said they won't be selling them until Thursday.
Some stores will sell you one before the date, but it will be at their usual price of $199.

What I did was buy it at $199 then when the new catalog comes out, claim price protection via credit card.

Just need to locate a place which has stock and willing to sell it to you before the catalog.

  • Target have same console for $189 from This Thursday if you don't have a Kmart nearby

    • my understanding was 179, same as special K

      • Nah in next weeks catalogue it says $189

    • Soz my son negged you by accident.

  • Hey guys, would it be better to wait till christmas for their deals or is EOFYS better than christmas generally?
I never paid much attention to wii U sales/sales in general till now.
Thinking of whether I should wait till christmas for the smash bros bundle
or get wii U now if it'll be cheaper.

    • +3

Wii-U Basic SL bundles are being discontinued & cleared out as new one is being released in a few months (hence the recent deals).

It will definitely be cheaper if you want one now, just depends on whether you are interested in any of the current games available. Also you get the free game now with MK8 & no guarantee this promo will be repeated when the SSB-U bundles come along.

The deals at christmas & boxing day will be based on Wii-U Premium Black. I think they'll be anywhere from ~$280-$350.

    • +1

It really depends if you want it now.
Buy it now, pick up Mario Kart 8 with the free game and enjoy.
No one can say for sure if there is a free game redemption offer with Smash Bros.

      • +1

It good to speculate that they will do the offer again (due to the overwhelming reception this time), but with different games to choose from. Their mission was to drive sales & get ppl owning Wii-U's long term.

    • Ty for the replies ^_^

      Will think about it overnight.

90% chance of getting it at this point.
Didn't know about the mario kart 8 promotion ty.

      • Me neither - what's the deal regarding the free game - is there a coupon in the box or something? Apols if its written everywhere in this thread - must have missed that bit of the discussion! The console, plus MK8 at that price is great - especially given I would sell Skylanders given we have this on other platforms at home already.

        • You use the club nintendo code that comes with the game on the club nintendo website. It then gives you a code you need to redeem on the Wii U.

        • The Club Nintendo comes with which game - Skylanders?

        • +2

The one that comes with Mario Kart. Mario Kart isn't free, you need to buy it separately then you get another free game with it.

        • Should also be noted that it is a digital game and a basic Wii U will only have ~3gb of useable space. So will either have to choose one of the 2? games that will fit or buy an external hdd to use.

  • Annoying how Nintendo made updates compulsory and automatic as soon as you log onto the internet with the Wii U.

    • This was done to try and curb the rampant piracy on their systems; both the Wii and the Nintendo DS are two of the most easily pirated consoles.

    • Do they have an ethernet port? Just unplug it when you aren't going online.

  • +1

Just picked mine up - they didnt have it on the shelves but got one for me from out back and it scanned at $179.

I'll be in trouble when I get home.

    • Which Store ?

      • Notice how this guy never replied with further details.

        • +1

          Because he is in trouble

  • I went to Big W today and they said their special is for Thursday only and they wouldn't sell it to me today. Well done on those getting the deal today.

  • killing me that i got one already but am trying not to play until exams are over.

  • All stores are selling it at $179, as they have already changed their systems.
However not all stores will sell it to you. I have called quite a few Victorian stores, only 1 of them said they will sell earlier.

All the others refused, or agreed to sell it, then called me back saying they cannot sell it. Must have been told off by their manager. lol.

    • Which store said they will sell it early?

      • I already bought it from the store, they ran out already.
Pretty much all of the stores I called only had like 2-3 in stock but refused to sell it early.

ALOT of people will be disappointed.

        • Yeah they really bungled this up, I wonder if there was a collapse within communications from the higher ups to the store clerks and just how country wide it's been.
I actually just bought the last one today at my local Kmart. Apparently when I asked the clerk if they were a popular item she told me that they had being selling them at this price since Saturday. She told me she hadn't even seen the new catalogue. Come Thursday there's bound to be a few pissed off bargain hunters.
I'm afraid I can't tell people which store though, it might get that particular clerk in trouble with management and I don't want that to happen after she kindly still sold it to me even after I told her the sale wasn't supposed to start till Thursday.

        • Strange, as the computers still displayed $199 at Kmart on Sunday.
It only started displaying $179 today (Monday).

I bought mine for $199 on Sunday, just gonna price protection it with my credit card. lol.

  • Bought the Skylanders bundle today at Big W for $198

Unfortunately can't play until exams are over but was wondering if I could take it back to Big W on Thursday, return it, and repurchase it for $179 by price matching?

Btw anyone had any luck with getting the extra 3 Skylanders figurines?

    • +1

"take it back to Big W on Thursday, return it, and repurchase it for $179 by price matching?"

You should try, but you might have to leave your dignity at the front door on your way in.

Then come back and post here if they did. At least that way the rest of us misers will know what kind of chance we stand.

      *I'm one of those misers.

      • +2

It does sound a little undignified reading it again haha

Anyway, I have no self control and ended up opening it before my exams ended anyway but if anyone else managed, I'd love to know!

    • Or just take it back and buy from Kmart?

      • Thats if there is stock. Kmart is pretty low in stock. You are looking at 0-10 units at each store, quite a few stores are out of them.

So you cannot really pricematch them since Kmart needs to be in stock to be able to price match.

    • The Big W one is different though, since it comes with 3 extra figures? It won't be a 1:1 item for price matching.

  • +3

How can a "major chain" justify putting any item in their catalogue - especially when it's a popular product and a very competitive price - that only exists in quantities less than 10 units per store?

That's a bargain bit item at those numbers, not a catalogue line item…

Those who miss out should lodge a formal complaint as it's misleading.

    • Not really misleading. It doesn't say anything in the catalog about how many there will be on sale. It also mentions "While stock lasts".

I think they got their butts covered pretty well.

      • +1

Of course they do but still isn't a good look. For a small standalone store, you'd expect them to carry limited units of something like this. For a chain store with the purchasing power of KMart - and however many thousand customers per day passing in and out - 10 Wii U's isn't exactly going to go very far!

But, as you say, I'm sure it's legally airtight!

        • +1

I agree it definitely isn't a good look. I called all the Kmarts around me and none of them had any stock at all.

"Bait advertising takes place when an advertisement promotes certain (usually ‘sale’ prices) on products that are not available or available only in very limited quantities. It is not misleading if the business is upfront in a highly visible, clear and specific manner about the particular product ‘on sale’ being in short supply or on sale for a limited time." - from the ACCC

Not sure if the catalogue or ts&cs say anything directly about limited stock but if so, not much you can do unfortuntely

        • +3

I won't be able to get into a store on Thurs so I'm not that concerned for me - I know I'm not going to be able to get stock at 8pm at any store. I'm mainly thinking about others.

My point is that if stock is that limited in a high volume store it shouldn't be allowed to be advertised in a catalogue that probably has a print run of 500,000 and a reach of several million online.

I'm basing my comments completely on heresay and anecdotes written in this thread by others OZBs, but some are reporting that select stores have no stock left already (or perhaps never did) and it's not even Thurs yet!

          Cheers.

        • Reminds me of the bad ole days of the Doorbuster sales (trampled limbs and all hilarity)

      • According to ACCC it is illegal: http://www.accc.gov.au/business/advertising-promoting-your-b…

        "Bait advertising

Bait advertising is the illegal practice of advertising specific prices (usually special ‘sale’ prices) on goods that are not available or are available only in very limited quantities (where this limit is not clearly and specifically disclosed).

You should only offer goods or services at a ‘special price’ if they are available in reasonable quantities for a reasonable period, unless you state clearly that the good is in short supply or on sale for a limited time."

        • Nothing on that page is actually a "special price", because they've changed them to an "everyday" low price since Monday. Note the lack of save $X.

  • +1

I just picked it up then : )
Called my nearest Kmart and they said that the price was already 179.
    SA Glynburn Rd.

I assume they have 1+ in stock or so.

    • When I went past yesterday the stock on hand was apparently 15 for Firle, whereas most store had a stock on hand of 5.
I thought Firle was meant to be on reduced stock because of their refit.

And I'm not sure whether that store is getting the 2DS consoles because they don't sell DS/2DS/3DS games anymore.

  • +4

Rang around my local Kmarts and they advised that they hadn't received stock for the catalogue listing yet and to check tomorrow after 12pm when they received stock. So there should be availability for Thursday.

Decided to give JB HI FI a go and they priced matched it and sold it to me on the spot without needing any proof or ringing around! Used some JB vouchers (was my plan to price match at JB for this reason anyway) and pay waved the rest on my ING card for the 5% cashback in true Ozbargain style.

He also knocked off a cheeky $1 for me when I joked about him doing it cheaper :)

    • nicely done

    • LOL. Nice one
edit, which JB did you get it from?

      • Kotara, NSW

        • Tried JB Claremont Quarter wouldn't price match until Kmart sale starts on Thurs and has to be in stock as well. How on earth do they or I know about Kmart stock level unless they ring around on that day.

    • Darth Ozbargainer

  • +3

Just got the skylanders Wii U bundle for $179 at Kmart, Warriewood. Don't know how much stock they have but there is at least one more on display.
This really annoys me that they advertise it to be on sale on the 26th but sell it to anyone who comes in before hand. Ohh well I got mine, just hope everyone else is as lucky as I am.
    Thanks OP.

  • +1

I walked into an almost deserted Kmart at Ocean Keys at around 1800 hours here in WA and bought the $179 deal straight from the glass case. Walked over to the lay-by department and the same guy placed it on (a $3 fee) lay-by. Said he could have held it free for 24 hours but I don't plan to allow my son to play with it till the weekend.

I used my ING 5% discount and pay-waved $90 with another pay-wave friendly still $92 owing.

After the additional ING discount (I could have bought couple of $50 gift cards and saved an additional $3) I would have paid closer to $172 which is fantastic!

Thanks to the OP for the post!

  • apparently there's a lot of stock at Kmart Wynnum

  • Rang around yesterday, both Eastland and Chirnside said they strictly won't be selling before Thursday. They wouldn't give away how much stock they had. Either had been told not to or too lazy to look out the back. Going to go check out Chrinside(kmart and target) today anyway… just in case lol

    • chirnside should have some stock. stock arrived on the monday.

      • I went in today, got told they possible have 7 but to ring back later to check. Just rang back and now they only have 2 but ones on hold. after I got told I can't put the last one on hold. Don't know what to think lol I was going to go in at midnight if they had 7. But not going to bother if there is just 1 left.

edit: forgot to add they said they will be getting more in. but considering all the different stories i've heard today idk how truthful that is

  • Burwood Vic Selling them from last night if you ask

    • Just called, they've sold out and don't know when new stock will come in.

  • I just phoned my local WA store, they are expecting a delivery today, selling for $179, has taken down my details to hold one aside.

    Thank you Kmart :D

    • Nice - can I ask which WA store?

    • +1

just picked it up, no hassles, kids are now sorted for school holiday winter entertainment.
