    Nice find..

Brings the Wii U to another all time low price..

    • White is being phased out.

        • +13

          Dont respond. Its a Trap!

        • +1

Not as quickly as Xbox Executives.

      • -4

It is the black that is being phased out and also the basic white.

      • Not in Japan it's not. The white is selling better there and they are reported to be reducing or phasing out black there!

    • +6

      So it's cheaper than a 3DS XL? That's crazy

  • +11

    Wii U price limbo!

    How low can you go!

  • +6

Damn! Already got the EB deal. Said it once & I'll say it again:- Should have waited… :-(

    • +1

same here, i just bought it yesterday at Big W

      • +1

I knew EOFYS would bring surprises. Me & my impulsive OzB triggerfinger…sigh

      • Buy one and return the Big W one!

        • +1

Good idea. Might actually do that, but with EB. Hmmmm ponders

EB deal (excl $6 express shipping) - MK8
          =$279 - $58
          =$221

EB SL bundle - Kmart SL bundle
          =$221 - $179
=$42 to recover through EB refund

Lose out on $6 for the shipping, but get $42 back in pocket.

          Worth a shot!

edit: On second thought, the BigW deal for $19 more ($198) might be for feasible to resell as it incl. an extra 3 SL figure pack which is alone worth ~$30. If the BigW one goes live online I might grab that instead of gambling on whether Kmart will have stock (not even sure they will have it online).

        • Dont know if you can still get MK8 for $58. That sale might have finished?

        • +2

Big W have it for $58 in their next catalogue. Starts online tonight or in store on the 26th

        • Any idea what time [AEST] it starts tonight?

        • +1

          7pm

        • You can get it at Big W right now. I picked one up yesterday for $198 - just call your store to check stock and price.

        • +1

i think he's talking about Mario Kart 8

        • According to the picture, the Kmart bundle includes the 3 SL figures as well.

        • +2

BigW deal incl. 6 figures total.

        • It only has three.. it's identical to this Kmart one I'm pretty sure.

        • +3

Pretty sure it has 6, going by the photo unless it is misleading.

Can't access the product page atm, but here's the cached page. May be back online at 7pm.

        • I didn't get them :(

I guess they didn't know it was supposed to come with it when I got it or it's exclusive to that sale.

        • Nice.

        • Is it really worth the effort to recover the $42?
I'd cut my losses and enjoy the console.

        • you should of got 6. The starter pack comes with Swap Force Blast Zone and Wash Buckler, and Ninja Stealth Elf. The 3 extra are Big Bang Trigger Happy, Star Strike and Anchors Away Gil Grunt.

        • A staff member at my local Big W showed me their staff catalogue that has item identification numbers/codes (probably has a specific name??)with each pic - Anyway this deal had two codes - she said that it would probably be the SL bundle that comes with 3 in it and then another 3 pack - She seemed to also think it was the first day of the sale only - but wasn't sure.

  • +34

If it makes you guys feel any better, I paid $200 more than this for the Premium one a few weeks back…

I have failed as an OzBargainer :(
Perhaps I should just give all this up and go join the Night's Watch

    • +19

And now his bargaining is ended.

  • +8

Wow this prize is crazy! Wii u is an amazing console and after the super E3 nintendo had, the mario kart deal and zelda smash etc coming up there is zero reason any gamer should not pick this up!

    • +2

      I used to be the only guy going "WII-U IS AMAZING BECAUSE OF WONDERFUL 101", and now I'm the only one going "NINTENDO'S E3 WAS AMAZING BECAUSE OF SPLATOON" ;_;

      • +2

        Splatoon looks amazing and fun

      • +1

Re Splatoon: you will find yourself in good company on a certain anonymous videogame imageboard.

      • +1

Splatoon looks great! Smash looks amazing. New Zelda looks amazing. Some fun is oncoming for Wii U owners :D

    • Gonna pick up a Wii-U at christmas with the smash bundle (inevitable).
      Gonna be good :D

      • +1

Of course it is, Kirby! You're in it!

  • +1

$100 is my buy in point. I only want Zelda.

    • +6

Sell both SL w/ figures + Nintendoland & you have yourself a $100 Wii-U ready to start collecting dust until Zelda-U arrives. :P

    • dont know why this was negged, nothing wrong with your comment I feel the same but also want mario kart 8, but I think its only a matter of time until we get close to that price point.

      • +3

Your name is slippy. Surely you are excited that a star fox game has been announced :p

        • +1

They're totally going to get Retro to do it. They're TOTALLY going to get retro to do it! Best situation possible is the best situation possible and I called it!

But u srs bruh, only want Zelda for the Wii-U? Did you forget about all dem exclusives? Did you forget about the GAMES? I know it might be challenging for you to remember how to have fun in this gritty, bleak age of modern shooters and a slew of game-a-year parkour-simulators that we live in but plz try.

    • Me too, but i want MK8 too

    • +1

They will never sell the console for $100, without a rebate/cashback. They will at best keep it at $200 but pack more things in.

  • +1

I went to a lot of kmart stores in victoria when the target offer was on and they were all willing to match the $269 offer but just didnt have any stock. Unless they're shipping them out to stores for this catalogue, i think it will be difficult to find one to purchase.

    • they're probably going to send more stock to stores before the sale. Big W seems to be doing the same

    • Target have their own deal coming-out.
      26 June - 2 July
      $189 for this pack.
50% of all skylander multi packs & single figures.
Looking in-store, these ^ have been 50% off for almost a week now (already).

All sorts of bonkers deals at Target lately - Not sure about BigW K-Mart etc.

Frankston Victoria Target has 10% of ANY item (can't be combined with other offers) at the moment, probably since they're suffering a little bit of loss with construction going on. $4m Prototype store upgrade.

  • So its true that they discontinued/stopped manufacturing the Wii-U Basic white console entirely & not just this SL bundle in favour of focusing pushing the Premium black (which explains the sharp pricedrops)?

  • Apparently 3GB of storage is usable on the basic WiiU. Mario bros U is 1.7 gigs if you choose to download it by redeeming Mario kart 8.

Nintendo recommends external storage. It'll be great if you have a spare USB lying around:)

    • +2

Some of those digital games are huge though… Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is 7gb, while The Wonderful 101 is 12gb! Seems like an external hard drive is a must!

      • +3

the only games that fit are NSMBU and Wind Waker

        • +4

I love the Wii U, but I would really like to punch the guy in the face that decided that 3GB of usable storage space was an OK idea.

      • +1

no one in the right mind buys digital.

        • +4

          I prefer digital downloads..

        • +1

          you're getting ripped off tbh.

        • +3

It's cheaper, you get it instantly and you wont lose or scratch it - it's forever yours in as new condition. It's my preference over disks.

        • +4

Some ppl like the 'feel' of owning/collecting a physical item, but everything is transitioning to digital & soon gamecases+disks will be a thing in the past. Its all about whether you value aesthetics.

Too bad the game can't be copied onto the system (ext. hdd) & played, therefore keeping the disk new.

        • +1

Unless I am mistaken, one of the big problems with digital downloads on Wii U is that there are potential issues with your account and the hardware being linked. If your hardware is borked or you want to sell it, it can cause a few issues.

          Happy to be corrected.

        • That's the case for Nintendo's previous iterations of a store or an account (for example, my 3DS copy of Phoenix Dual Destinies depends on my ability to take care of my 3DS) but those problems are…… MOSTLY corrected with Nintendo Network.

        • +2

          It's definitely not cheaper.

        • +2

How is it cheaper at all?

        • The only thing that turns me off digital games is they have no value once bought. You can't sell it in the future unless you sell your entire account or console. Physical games still hold monetary value for as long as you own it.

        • +1

Selling 10 physical games will net you a bigger profit than 'selling steam account 10 digital games' after all.

        • @Callison
You've been very strong in your opinion.
I'm curious to see some examples.

        • +2

Digital all the way for PC (mostly due to them being significantly cheaper), hard copies all the way for consoles (generally cheaper, hold more value, generally nicer to have).

        • "it's cheaper" ??? Sure on PC with Steam/Origin sales but on consoles the games in the digital stores are often the launch RRP years after release while they are less than half that price in the stores.

    • Nintendo advises against using a USB stick to download games to. They say it reduces the lifespan of the USB stick. I'm not sure if they are exaggerrating or if it really will reduce it's lifespan. Those things have limited write cycles, but just like SSDs, in practice they will last more than long enough. Anyone able top give a more informed take on this?

      • correct , it does reduce the life span on them. Even leaving the usb connected does. someone it explained it to me a while back. u can prob go reasearch it

        • Significantly, or imperceptibly? They are rated to last a long time. Are they just covering their asses just in case, or is it that big an issue that it will die within a year?

        • would also like to know this answer, will reserach it later tonight when im at work

      • Meh, USB sticks are really cheap these days and you are just storing downloaded products. If your USB stick dies just throw it away and replace it with another and re-download the game. Not like you are storing irreplaceable data.

  • What were they thinking shipping a console with an 8gb and 32gb storage? It feels like 2006 again!

    • And the 8gb only has about 3gig free for any downloads!

    • This is basically the same price as the 2006 consoles are now even after all these years, so it's hard to feel too bad about the storage issues!

    • Even the very first xbox had 8gb of storage lol, the hell Nintendo?

      • I recall reading that by the time the console was being phased out (original Xbox), that the 8GB hard disk was by far and away the single most expensive component in the system since there was no demand for 8GB drives elsewhere else in the market.

In any event, the Wii U supports externals so its not the end of the world. At least the console is small as a result compared to some other consoles.

        • +3

Even when the XBOX launched there was no demand for 8gb HDDs lol

    • +7

Um they did it to save money as anyone can get any external drive and plug it in. Better than being forced to pay extra or having to buy dedicated storage. I think its a smart move

      • +1

External costs more than internal. And it's slower, since it's only USB2. Also only supports self powered drives.

    • +4

The good news is you can just use any USB storage you want to cheaply and easily expand it.

      • Not really. Doing some research in the last week, powered USB hard drives are best. Self powered drives and thumb drives are less than ideal

        • In fact, Nintendo has said that AC portable hard drives are recommended. I have a hard drive with 2 usb connectors though, powering from both the ports in the back of the Wii-U, and this works just fine.

        • +1

I am running a usb powered drive on my Wii U and it works fine.
I just used a split lead cable which should give it enough juice.

        • +1

Cruzer fit usb here… 32 gb from amazon. No difference compared with internal memory for the 2 games im running. Same setup for my old homebrew wii: about 10 games and thumb drives are fine in my experience

    • They were thinking why not give the consumer a choice of whether they want HD storage or not?

Funnily enough, MS have now announced the Xbone will also allow external HD use.

So Nintendo in this case was thinking ahead of the pack.

      • If they gave us a choice, they'd have a sku with a HDD inside it, not 32GB.

Or leave space inside for an internal HDD to plug into, like with PS3.

    • +1

      2006 PS3 launched with 60GB HDD. So it's pre-2006.

    • Hard Drive Disk ≠ Flash Storage

    • They allow external storage so there's really no need to have a big internal HDD.

      • -1

No need, but a great want. Less clutter with fewer cables dangling. One unit instead of a unit with something hanging off it, using up USB ports, and requiring AC power.

Also, internal speeds are faster, since Nintendo went with ancient USB2 ports.

Did I also mention an internal drive is cheaper than an external? It's hard to believe in 2006 you don't have a HDD. If they want to be taken seriously as a digital download console, they need more than 8/32GB.

        • -1

These days unless they ship with user replaceable 3.5" HDDs then no amount of HDD space will be enough, which is why external support is the most logical thing to do.

Look at the PS4 and XB1 - 500GB HDDs yet were having to upgrade within a month. If the internal HDD can't be big enough to even last 12 months, it makes more financial and business sense to just let you add on extra storage at will via external drives.

        • -1

Why do you say that? You can get 1TB on a 2.5" drive. That's plenty. I certainly haven't filled up my 500GB PS4. In any case, 500GB beats 8 or 32GB by a long shot.

If that fills up, you can delete stuff. But the option is there.

Allowing people to add via external is no better an option to adding via internal. It's worse actually because it's more expensive and less elegant. By your argument, putting a 500GB external drive into a console you'll need to upgrade within a month anyway, so you'd have to get another external down the line…

        • -1

Replace a 500gb internal with a 2tb internal and you gained 1.5tb. Add a 2tb external and you gained 2tb. Not to mention you can just unplug that 2tb external and plug in a different 4tb external, or another one, or another one. It's infinitely expanding storage as opposed to being limited by 2.5" small height drive size.

My 500gb XB1s internal drive is nearly full already, but I can quickly and easily add 4tb of storage. Can't do that with internal.

        • Use the 500GB in an enclosure and it doesn't get wasted? When you upgrade pieces of hardware, do you throw the old part in the bin?

Your argument still doesn't change the fact that they could have left an empty drive bay inside the Wii U for internal expansion in a basic model (HDD included in optional premium model). What would THAT have cost you?

Also price difference of 1TB internal drive and 1TB expansion drive is about equivalent to throwing away your 500GB internal drive. Going by RRP values that is. Counting specials is misleading.

And not everyone is like you, filling up a 500GB drive in one month. I would consider you a minority. May I ask what is on it?

By making everyone buy a 500GB external drive (which will either eat up both your USB ports, or require AC power, neither of which an internal drive will do) to get equivalent storage to a PS4, you're basically jacking up the price to almost PS4 levels. US based RRP of a Wii U is $300, PS4 is $400. Add the HDD, and the difference in price is very close, but difference in processing power is huge.

    • 8/32GB is abhorrent - but it also boggles my mind that the the PS4 and One shipped with only 500GB drives.

      • -1

The XB1 has always been going to allow external storage, announced that it will be coming from before the console was released. This means it essentially has unlimited storage space.

The PS4 on the other hand is currently limited by the 2.5" drives of a specific height, which means you can currently only have 1TB.

        • +1

There are 1.5TB and 2TB models that fit just fine in a PS4.

        • The point remains though - you are severely limited in storage space options. Right now I could have 100tb of storage for my XB1 if I wanted to. Bit more than 2TB ;)
