At 20c per kwH these will pay for themselves after 240 hours.
What's the lumens of these compared to standard 50W halogens?

Bunnings has 10 for $10 of their 35w globes, for reference.

50w Halogens are generally 20-30% brighter than the 35w versions. When looking at a very cheap way to reduce power consumption, this is certainly a good option. Naturally there is a trade off between brightness and power consumption especially when dealing at 72c a globe. There is no question investing in LED's is the way forward, however for those not quite ready to outlay the capital, this makes a lot of sense.

    • probably closer to 100 hours

Rogue Lighting? Always amazes me how some companies give themselves or their products negative sounding names.

Gravy was ambushed and stunlocked to death and we never heard from him again.

Just twist off the existing 50W and attach the new 35W globes

These are MR16's, so you don't twist them off.

    • Correct. Copy amended. Thanks.

out of topic.. but dirty tactics by ledified.. door knocking and telling people how the government has "banned" the sales of halogen downlights and its now illegal to have them.. I raised this with a rep who did put it straight that it was the importation of incandescent globes including 50w halogen globes that was phased out. He apologize said they'll address that with staff training.

  • do you have led bulbs old model round with pin type b22.

  • You may save in the purchase cost with these but if you do the sums for energy cost and hr lifetime comparing them to LED down lights. The LED down lights then look like the real bargain!

    • Return on investment with LED can take quite a long time depending on your usage. Especially true if you have to replace the 12v transformers as well and need to get a sparky to fit them.

You also have to consider how long you intend to stay in your current home. There is of course the environmental savings but if its purely monetary savings you are looking at then it is worth checking out how long it takes to break even on investment.

Great idea! Replace inefficient incandescent lamps with dimmer inefficient incandescent lamps.

If you must have mr16 downlights, or are stuck with them, at least consider replacing them with LEDs.
