  • Does this offer and other offers e.g.1 2 work with all Amex card including The Qantas American Express Discovery Card? I do not have one but like to be no fee card.

      Baggage Trolleys at Sydney Airport

If you are departing via Sydney and need a trolley, make sure you have some change. Baggage trolleys will cost you A$4 per trolley (coins only). The hire stalls are located on the ground floor outside, before entering the terminal.

For passengers arriving into Sydney, trolleys are located in the baggage reclaim hall following Customs processing, and are free of charge.

Does this work for Bank issued AMEX cards?. It doesn't appear to be in the exclusion, but not sure if it falls under some other categories

  • Does this mean that we only get ONE free trolley hire?

"*Until 31 December 2014, receive a complimentary trolley when you swipe your American Express Card"

    • -3

      not free, 'complimentary'…

      • +7

Is american express giving away any "complimentary" English courses for JV ?

        • +2

No, you've got it all wrong, when you swipe your amex, the trolley tells you how much it likes your shirt

  • +6

Anyone want to hang out with me at the International Terminal for a few hours and push around our free trolley?

    • +2

      The OzBargain Kart racing tournament.

  • +3

I was just at the International Airport last 2 Saturdays in a row sending family off and the trolleys were free at the car park. They were all nicely lined up and were not attached to the coin machines.

  • -5

Weird, are these a different kind of trolley? I go overseas every two months and they have always been free, in arrivals and departures?

  • +13

Is Australia the only country that passengers have to pay for trolleys at airports ?

    • +2

First i've seen or heard of in my travels. pretty ridiculous.

    • +2

Yea it is. It's a joke - Sydney - one of the worst cities for rorting people.

    • +5

No. You need to pay in the USA (LAX and BOS I know you do, as i've been forced to pay in the past recent months). Tip: go out to the kerbside and look, people leave them there, and you can often just grab one before your bags go around the carousel.

They are free in SYD arrivals in T1, but not departures. You have to cough up there. Smarte Carte have a virtual monopoly world wide on these things, and most places they're pushing $5 a use now!

    • Agree with drewbles. Not just there, but it's pretty common to have charges for trolley hire outside the terminal; I'd say more common than not.

      • +1

Nice deal but also think its a rip that the trolleys are charged for in Australia

  • +2

I've never been anywhere that charges money to use trolleys at an airport. Wtf Sydney?

    • Looks like you have not been around much.

  • Trolleys are free at international.
They are $4 at the domestic terminals

    • -3

I think the OP should update his post then lol

Perfect place to install a skimming device.

      • Why are you loling?

    • +4

Trolley is not free at International departure, but you can collect them for free at car park or inside the terminal though. I still reckon it's a rip off to charge $4 to use the trolley.

    • not free at international

  • +2

Don't need a trolley as I travel with a carry on only, but my Ozbargain state of mind says I'm going to get one anyway ;)

  • +5

Free card skimming at Sydney airport!

    • would love to have my card skimmed at the airport because it would mean my duty free is free. ;)

  • +1

If you have a van or truck, take the trolley home with you as a memento of your travels

  • +1

Real OzBargainers don't use a trolly. We just walk our stuff there.

  • Good luck with that!

3 of my amex cards from different banks don't work with the (2 different) machines.

  • There are free trollyes at Adelaide airport too

    • not free, 'complimentary'…

Sorry.. I thought I was JV then..

      • +2

Impersonating jv requires a certain style, and a dose of sarcasm, a direct quote is not enough

  • +1

At airports, I usually look around and find spare spare trolleys easily without paying.

  • What a shame they charge for using a trolley.

  • Wow I didn't realise you need to pay for trolleys at Int'l departures. Like others have said, plenty of free trolleys in the car park

  • +1

Are you kidding me, this country is out of control. It goes to show you were greed gets you.
Im sure many airports around the world offer free trolleys. Another scam from the system. Paying for a trolley unbelievable!!

This should be posted to show how messed up Australia is.

    • So.. Should this be engaged than based on the fact that a Sherpa in Tibet is cheaper?

  • if at the departure terminal (not the carpark), True Ozbargainers will just get one of the friends or relatives to watch your stuff, go inside and grab one that are left by other people who might have paid to get that trolley

  • +1

Definitely pay at LAX. Last time we were there we got our kids to grab an extra one than we paid for (for an extra bag) and the man who was collecting them went off. Thought it was a bit unfair as we were travelling with 4 kids so had heaps of bags but his job was to grab the trolleys as soon as people left them and put them back so people would have to pay again. He was doing it well lol.

  • was about to post that it's ridiculous that we have to pay for trolley but see that many have beaten me to it…
