Any tips on accessing their site. It always takes ages for me to load… Compared to other sites

Call them up and inform their friendly and responsive staff that their website isn't the most user-friendly. They'll take action right away.

    • Just as an FYI, the deal is yet to start in 3 days. Current store price is $85 for the 128GB

It's a nightmare trying to get onto their website. Here's the quickest way I found:
      1. Go to MSY's homepage www.msy.com.au
      2. Click on the "View stock level (without login)" icon
      3. A new browser tab will open. Click on the store you want to purchase from.
      4. Wait for page to reload. Now use the search field (top right corner) to find what you are looking for.
      5. Close other tab, it's now useless.

  • God Dam it I just got home from buying the $50 64gb SSD :/

  • Just noticed there's a large disparity in the write performance between the two - 290MB/s vs 445MB/s. The 256GB is definitely better value.

  • SanDisk Ultra Plus 256GB or Samsung 840 Pro 256GB….

If purchasing one of these, might be a good idea to activate the "price drop insurance" feature of your 28 degrees card. However,
    - at MSY you'll be paying 2% extra for the privelege of using a credit card
    - you can only claim if the price drops by at least $10 within the six months after purchase
    - you will be paying a premium of 0.5% of the closing balance of your cedit card, EVERY MONTH, until you cancel the price protection.

BUT, you can almost always avoid the 0.5% premium by noting which day your statement is created, and go online and pay off the full balance a day or two before that. You can still get caught if a purchase gets credited after you have paid, but just before the statement is created, but then you only get hit with 0.5% of that purchase value.

Or maybe use the 28 degrees card only for things which need price drop insurance, pay it off the day before the statement, and use a different free credit card for everything else.

    • Thanks for this tip.

I turned off the insurance features of the card soon as I got it years ago.

I assumed the premium was calculated based on purchases, not just the closing balance.

This trick is good to know!

    • Too much stuffing-around. And for what.

Because some people just can't settle for bargain hunting before they part with their money, they must continue to haggle on an item 6 months after purchase :-)

a better deal is to use the coles mastercard, with price protection for 2 YEARS, as long as the product is still available :)

Thanks, even better is the Coles No Annual Fee Platinum MasterCard (if you qualify for $6,000+ limit). As the purchase insurance is free. Just use this card for purchases that are likely to fall in price.

Well with these cards , just use them for large purchases that are likely to go down in value.

The true Ozbargainer doesn't generally go out an buy the latest and greatest tech, knowing that in 6 months the price will come down.

EG buy the latest Samsung TV for $4000, in 6 months it will likely be less than $3000 put in a claim and get the $1000 back. You get the TV when it first comes out, but end up paying the same price as someone who waited 6 months.

The Platinum Coles card is even better as there is no stuffing around. The protection is complimentary. You can wait up to 2 years, when the TV is on clearance or run-out and make a claim then for $1000's.

        • Was looking at getting a Coles Platinum Mastercard for this reason, but I just read the fine print. Maximum claim is $600 per item and $2000 in total in any 12 month Period.

So still pretty good for a free card, but will not offer the large refunds I suggested above.

PS the 28 Degrees card seems to have the same limits.

  • Is this deal SD? MicroSD? SSD???

128GB/256GB SD cards don't exist yet (at least not on the market; they've been prototyped). These are obviously SSDs.

Wow, the extra $17 to a Samsung Evo 120Gb makes almost a 50% speed improvement http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Samsung-840-Evo-120GB-v…
