Calling everyone to boycott Woolworths group for 2 weeks due to recent event of cancelling orders

Hi all

Due to the recent events in this Deal, Im calling on everyone to Boycott the Woolworths Group for 2 weeks. I think that they should finally realise the power of consumers in the supermarket buisness.

Not only did they waste hours of each of our time placing orders, but sent out emails without an explanation claiming that we contacted them to cancel the orders.

Every week we boycott the Woolworths Group, they loose millions of dollars. Hopefully this will wake them up and show them the power of consumers

Lets support other buisnesses and show woolworths what we are made off.

Woolworths Group = Woolworths, Big W, Masters, etc

      • Same here. Aldi >>>>>> coles > Woolworths

I've seen countless statements like these. And Aldi's own propaganda ads. Been drinking the koolaid long?

They compare premium brands to their own no-name products. Still, it's not 50% cheaper. Nowhere near.

Compare equal black&gold/noname/BiLo (so many others) along with the convenience of having shops everywhere, with actual stock, staffed registers… and Aldi remains a toothless tiger. They're lining their pockets too, thanks to the duopoly.

sorry, totally disagree, i received my order (with $20 discount and free delivery) the next day after my order and on time. the reason woollies cancel most order because a lot of greedy OZB member abuse the system, look at the comment, some (most) of them ordered more than 3 order and then when it was cancelled by woolies, cry like chicken and persuade others to banned woolies. we should banned the broaden, not woolies, they are too greedy and (profanity) others up. sorry just saying

    • -6

I disagree. I split my fortnightly groceries into three orders and received all three. Didn't fake my name or anything like that - the code was not sent to me either.

      Greedyandproud

      • +4

Greedy? I prefer the term hustling.

      • +1

You are genuinely split order but read the comment on the post mostly they abuse the code

    • I ordered only once and it got cancelled.

      • +2

Because most of ozb members abuse the code. Is nothing you can do abt it

      • prolly because you happened to live with other ozbargainers who abuse the system. Maybe try relocating to another suburb.

    • Yes. Users who received the code also could use one coupon. But we found one glitch in their system and tried raping it multiple times. I think Woolies did a wonderful job in cancelling multiple orders to either same address or same user.

    • i agree. Half the people on the initial thread were gloating about abusing it

  • +9

If anyone needs tissues let me know. I have plenty of successfully delivered tissues.

    • +5

hahahahahahahha me too buddy, me too. 24 pack of quilton. probably only last me a day or two with my single status but a cheap wank is better than an expensive one.

      • +9

That's not where I was heading but okay! …lol

  • +1

i don't know how many active users are on here but i suspect boycotting woolworths from a a few people on here that didn't get their orders fulfilled will have ABSOLUTELY NO effect on woolies whatsoever.

    also… stop whining. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EL8e2ujXe8g&feature=kp

  • +10

OP are you serious? If you choose to blatantly abuse an offer, and they eventually get jack of it, and stop you from further doing so, just wear it .

    • It didn't bother me that they cancelled the order. But saying we contact them to cancel it is low, same thing happen with Lenovo a few months ago.

  • +6

more like they should boycott us

    • yeah im sure they'll be trembling in their boots. We're not exactly high value customers.

  • I have no problem with that. I try to shop at my local stores as much as possible already and hardly hit up Woolies/Coles unless it's necessary.

If anything I go IGA more than the two combined.

  • +4

Kidding me, you are not supposed to use two discount coupons for the same order,
after they fixed the website and don't let you use two coupons,
people are still trying to use two coupons on the mobile apps.
    This is not a bargain.
If you managed to get some thing from this error, that's ok, but boycott them?
    I don't think that's a wise idea.

  • +1

And the 8DDC7G coupon code was for the targeted user to use it once every week for three weeks,
after it's been posted on ozb, it's been abused same as any other coupon code.
some users just put lots of orders

  • -1

Woolworths should have been able to pick up the "abuse" of promotional code and applied a fix. This would have saved everybody a lot of time and effort and frustration in the end!

Whilst the gesture of the goodwill discount is welcome, it is not anywhere near the time wasted in going through the online process. The wording on the email sent by them was also not a good stunt - would expect someone like WW to have known better. Perhaps an admission on the "misleading promotional code" would have been a better way to explain the situation.

    • +3

      You don't make sense.

So when you say WW should apply a "fix" to save everyone time. What is this so called fix?

this was a targetted email, that someone has grabbed, and spread around. People have used it as though it is an entitlement to them, when it is not.

Now it's fantastic some people have managed to get it to work, but just because it has worked for some doesn't entitle everyone to it.

Orders are cancelled because the "abuse" has yielded no fruit, you claim they should have known better? and they have wasted your time?

your sense of entitlement is strange to say the least.

  • +4

I think its pretty pathetic to cry boycott when you didn't get a deal.

I'd suggest you'd be boycotting a lot of places.

  • +1

A bit weird, I put in 2 orders, one delivery and one pick-up, both are fine. No dramas. Could the cancellation be specific store related?

    • I think it might be more than 2 orders when woolies cancelled it.

      • Don't think so - My single order was cancelled

        • My 7 orders went thru, don't hate the player, hate the game :)

  • +8

I'm going to shop more at Woolworths stores because of how ridiculous this post is.

    • +6

Yes….For 2 weeks I will shop exclsuively at Woolies and thank the check out lady personally for cancelling Eastern Culture's order.

  • +1

I would, but I use so many coupons in combination with specials and giftcards that boycotting them would actually be doing them a favor.

  • -1

I just called Woolworths. The staff told me that there was a system error last weekend and resulted in order cancellation. They will reinstate my order.

  • +5

I don't know what to vote, because if I don't go to woolworths, I don't get paid :(

  • +5

What a joke. We're not your personal army. It was obviously an exploit and you lucked out.

    • -1

I won't neg you, kheob, but if you're going to use one of the crappiest of all Americanisms, you may as well be one of the people who actually 'get' in right…

'Lucked out', actually means that you 'got lucky', not the other way around.

      • One word for you Tas: 'Monetize'
        The horror… the horror…

        • Yes, 'monetize' also carries a high crap-factor.

      • Eh? I thought it meant 'out of luck' here is Aus.

        Edit:

        • Don't sweat it too much. You're not the first to get it around the wrong way - and you won't be the last!
My suggestion is just to avoid the whole shitty 'lucked out' thing altogether.
I'm sure that I'm not alone in feeling a bit nauseated when ever I hear it. Urgh!

  • I placed 3 orders on 20th, all got delivered today. No cancellations

  • the best trick with this sort of promotion is to order something that they're likely to run out of stock, then Woolies refund the amount and you still get $20 discount. One of my order worked out to be only $21 out of $51 original price so I got more than 50% off. I didn't do it on purpose but it happened to me twice already.

  • Meh. Cut off your nose to spite your face if you must, but judicious shoppers are well in front thanks to their frequent vouchers and easy listing of specials on their website and here.

Be glad they didn't boycott us after hundreds of users got $18 baby wipes for $2 a pop, and received $99 credit vouchers to go with it. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146669

So because the OP is having the sour sacks due to missing out on the deal, he wants everyone to boycott Woolies?? Good luck.

  • +1

Haha wow, OP missed on the deal and decided to boycott, it's good of them to offer coupons for grocerries anyway, and now you bag them trying to handle the abuse.

  • +4

The age of entitlement is not over. We were not entitled to use those codes. They were not addressed to us. We tried it on- tried to game the system- some of us got away with it, some didn't- I didn't get away with it. I don't have anything to complain about.

  • +1

I agree the (profanity) sent me an Everydayrewards coupon for use online but said its been disabled, didnt even bother giving me a replacement.

  • +1

I'll be spending some extra at Woolworths just to make up for anyone who boycotts them. Coles and Aldi will just miss out for a couple of weeks.

  • +3

I'm getting really pissed at Woolies when they start pushing for their own "Select" products and removing some brands that I rally like, e.g. Health Basics shower gel, which I buy from Priceline at a way better price now. If you buy more of their SELECT products the prices will go up. I have tried many Woolies Select products, just don't find the quality and taste to be nice or worth the savings( e.g. Select pizza sauce tastes way too thick like tomato paste, Select biscuits contains way more sugar.). The way how they try to copy/imitate other brands packaging designs. Coles is getting just as bad… I shop at Aldi also, but I usually stay away from their canned foods if they are made from 3rd world countries or not Australian/NZ made. Buying fruit and Veggies from local markets and butchers the way to go. Woolies and Coles need to stop bombarding us with their crap brands. I hate the Everyday rewards card!, no real benefits, at least Flybuys gives me point/s for every dollar I spend at Coles, at east I'm getting a little something back at the end of the year, like a $100 voucher for BCF or K-Mart.

  • +2

Signed in to add that 3 orders I placed all got delivered. In fact they ran out of stock on nappies and refunded me the full price which ended earning me $10 for one of the orders. Imagine… Getting $15 worth of grocery and being paid $10 as well. Best deal of 2014. I also get wish gift cards at 5% discount and shop smart to stock up when stuff is on sale…works for me so can't divorce woolies

    • I think you just made EC and the others even more angry, lol.

I can almost hear them break out into a Shannon noll "WHAT ABOUT MEEEE, IT ISN'T FAIR"

    • Why do you tease the less fortunate..? LOL

  • Getting on board. But then again I'm feeling super pissed off that my weekend plan was disrupted and I don't shop with them a lot. So I could change my mind if they offered compensation.

  • Many people fail to understand how supermarket chains buy their stock.
Case 1. Watermelon - supplier delivers stock to the individual stores at 0.04/kilo and the store sells for $1.99/kilo.
Case 2. Bread - manufactures deliver to the individual stores, stock the shelves, rotate the stock and pay for the shelf space. The supermarket chain then gets a rebate depending on the volume they sell.
The Head Office makes more from bread sales than the stores. In the Eastern States the supplier is also responsible for the waste (product not sold is returned for credit).

guys let me share my story.. frequent woolies shopper instore and online… had been buying $100+ from woolies online every week for last two months

    made 2 x $51 orders … paying $31 each

out of stock on the product i wanted (all same product)..

received only my $62 back and not a cent more…… when i emailed them to ask if they would extend any voucher to me as goodwill this is what i got back today

    Dear X,

Thank you for contacting Woolworths Online regarding order XXX delivered on 21 Jun 2014.
The following coupons have been issued:

    Coupon ID: Expiry: Amount:
        SCXAg-eE-YRB 26 Sep 2014 $0.01

DONT ALL RUSH TO TRY AND USE THE 1 CENT COUPON NOW!!!!!

are they taking the mickey or what

and i was super nice is my email request to them as well

now im not going to come out and say im boycotting them because im not but you have to admit some of the outcomes on here are very extreme

  • I'm happy with my orders - 40% off already discounted sales prices (some 1/2 price & all same price as store), delivered on time, paid with Gift Cards bought at 5% discount.

There were nearly 700 +, 1 -, & not many retracted votes - signs that most were very happy with deal. Some complaining said they only shopped at Coles. Some people are strangely loyal to their favourite big business, which may explain some attitudes. (BUT no one likes their order cancelled.)

Early in this deal there were comments that cancellations were a possibility. That was likely as we were exploiting an error in Woolies system that allowed a $10 discount on $50 to be stacked with one for $10 discount on $40 - both used on same $50 order! The original t&c on the coupon codes were not posted.

As I posted in deal, cancellations seemed to come after Woolies had withdrawn ability to enter 2 discount codes per order. That was long after the deal was posted! We found a way around that using Apps, but a pop-up showed Woolies did not want us using second code. OzBargainers weren't the first to notice this 40% discount scheme, and it was reposted & communicated widely. Woolies system detected over use of codes & the error corrected. The t&c agreed to place the order states Woolies can withdraw coupon offers at "anytime", which includes after order placed. Woolies withdrew codes, making orders using them underpaid, so cancelled.

I won't be doing any major shopping at Woolies (or any other supermarket) for a while, as my fridge & shelves are too full after so many Woolies deals lately.

BUT to mount a revolt like proposed because some people used codes that Woolworths never intended to be stacked - exploiting an error that benefited probably most who ordered, is ridiculous. (And talk about flea biting an elephant's back.)

And then complaining that their pro forma email response did not fit this particular cancellation instance… cancellation would usually be at the request of the customer, hence the wording. Don't think Woolies anticipated mass rorting of their system requiring a special cease & desist cancellation email.

So most who ordered early probably received their orders & are happy with the 40% discount. (I placed a successful order over 24 hours after the deal was posted.) BUT on OzBargain, the successful move on to the next deal, while those who miss out neg comments of success, & post about boycotts :-(

Sorry EC - I usually like all your good work.

And the poll is poorly worded & skewed away from the No response of "No,sorry but i cant live without them" which is ridiculous - we can all live with out Woolies! That just leaves a "Not Interested" response possible if you do not support a boycott!

  • The evil empire strikes back at Oz Bargain boycott (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/151622)

    • Nothing to see here.
No - seems only 1 user had problem with Woolies site for alcohol purchase.
