  • I don't really think this is such a great deal, vodafone sells sim cards for $2 (as do most prepaid companies)

  • yeh exactly. you can buy optus sims for $4, so it's really only a saving of $4 plus you have to wait ages for optus to post it.

    • Exactly, it will end up costing you more waiting to collect the Sim card from Post Office. Damn that place take ages.

  • if you need to spend ("recharge at least $30 before September 21, 2009" in this case), its sort of "buy ten get one plastic bag free" and never a freebie.

    No thanks.
I have never received a Free SIM card previously offered by Optus. How can I expect it's real this time??
They may be just collecting your personal data for marketing.

As far as I can remember, this would be the third time that Optus have had this offer (or something similar to it) up.

The first time I received the SIM Card, and that time they only offered 20 Free SMS (only to other Optus Prepaid users). That one worked fine, and I still have the SIM card now.

I think the second time was identical to this one (ie. 500 Free SMS after recharging with $30 Turbocharge), but I never received it.

This would be the third time, and since I don't intend to do the $30 recharge, I won't sign up for it. I still think it is a decent deal for someone who is actually after Optus prepaid though, so I will positive this.

If you spent $30 a month on credit, then look at tpg mobile caps, they're plans are much better and they don't have a contract.
If you spend less than $30 a month have a look a vodafone, they even have a "365" plan where credit expires after 1 year. Thats pretty damn good imo.

Optus prepaid is meh in comparison to others, you'll save over "$2" if you do research and go elsewhere.

      • If you don't spend much on calls look at Planet ISP for cheap rates
(33c per min to anyone, No flagfall, billed per sec). Pay as you go (no min per month), no credit expiry issues. They use Vodadfones network. I got my SIM the next business day and got great customer service via phone/email. If you want to be based on the Optus network check Slimtel.

        • Just had a look at Slimtel and they are actually on the Vodafone network. When I was trying to find a provider on the Optus network, I looked all over and I remember coming across Slimtel. I don't recall it being on Optus so I decided to check and yea it's not. I was just trying to find a provider for my mum who hardly makes calls, and the best I could find was Virgin's 180 days expiry $15 prepaid plan. Works out to be $2.50 per month, just so I can call her for free on TPG/Soul/Optus 'yes' time.

I lost my sim and went ot Vodafone shop. They gave me a free sim to reactivate with my previous number. For Free.

I rather spend $2 buying from Coles, at least you can choose the number

    • Hmm I wouldn't say you can't 'pick' your number with this Optus one. When I activated mine, I kept refreshing till I got a number that I was happy with. Thing is, you can't go back to a number you liked if you missed it. Which kinda sucks I guess haha.

dont really like optus service. takes forever to tranfer over our number.

    • I disagree.

      that's a personal experience. it's still a bargain.

  • I'm after a new mobile number, looking for one that is easy to remember. Would i be able to take advantage of this offer without recharging ?

  • Deal is still on until 30 September!
