Do you even know what good food tastes like?

    • +1

At the risk of also getting a lot of negs, I have to agree. Their burgers are bloody average.
Only worth buying with this 50% discount IMO.

What place would you consider better than Huxtaburger?

My top 4 (in no particular order) in Melbourne is Rockwell & Sons, Huxtaburger, Rockpool, Beatbox Burger.

        • Andrew's Burgers, Embassy Taxi / heck even Grill'd is way better IMO along with my local Fish & Chip shop.
Huxta's are like a slider and low on flavour and filling choice IMO. I have NFI what the association between the Cosby's and burgers are either..

Yeah, so its really an Australian vs. traditional (US)/gourmet method. Traditionally Australian burgers are cooked well done, medium density bread, lots of toppings (eggs, beetroot etc.).

Where as traditional US/gourmet tend to be a fresher brioche or soft bun, meat cooked to medium, sauce tends to be thousand island/tangy mayo style and not many toppings (certainly no beetroot).

If you've grown up eating Aussie style then fair enough but the style of Huxtaburger is what you would get at a famous NY burger place like Shake Shack.

Similar to Italian style pizza vs. NY style vs. Chicago deep dish vs. Aussie.

          EDIT: Spelling.

        • Yeah I hear you on the variations. But I had Shake Shack and Schnippers in NYC and they crapped on Huxta.

Anywho, price wise, it's a good deal!

        • Here is my "beef" with hipstaburger huxtaburger.
Their patties are really, really salty. I like salty food but I find it really overpowering and it leads me to my second problem with them.
I think the patties are quite tough, which I think is a result of presalting the patties which makes them more like a sausage than a burger.
Lastly, the breadtop bun is really inappropriate for such a juicy burger. Halfway through eating it, I find that the bun has mostly disintegrated, leaving me with grease everywhere. I don't mind making a mess when I eat but the bun needs to soak up the juices better so they don't end up on the floor. (I'm an OzBargainer, I paid for those juices!
I do think that for Melbourne they are reasonably priced, and I'd probably overlook my issues if they were half price and I was in the area.
My top 4 Melbourne burgers are also in no particular order, Brother Burger & the Marvellous Brew, Beatbox, the Edinburgh Castle & my local chippy (convenience trumps all)

This is a good deal but I don't understand the advantage (in general) of paying via Paypal for food..

    • +3

think PP is footing the bill.. its all about getting us moving towards a cashless society.. Credit cards, paypal, thumb print scanners at supermarket self serve, tv's that watch you. There is no escape.. someone morning paranoia for ya..

      • Yeah that's what I heard from the merchant that Paypal is footing the bill for them/customers.

        • My local butcher has moved to cashless payment primarily for hygiene, and I agree. The amount of people who take money with the same hand they used to serve food is incredible. And wearing a glove doesn't make it better. It's not the fact that skin is dirty, it's the fact that you are touching filthy money and someone's food with the same surface.

      Doesn't work at Maccas unfortunately… :(

  • So - do you order as usual at the counter - they tell you how much it costs and you send it via paypal - or is it all done via the app?

    • My coffee place had PayPal there… U can either go to the app find the place using location services and order ur items and pay for it and go there in a few minutes… Or u check in once you are there and tell them u are checked in and they simply put the order through on their side (they had a tablet with the merchants app) and debit your account or linked card. Your phone will then register the payment on the app.. It's fantastic!

If you are going to high street Huxtaburger, brick lane coffee shop (5 mins down the road) has 50 cents coffee via paypal till 29th of June.

  • What is the motive behind offering PayPal?
Apart giving from a other form of payment, why?

    • Paypal is probably paying sellers or offering no fees for them to accept paypal.

Paypal wants a market share becaause the payment business is massive, visa and master card are multi-billion dollar business (and when i say mutli, i mean globally massive).

they handle trillions of dollars of payments and take a sliver of a cut from every transaction from the vendors.

paypal wants this slice of share, and will offer their serives for free to begin with to get a hold.

  • So does anyone know how this works? do you need to tell Huxta when paying that you are using paypal so they charge half the price? or does paypal simply reimburse 50% like ING does with its 5% paywave?

    anyone used their app?

    • +1

I used it for lunch today.

Go in, set up the app, and "Check in" to Huxtaburger on the paypal app, then you make your order and it charges your paypal account.

Don't use the "order ahead" service from the paypal app, or you won't get the discount.

So you order at the counter and tell them you're paying by paypal - or did you order through the app?

        • Order at the counter.

        • Thanks man :-)

  • Used it today. Pretty easy and it was delicious.

  • does it matter if I'm running an older android version of the PayPal app?

    • pretty good. thx op
Never used the app before, but it was a breeze. They wanted an ID photo (profile pic on paypal or whatever) which was kinda weird.. meh had a hoodie on and picture was barely legible.. take that new world order.

I was in Smith St Collingwood last night and beers were included. Amazing deal and it was the first time I've paid for food with PayPal too.

I work in the financial services industry and I think it's a costly form of marketing for PayPal but for the long run they stand to make a killing in the form of ongoing merchant fees. For the customer it was awesome to get my itemised bill in the app and on email. This'll really shake up the banks in the coming year. Hats off to PayPal on this initiative!

    Awesome deal.
The guy from PayPal was at the prahran store, and because my internet was dropping in and out. He paid for it.

  • yeh not bad, they really need to cut down on the salt tho.

  • The Hux left me somewhat unsatisfied..not enough sauce, either. Maybe Theo's extra meat will give me what I need

  • Can't log in to ios app. It has just been saying "We're Sorry System error. Please try again later." since Monday.

I have $0 balance, cc defined and sms codes enabled.

Is it possible that's the issue: https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/About-Payments-Archive/C…?

I am not going to switch sms codes off, even though they seem not to be making it to my phone quite too often.

Can confirm you don't need the app.Just order online through their own widget, and it's all half price at the moment. I placed mine at work, then collected literally ten minutes later when I arrived. https://huxtaburger-widget.beattheq.com/

    • nice.

Are the cans of coke normally $4 each? damn

    • Thanks! This was even easier than all that Paypal fiddling. Got 3 burgers and some chips, all at half price.
BTW, I always laugh when I see your username.

  • Went to the High St store last night.
A lot of people (some people saying full price but most people using paypal)
There was bit of wait so I watch the guy making burger and it might have been his first day or something…
He was making a lot mistakes (putting wrong ingredients, dropping ingredients and putting them back in..

    • hmm lol. I went there the first night but wasn't watching the bloke.. guess I will next time

  • fyi.. if you are around windsor station there is cafe right near there on chapel that does 50c coffee with PP. Forgot to take a pic.. valid till 29th June tho

  • had today. waited 30 mins for the burger - worth it though.
also, download burgerhead app to help you find burgers - iphone only.
