      And? What's your point?

      • Slap on another name and different colour, [same unit]bingo "new" brand

GMC and 909 brands where started/owned by the ex boss on B&D

  • +1

Bunnings morley didn't honour the price, and wasn't in West aussie according to them

  • +3

dunno, a lot of that looks like everyday prices. $399 for the makita mitre saw is standard. heated jacket is rrp. bunnings hardly ever have any "specials" in their catalogues. it is always just advertising. i never bother looking at them.

Why don't you post all the information about DeWalt instead of cherry picking one part that doesn't give the full story? Oh look the full story gives a lot more information including that it was a separate company and DeWalt purchased German technology and are a very popular contractor tool. DeWalt has very little in common with Black & Decker power tools apart from technology which flows down to B&D. And you also left out that other important part that DeWalt manufacture a lot of tools in the USA again, they also manufacture at places in Europe including Germany.

Pretty poor effort to post two separate paragraphs that by themselves are incorrect and misleading whilst ignoring paragraphs that change the whole picture ie the part where DeWalt are now manufacturing again in the USA.

DeWalt batteries are also top notch with Japanese cells in them.

The original company was started in 1936 by Raymond E. DeWalt, the inventor of the radial arm saw. The company grew quickly and was reorganized in 1947, manufacturing radial arm saws and other stationary woodworking machines.

After buying the company in 1949, American Machine & Foundry Co., Inc. sold it to Black & Decker in 1960.

Black & Decker divested itself of the radial arm saw manufacturing branch in 1989, selling it to two executives. Radial arm saws that use the original DeWalt design can still be obtained from the Original Saw Co.[1]

In 1992, Black & Decker started a major effort to rebrand its professional quality and high-end power tools to DeWalt. Currently, DeWalt manufactures and sells more than 200 different power hand-tools and 800 accessories.

In 1994, DeWalt took over the German wood working power tool producer ELU. DeWalt increased their line of tools using ELU's technology. DeWalt is now a popular brand of tools for commercial contractors.

In 2002, DeWalt ceased all tool manufacturing in the USA and moved manufacturing to Mexico and China.

In 2004, Black and Decker bought rival power tool manufacturer Porter-Cable and combined it with DeWalt in Jackson, Tennessee.[2]

DeWalt now produces a full line of compact and lithium ion cordless drills. The same battery used for the drill can also run one of the 40 other tools DeWalt produces, such as impact wrenches and circular saws.

As of November 2013, per a press release on Veteran's day, DeWalt claims to be bringing some tool manufacturing back to the US with their "Built in the USA with GLOBAL MATERIALS" logo. These tools will be assembled using components sourced from other countries and it does not include items like chargers and batteries (which will continue to be manufactured elsewhere).[3]

In 2011, DeWalt launched a line of contractor's hand tools (including utility knives, pliers, adjustable wrenches, tape measures, saws, and hammers).[4] In 2013, the line was expanded to include mechanic's tools (wrenches, ratchets, and sockets).

Although DeWalt gear is pretty good, all the tradies I know (I know a fair few) have gone full circle and are now back on Makita. Makita->DeWalt->Milwaukee->Makita, I'm sure the carousel will keep spinning, but it seems the favs at the moment are Makita and the 'word on the street' is that DeWalt are not the current king.

Obviously that could be due to some good marketing/sales/pr - so take this comment as you will.

        • +1

yeah i agree makita range is pretty good. compact and lighter. but this is a pretty good deal for $198 including the 4Ah batteries.

      • -3

The items in question are not made in the USA so the fact that a few DeWalt items are is not relevant to this deal.

The full information wasn't posted so as not to spam this thread with useless information, I was of the opine that posting that is was the premium brand of Black and Decker refuted 8200's comment about it being "just Black and Decker".

You claim that I cherry picked the wikipedia article yet you clam that "… two separate paragraphs that by themselves are incorrect and misleading whilst ignoring paragraphs that change the whole picture ie the part where DeWalt are now manufacturing again in the USA." Which is totally incorrect as only a few select items are made in the USA as per the information you yourself quoted.

You seem a little too invested in the Black and Decker brand? Are you associated with them?

        • I have no relationship with Black and Decker apart from owning quite a few DeWalt 18V cordless tools (around 12 of them at last count), a number of Bosch Blue corded tools, some Metabo and have owned a number of different cordless products from various brands before settling on DeWalt cordless tools in 2003 and I still have the 2003 tools going strong although mostly delegated now to backup role.

You quoted the part where they moved their manufacturing to Mexico and China but didn't quote the part about USA manufacturing nor the European side. Sorry but you let out a lot of pertinent information about the brand in an attempt to mislead.

I'm not suggesting that DeWalt are the best but they sure are up there at the top and few of the other brands have maintained their ranges of tools/batteries like DeWalt have. I still use the same tools that I purchased in 2003 with the newer lithium batteries released around 2007? that I still use now and I can still buy all the tools to suit that battery size. The newer 18V line (called the 20V to differentiate between the old one) is being sold alongside the older style.

Given that this battery size was introduced in the 90's I think running the range across 20+ years is pretty good and with a battery technology refresh part way through when many others would have dropped support for the older tools and changed to a new battery style.

And on top of this I have had two minor failures despite the tools copping a beating from me with one an impact driver that I abused (so much fun to use!) replaced under warranty and the other was a switch on a rotary hammer that was fixed under warranty in a few days.

As DeWalt have been so good to me and others that I know with the tools I see no reason to change to another brand that would actually cost me more which comes to the value for money side of DeWalt, their tools are top notch yet available cheaply because of the volumes they sell.

My old black and decker drill smells like burning iron when its on but is going on 28yrs strong!
But my dewalt bits strip prety easily in it… Go figure.
      Source: myshed

      • +2

        Go figure.

Doesn't really say anything about their power tool build quality.

        • +2

Considering a bit is not a power tool, i'd say 28years for a B&D drill is good build quality.
Cant speak for these days new tech drills though..
That said i have a Bosh cordless from 5yrs ago thats still going strong too!
I do find that dewalt bits in high powered drills tend to be too soft over time.
But you get what you pay for.
I reccomend german made or japanese made bits.
          They just last.
Edit: pmupsinep, cant speak for dewalt drills, never had one.
The bits are shithouse IMHO, But if B&D = Dewalt according to above comments, then lets hope build quality outlasts my iron burn emitting, killer drill of 28yrs!

      • +1

Yeah. All plain bits (any brand) I've used are like plastic. Strip or crumble. So now I ignore all those cute little kits. By forged/impact bits, and fill the case with them instead.

They cost a lot more. But carrying 5+ cheap bits (of each type) is a joke.

        Great for casual DIY, though.

  • Looks to be Australia wide according to their online catalogue - http://bunnings.dynamiccatalogue.com.au/catalogue/bunnings-c…

Online catalogue accessed via - http://www.bunnings.com.au/catalogue

    • The online catalogue shows a drill with 1.3Ah batteries for $199, not what is shown in this deal. The drill above is in the same catalogue for $369.

      • +1

You beat me by 2 seconds - I was about to update my post. Page 4 of the catalogue has a DeWalt with 2 x 4.0Ah batteries, but the price is $369???

        • @ tight-ass,
Does that mean it was a pricing error in The Daily Telegraph Ad?

  • +1

Bunnings Wodonga Vic, honoured the price without any issues. Guy in the tool shop said the drill was going back to the full price on Monday. He also reckoned it an "insane deal" for the Dewalt

    • What model drill and Ah batteries did you get??? Absolute bargain if you can get this drill package for $199 Looks like those of us in WA miss out……again

  • Just bought one in Sunshine Victoria with no issues. 1 in stock remaining 30 mins before they closed. Thanks!

    • well done. Which model did u get? with 2x4Ah batteries or 1.4 Ah?

  • Which "Today's Paper"? Think there's more than one paper today.

  • +1

Hi "tight-ass", the drill I picked up was the DCD785M2 with two 4Ah batteries

    • Oakleigh south, vic still have around 5

  • Guys sorry I should have mentioned

    Nsw daily telegraph

    • Also in herald sun

      • Can you advise which Page of the herald sun?

  • Does the bottom of the ad say when it starts and ends?

    • No it doesn't, I assume it ends 30/6 because it says tax time deals

This is the ad, can't zoom in on it very good.

  • -1

The de Walt gear is top quality stuff.. If it's $198 with 2 x 4.0ah battery then it's an absolute bargain.. If it's 1.5ah we'll then not so much a bargain but still a pretty good deal..

  • Can confirm that for the $198 it was the Dewalt DCD785M2 18 Volt Lithium Ion 2-Speed Combi Drill, 2 x 4.0Ah batteries, charger and kitbox

    • Mind you, I presume Bunnings staff get a discount as the sales rep told me he bought one this morning for $150…

  • anyone from WA got this deal?

    • @ sorterx,
I'm going to try at the Balcatta store or Morley Bunnings store tomorrow morning and will mention their Price Guarantee Statement.

      • Update:
Bunnings Morley said that $199 deal in W.A. is for the 1.3Ah batteries.

        • +1

THX, bender. Not sure how their price guarantee works, why dont they even honor the price in their own store?

        • @ sorterx,
They wouldn't do it because it's probably a clearance promotion and they didn't know if or when and maybe never the same promotion will happen in W.A.

  • +1

Total tools have the same deal but with 1$ extra. If anyone interested

    • +1

You got a link, can't find it on their website?

      • +1

        http://www.totaltools.com.au/eofy-frenzy/#/1053939_1053959

Not sure why on the website shows $429 but I saw in South Melbourne before for $199. Total tools model is a different one. The difference between Bunnings (DCD785M2) and Total Tools (DCD985N if it is the one)

        DCD785M2 over Total Tools
        Has extra battery (2x 4.0A over 1x 4.0A)
Include hard case (if you only have this tools only)

        Total Tools over DCD785M2
        Better model
22 positions over 14 positions torque control. Good for optimised precision when screwdriving
Tough 3 speed all metal transmission over 2 speed
include tool bag for this drill and your other tools

both of them come with a wall charger.

In my opinion if you need a better quality one go for Total Tools but if you want extra battery and don't need the tool bag, go for Bunnings one.

Fyi, I got the Bunnings one since I have already have tool bag.

        • The DCD785 is a compact hammer drill, whereas the DVD985 is regular size. The difference is about 40mm in length, and a far bit in height too.

Surely Bunnings' Price Guarantee should be valid against their own prices in another state?

    http://www.bunnings.com.au/price-guarantee

"At Bunnings you'll find just what you need. We have the widest range at the lowest prices every day.

If you happen to find a cheaper price on a stocked item we'll beat it by 10%*

*Excludes trade quotes, stock liquidations and commercial quantities. Shelf prices may be lower than advertised to ensure lowest prices every day.

Bunnings' price guarantee applies to any cheaper price found on an online store or in a physical store in Australia. It applies where the other store's final price, inclusive of delivery, taxes, fees and charges, is lower than our price."

    • I was told by a staff member that they don't even price match with stores in their own state.

In WA I saw a bunnings ad on TV today showing a dewalt drill for $199. Not sure what kind though

      • Also saw this on the tele, no mention of whether its the 1.4A or 4.0A battery tho.

        • @ Moj0,
The $199 deal in W.A. is for 2x 1.3Ah batteries. It's about $30-$40 off their regular price.

  • awesome prices, hope to get some tomorrow

  • +1

Seriously Dewalt you can't get any better.

Have a big range of their battery operated tools and they really are trade tough.

  • might be NSW only. i checked my local bunnings and they had this kit at $369 and the kit with 2x1.4 Ah batteries for $199.

  • +1

There are heaps of dcd785m2 kit at bunnings caroline springs. Scanned price is $198. No hassle.

  • just bought from Thomastown VIC store, about 6 left, scanned at $198

  • Thanks OP just got one at Wagga DCD785M2-XE $198, still one more left on shelf.

  • Thanks OP, fantastic deal.

There are 5 left at Coburg as of 10am Sunday.

  • Joondalup store said that the advertised model (Took the page fom the Telegraph with their advert on it) has a -XE on the end, their units do not have the -XE (They are XR. They say that XE relates to main electric.. But advert shows the batteries….).
Anyway, Joondalup WA would not honour this advertised deal

    • mine had no XE or XR on the label, on the drill it had XE

      • Looking at the Bunnings website, the model in the store does not show XE or XR as part of the model name/ number, but online the same set does have -XE after its model name. So the advert is correct.

Not much point in getting into an argument with the store staff, they either accept this advert and match it, or they don't. They really did not want to let one go at Joondalup WA at that price, bad luck for me.

  • Got one drill, great deal. Got them to check stock around Northern Melbourne, Thomastown, South Morang and Eltham have at least six in stock each as at 10:30. The Bunnings staff discount came up as $360. The staff member said he would also buy one at public price and you could not ever get battery's for this price.

  • Great find op.

Picked one up from northland around 8 this morning… Though There were no more sitting with the one I found. This is despite being told there were 5 in store.

As a side note, went to Coburg prior at around 7am who said they didn't have any (which is strange given zabar picked one up at 10am)

    • +1

Wow, that's annoying re Coburg. I found the empty shelf space and got them to look up the barcode. The actual stock was way up the top and they needed the platform lift to reach them.

  • +2

I bought this same model about a year ago from bunnings when they were running out the 3.0ah kit (DCD785L2-XE - I think it was about $215 I got it for).

The tool is the same as the DCD785M2 (M2 signifies 4.0ah kit, C1 / C2 are the 1.5ah kit) and DCD785N indicated bare tool only (Skin)
The 3.0ah batteries last for ages, and having 2 is the best. 4.0ah would be even better.

This is an awesome driver. Copped heaps of abuse this year. Drilling spade through hardwood studs, drilling dynabolt holes into conrete & brick. Very torquey and powerful for a cordless. I believe it may be making way for the DCD795 brushless drill hammer driver range hence the VERY cheap price.

If bunnings whinge about it not listing the XE- go to a different bunnings as they are the same kit!

If you ever needed a quality drill with 3 yr warranty - get this one!

  • +1

$59 for the Sidchrome socket set is great. $109 is a standard price from competitors too. Details on what's included:
    http://www.sydneytools.com.au/products/7052-sidchrome-scmt19…

  • Thanks op good find, got one this morning in Mentone store, had about 6 left @10:00am
    drill made in China
    Battery charger Thailand
    Battery Pack Japan
At the front of the tool section was marked $369, didn't see these on the way in.
went to the shelf was empty, but there at the shelf reddish label displayed $198
staff went up the top self with his lift had 3
    scanned $198
    very happy

  • Thanks Op. Picked up the drill from Chatswood, np, they had a pile of them. The socket set scanned at full price, but I showed a printout of the ad and after a quick chat with the manager they gave it to me for $59.

  • None left at Northcote or Coburg. I got the last one at Thomastown. Thanks OP.

  • No mention of expiry. Guessing Monday (30th June) close of store.

  • Got a DeWalt from Ballarat Bunnings. None left now. Off to drill some random pieces of concrete now. Thanks OP.

  • For one at mount gravatt QLD. They had about 5 left in stock. They are unlabeled in a display near the front of the store with other dewalt tools, not in the tool shop. Got the second last spanner set.

    Thanks OP

  • Thanks OP, Bunnings Balgowlah had a few.
    Went through with no issues

  • Just got in box hill bunnings. They have the xr model rather than the listed xe. But scanned as 198. The guy there said it is a bargain. Plenty of stock there.

    • Also got the XR (thanks OP)

Anyone know the difference? Pity just finished a reno, so this is probably gonna collect dust for a while yet…

  • Thanks everyone for the stock availability comments.
I'm about to had off to another WA store to go into battle for a price match. Could a kind soul please post a piccy of a purchase receipt so I can get past the model number typo loophole ?
    Love this community !!

Rockwell are in the same league as Ozito. Checking the rated torque for a cordless drill is a good way of gauging the quality at a glance.

  • +2

Penrith Bunnings had about 10 left as of 16:00hrs today. $369 on the display card. I showed the tool checkout the photo and instantly got it at $198 and then showed them my PowerPass Trade card (all of 2 days old, you just need an ABN) and got another $40 off. Must admit I was surprised that there was any further discount to be had, perhaps an error in their systems?

All up then - $158. Happy!

    • PowerPass Trade card… tell me more.

      • 30 day terms (or is it 14 days?), 5% discount.

        • It doesn't have to be on credit. Mine is scan and pay at the same time. My dewalt came down to $158 as well. BARGAIN!

        • So the power pass - "…is for business and commercial purposes and will be used wholly or predominantly for business and commercial purposes"
Anyone just use this non-commercially? ie just when you want to pick up a drill at a good price, home maintenance, etc

BTW thanks op, got one at Rocklea yesterday. Still ticketed original price but no problems, had about 7 or so remaining late AM

    • I got one at Rockdale Bunnings yesterday. They had to get them from with the lift from the top shelf.

Came to $158 as well with the Powerpass Card. Awesome deal!

  • Hey guys, those who missed out on this deal.. there is a Bosch combo kit at Total tools for $399, available until tomorrow.

comes with an impact driver and the drill is pretty solid too with 16mm Masonry capacity.

Its a $100 more than this one but i guess the impact is at least worth that much.

I just tried to get the drill package at the Cannington store (WA) for $199 without any luck - they wouldn't budge and said the prices in WA are more then the eastern states due to the freight costs

    • @ tight-ass,
I tried Balcatta store and they were….what's worse than useless?
      Pathetic? A waste of Oxygen?
They don't even have it in their product line up.

    • The freight excuse is BS as all suppliers to Bunnings are "Free into Store" nation wide!

  • +1

bunnings are notorious for price matching. they do not even price match their own stores.

  • I picked 2 sets up this morning in Bunnings Hawthorn Victoria when they opened. One for me and one for my dad. They had 8 in store at the time and no price matching was required as it was ticketed at the special price.
