      You don't need a specific Mac client. Just install Tunnelblick and import the ovpn files from Astrill's website.

    How to signup for an account? I tried to signup using the code but keep getting error saying something wrong with the code and need to disable VPN/Proxy on my computer but I don't have these VPN/Proxy enable? thanks

    Ironically, for a security product, Astrill email your account password in plain text when you register. Not off to a good start. Also have to provide phone number and address when registering. Not sure what is going to happen to the bunny that lives at 1 Smith St.

      A recently heard podcast reminded us that FBI once -demanded- a "private eMail service" operator to hand over the site's SSL key(s), because Snowden was using it. FBI wanted to be able to see his "plain text" communications (but of course would also have gotten access to all other users' commmunications, in plain text, ie, if owner handed them over.

      Instead of handing them over, the owner just shut down the business & its site… Otherwise, he'd have been advertising "privacy" but not delivering it, since the FBI would have been able to see it all.)

      What similar risks does using a VPN bring…? FBI can well have pressured other service owners, ie, like VPN services. Not all could afford to shut down.

      I changed my password on the windowsdeal website straight away.
      Unfortunately it's not secured by SSL encryption.
      Better than nothing.

    Guys, you probably know all this, but for me it was an eye opener (the bit about keeping logs etc). Have a look at this report -

        In cases where FBI have -got- their hardware installed at a company's server site, the company is NOT ALLOWED TO TELL ANYONE about it.

        So, if a VPN operator is in USA, I'd say there's a risk you don't get complete guarantee of privacy.
