Beware of preinstalled bloatware that comes with this.

IOBit is an unethical company based in China accused of distributing their own malware in the past and plagiarizing source code from MalwareBytes, amongst other shenanigans.. Their software generally scores poor reviews.

    • The last statement is inaccurate in regard to ASC, but you do need to know what utilities are useful and what parts of their system scan to utilise.

  • There was a recent discussion about this software based on my question

  • What's a better option for those of us with computer brains typical of your average Mother inlaw?
I have the Microsoft essentials installed on my PC and all I do is press "full scan" every so often but it has yet to find anything.

    • ASC is a useful bag of utilities which can help to keep your computer clean of the thousands of bits of rubbish you accumulate. I wouldn't recommend it if you aren't computer savvy. It isn't an AV.

MS Essentials is a basic level AV. Plenty of better (free or sub) products, including Malwarebytes or Avast. See here for some comparison charts.

  • actually, i think iobit should not be classified as a bargain and removed by mods.
    apologies to poster

  • Does a ok job at cleaning crap off your computer, then does a fantastic job of filling your computer with their own (way worse) crap. This software should be classed as malware or a virus.

    • Yes, it's not for novices. You need to do a user install to ensure other unwanted junk isn't installed, be selective about what parts of the application you use, and understand what you're doing.
