      • +5

        There's a Big W at Canberra Airport? That's … different.

        • It is near the airport….sort of a smilar setup to the DFOs near the Melbourne and Brisbane airports

        • Next to Costco and Woolies mate, Majura Park

    • +1

Just in case anyone goes to Southland BigW for the new sale on today looking for cheap games and bedding……the catalogue says 100's of titles for games, they had about 20 different titles (combined) for xbox and vita with about 3 ds games. Bedding was even more of a disappointment with maybe 4 items in the entire section being discounted, each one only had 1 in stock. DONT BOTHER, THIS IS NOT A REAL 50% SALE

  • +4

Hopefully Zelda Twilight Princess will be $10 at my local. Went looking last time without luck.

    • +3

Unfortunately It's only the original version at $10. The Nintendo Selects range is $49

      • Is there a difference besides the box?

        • +1

Not sure, but the price kills it

    • For those looking for the $10 Zelda TP saw a copy at Burleigh Heads QLD Big W at $10 scanned.
Also had a copy of Dragon Quest 6 for ds at $10 that I didn't get.
Did get a copy of Gravity Rush for vita for $10 though.

  • +1

I do need some drink bottles…

What's the bet the laptops will still be overpriced?

    • Doubt it. Its rare for BigW to have a product at 200% RRP

    • Although it is over priced, I hope with 50% off, it may be well bellow the other stores' prices. Don't know yet, have to go to store this Thursday. Let's see :)

    • +5

Can't find any laptop in their online catalog

  • cant seem to see the flyer

    • woops, its loading now

  • +13

Selected is the key word here.

    • +2

Yep very limited range in store after all these sales.

      • If this sale is anything like their last online sale then there will be sfa stock in store but plenty online. Reverse applied last time and they didn't give a fig.

        • As expected, no stock of Canon ink. Iirc the ACCC has warned retailers about making sales claims while having insufficient stock. This mob think they can take us for a ride by using general terms like "selected". With no other option I'll take anything they advertise generally with a grain of salt and shop at more reliable and honest places. Dodgy brothers has nothing at all on this mob.

Do love their new website though. Searched for canon printer ink, got 78 items returned - skirts, blouses and other paraphernalia I didn't know Canon printed until I came to the wonderful new BigW website. Epic fail all round I'd say.

    • Yep. No HP printers or ink. No Canon printers or ink. Can't believe I was stupid enough to yet again go in and peruse another Big W 'Mega Sale'.

  • +17

Word of warning for those looking at USB keys at Big W. The Lexar USB 3.0 keys (the only USB 3.0 keys Big W carry) are an entirely plastic construction (ignoring IEEE recommendations for USB 3.0), and as a result output enough interference to affect wireless mice to the point of them being unusable.

I imagine they would also generate enough interference to affect wireless network speeds as well.

You leave your usb sticks plunged in all the time? That would be an easy fix

      • +29

Hm, let me copy a file to the USB stick:
        1. Plug in the stick
        2. Drag file across
        3. Ah crap, the mouse does not work
        4. Unplug the stick, mouse works again
        5. Plug in stick again, mouse dead again
        6. Go to shop and buy a wired mouse or wrestle with keyboard shortcuts just to copy a file.

        • +5

good point…I don't use a wireless mouse. hate batteries

        • +9

@vid_ghost: What? You don't have a stockpile of Eneloops? No….

        • +15

Hand in your tight-ass badge and your pricing-gun, you're out.

      • +1

Most of my USB sticks are used for Live Linux distributions (e.g. they run off the stick).

Also, for such a big manufacturer it's a ridiculous design flaw (especially when there's advice to manufacturers saying they must ensure that the plugs are metal, as it acts as shielding).

    • i just bought 1 recently when they last had their sale, still havent used it though looks like any other usb

    • +2

FYI, I had a similar problem with another USB 3.0 device interfering with my logitech keyboard / mouse receiver, so the quickest cheapest and easiest solution I found was to buy a short USB extension cable and plug the receiver into that so that it could be moved away from the USB ports.

      • foil + duck tape?

        • +6

Is that what you use to tape ducks together?

  • +12

50% off Selected Inks, Laptops, Printers and Computer Accessories

    Can anyone select them ?

  • seems bigw online changed a lot lately. no more selling clothing. don't want to become predator to their own bigw stores, or simply downsizing?

    • I was under the impression they had just temporarily changed the site so you could only laybuy items from the toy sale. Then changing it back to all the items once it was over.

The recent change of frequent flyer points at bigW seemed like they were trying to push a lot more people to shop online too.

          but only selected ones

    • Which catalogue is that? In the link it only says : 50% off selected laptops

      • The home catalogue in the link.

    • +1

That 11.6" Leader with a slow CPU N2806 would be a slow performer, but if it would sell for half price @ $184 it could be good for students or as a second light, efficient mobile machine to leave on the coffee table or on the go. I doubt this one will be " SELECTED "

      • Hahaha. As it turns out, these were not reduced, full price.

  • +2

Does Big W even sell laptops?

    • +2

Yes. They usually do when it's back to school promo or end of financial year

    • I actually bought a Lenovo from them back in '07 (Yes, I'm an idiot).

They actually gave me an inferior model to the advertised one (bought it specifically for the fingerprint reader…didn't have it). To add insult to injury, its OS was Windows Vista. I was like this T_T the whole time I had it.

    • Thanks. The OP link wasn't working for me.

The MSI a6300 was ozbargained for about $238 more than 2 years ago, never had stock since. My kids love theirs, still going strong. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/65022 I dare say all the others are similar in long since gone. The only hope for those who need a laptop is they list some new ones when the sale starts. This post will go crazy if they do.

      • MSI is actually a good brand, and unlike Sony, Toshiba, HP and others, MSI actually makes their own computers. Not just contracting out and marketing them. Good luck finding stock though!

        • That's like saying MacBooks, iPhones, and Surface 3s are no good because Apple and MS don't own the manufacturing facilities.

        • Never heard anything good about MSI laptops ironically, always a case of 'when' they will die it seems

        • +4

"You have all heard of National Brand laptop's on the market today; such as Alienware/Dell, HP, Toshiba, Compaq and Sony. It may be surprising but none of these companies actually manufacture their own laptop's. These National Brand companies purchase their laptops from an ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) such as Clevo, Compal, Asus, MSI, Quanta, Wistron, Mitac, Arima and Inventec. The ODM's design & manufacture the machine and sell it to these National Brand companies as a barebones system. The National Brand companies then customize the system with Processors, Hard Drives, Ram, DVD Drive, Wireless, Bluetooth along with other internal accessories, then install a Microsoft Operating System and label it and market it as their own. Most of these National Brand companies force you to purchase a Microsoft Operating System regardless if you have one already or not."

          http://www.xoticpc.com/laptop-manufacturers-really-makes-lap…

        • +1

          @ozhunter68:
So MSI only manufactures good laptops for themselves? All these other ODMs produce inferior products?

None of the big brands design any of their laptops? Vaio Pro 11, Vaio Z, Vaio P, ThinkPad Yoga, Dell XPS 11, Portege Z10t - Sony, Lenovo, Dell, and Toshiba didn't have any part to play in the design of those laptops?

          OK then.

        • @eug: you forgot Asus and gigabyte

        • +1

"Most of these National Brand companies force you to purchase a Microsoft Operating System regardless if you have one already or not."

For the VAST majority of buyers this is an absolutely pointless and nonsensical observation. Would be a huge surprise to 99.9% (conservative estimate) of consumers if any computer brand DIDN'T sell you a device with a "Microsoft Operating System".

        • What you say is correct EUG. I was not saying that other brands were not good, merely stating that MSI computers are also not known to be bad or inferior if you like. Like most laptop manufacturers or ODMs, they sell average low cost models as well as good to great rigs.

      • +6

LOL. I like that. I'm 2 years, 4 months, and 3 days too late for the deal. Normally I'm seconds late. They expire whilst I'm paying.

I'll check my local store tomorrow. To my knowledge they only sell the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Laptop. I'm hoping for something with a faster processor.

        • laugh & learn laptop? haha!
we can all hope, but deep down we know BigW and other generic retailers love to stock the cheapest lower spec laptop models with the Intel Celery cpu and UMA(Underwhelming iMage performAnce) graphics…

        • @morpheu:

          laugh & learn laptop? haha!

          So what did you learn?

        • Buying a laptop from BigW is a $200 lucky dip.

        • +2

@eug: that come tomorrow hopefully i can buy a nice half price laptop from BigW and finally throw away my Speak & Spell!

  • +5

Its a full time job chasing ozbargains!

  • +4

Guys, if you are not sure whether the products you're after will be on sale or not on 10th of July, just come on the 8th and ask to put them on hold.

If the items are full price on the 8th then they will put it on hold for 48 hours so less chance of getting out of stock if the products do go on sale on the 10th

    • I guess every big w is different. We only hold for 24 hours

  • +1

I will have to pop into Big W, considering I have $800 of wish giftcards.
Hopefully their is some decent laptops floating around.

  • +1

Rubbish on laptops! All out of stock now!!!

    • Sale Starts tomorrow. In Store only :)
