40,000 Emirates FF Miles with Emirates Citibank World Mastercard (Lower First Year Annual Fee)

40

I am not suggesting that this is better than other credit card deals, but it may suit certain people better. In summary; 40,000 Bonus Emirates Skywards FF miles(1st Spend within 3 Months 15,000 miles Bonus, Spend $6k within 3 Months for maximum total of 40K miles). Earning 1 mile per $1 spent Aust. 1.5 miles per $1 spent overseas (note high fees for overseas transactions), 2 miles per $1 spent at emirates.com. $149 annual fee for first year, and then $299 p.a.. I think that this is the same earnings rate as Emirates Citi Platinum but the latter's annual fee is $249. 2 Emirates lounge passes per year, and return Limo once per year to Emirates flight (distance limit applies). Note recently I was told by Citibank that if you have applied for credit with Citibank in the last 12 months, then they will not approve more credit to you.

  • $6000 spend kills the bargain!

    • its over 3 months…. and easy to do if you are paying rent in sydney metro.

        Do many places accept credit card for rent payment? Thought many didn't.

        • there's some scheme you can sign up for. eg. https://rentalrewards.com.au/

          there is a fee.

        • Very expensive fees. And very hard to find what they are. e.g. Amex showed $12 + 1.1% of the value per transaction, plus $5 per month. Visa changed $12 to $5.

          @slowmo:

          As Gav mentioned above, it appears there is no page which clearly shows all the fees/charges.

          I had to Google it to find a couple of experiences and some fees.

          Not worth it at all, considering even the 'best' rate of return you'd usually get from a credit card is probably no greater than 1.5%.

        • @illumination: agree that the fees sucks. i'm just suggesting that possibility to pay with rent. besides, it's a good deal to get the points 'for free' with the fees you pay with them (if you have issues trying to clock that 6k/3mth).

          have to work it out if its viable for you. afaik, rental contracts run 6mths sometimes. so you can always change it afterwards. if i knew of this offer… i would've jumped on it.. as i just made a 3k order for a washer and a dryer to replace the current ones.

          @slowmo:

          Yes fair enough. I got really excited when you posted that link initially, but had a gut feeling that the fees would be too high.

          Also agree though that it would be worth it if you need to hit such a spend threshold for bonus points that it is still worth it to pay the fees (if you have no other way to crack the threshold).

    This card used to be good. Then they went and changed the number of FF points you get per $ from 1.5 to 1. Not to mention Emirates also increasing(almost doubling) the number of points you need before you can get a free ticket. Then add to the fact that before once you got a free ticket the tax was only $190 now(after joining Qantas) its ~$600—Almost half the price of a ticket.

      most airlines are guilty of this… quantas is no better.. it's became a moving target ever since they put the points into retails.

  • IMHO This deal would more suit people who are likely to want to fly Emirates, and are willing to scrap the card before the 12 months is up. For the first year for $149 you get 2 lounge passes and a free limo to and from the airport once p.a. for an Emirates flight. Additionally a 15,000 Skywards miles bonus is very easy to get. But if you can spend $6000 within 3 months you get 40,000 Skywards miles bonus. FF points are always better value if used for upgrades. It used to cost about 30,000 for an EK upgrade to business class for Bangkok to Sydney. Giving you lounge access in Bkk, and top quality lay flat seat/bed. After the first year, I doubt that this card is your best option.
