  • How do I get free shipping? They're charging me $4.

  • +7

JBHifi will price match instore. Did so yesterday at Macquarie Centre.

    • What did you show them to get the price?

      • just tell them DS selling it for $39 with the coupon

        • +8

Doesn't mean they "will". A lot of them will still say no

        • -5

@Rookie117: So what's your point? just go to another JBHifi or ask another sales staff there. Not too hard, is it?
Failing that, just get it online through DSE.

        • +11

@sol95: Yeah, cause it is "not too hard" to just go to random JB's till you maybe find one that will do it… Not everyone has multiple JB's near them, let alone the time/fuel to say maybe 5 bucks? Is that a good enough point for you?

        • -6

@Rookie117: reread what you posted - you just agreed with me that going to another jbhifi is "not too hard"! :P

on the other hand, if you meant it is too hard for you, that's still not a good enough point. You're being pedantic about my use of "will", even though you have no way to verify your claim that "a lot will say no". Did you actually go instore to try? Well, I did. And the first store, and the first salesperson I asked said no problem. I suggested another option of getting this deal with the product in hand straight away without having to wait for delivery.

          @Rookie117:
Use that magical invention called the mobile phone.
          Quicker than walking.

      • Just showed the DSE website with chromecast price and the $10 off blurb. I was expecting a no as it's almost a 20% discount. But the guy had no issues and I was out in less than 5 minutes.

    • +1

Share the reciept so it will be easier for wny jb store to price match.

    • +1

Also just got it price matched at Macquarie Centre, JB Hi-Fi today. Plenty of stock.

The nice gentleman who served me didn't check or ask for proof. I'm guessing that's because I'm not the first customer to ask - thanks, sol95.

  • Not free delivery any more, I guess.

  • Can Chromecast run Hulu & Netflix ?

  • +1

Personally, this will become an everyday price after a 2nd generation is released.

  • Is there a new Chromecast coming out this year?

    • No but Android TV will.

      • +3

Android tv is an OS for tv's rather than a separate add on device. I'm interested in knowing if there is a new chromecast device schedule for release this year.

  • Pity. Yesterday this was $39 delivered from Dick Smith. Most people should have already bought it from that deal.

  • There are generic versions on ebay a lot cheaper. They claim to do exactly the same thing. Anyone had any experience with these?

    • Those ones require you to use a special app generally and it is more like a miracast adaptor than Chromecast. Problem is that unless you use the miracast function, you are limited to the app they provided.

I have one, but I don't use it anymore.

      • +3

So if I have a chromecast. I can stream 1080P video files from my laptop to my TV and still use my laptop to do other things at the same time? Or is it only online content?

        • You can stream videos using apps like Plex, though the few 1080p vids I tried last night lagged on an 802.11n network.

EDIT: Did some research. It's probably due to the need for transcoding. If you have MP4's your supposed to be fine. source

    • +1

At $49 (or $39 sale price) I don't see the point of buying cheap generic version from eBay, unless those cost no more than $10.

  • These worth picking up yet, or wait for Android L?

  • If they're continuing to offer these for sale, does that mean they have enough stock to ship all of yesterday's orders (when the shipping was free)? Because I have a lot of doubts they will, based on the amount of upvotes and clicks.

    • Don't know about other people but my order from yesterday has been shipped already. I ordered at around 70 votes on yesterdays deal.

      • The key thing is you were in the first 70.

There ended up being over 10,000 clicks and over 600 upvotes.

  • +7

I just asked jb hifi to price match and picked one up just now.

    Go forth fellow ozbargainers!

    • thanks@paul_5666

  • I just tried online, it was $39 including delivery.

  • -1

I as well just ordered and it was 39$ with free delivery.

  • I wasn't charged shipping.

    • Shipping is free for me too

  • delivery is still free.. this is a duplicate

    • Yes it is free now, but it wasn't yesterday afternoon when I checked after coming too late for the previous deal.

  • Got one from JB for $38 yesterday after price-match.

  • Should I get another one?

    • +1

Of course you should. This is OZB. You have to.

  • Got one from Dick Smith store for $39 he said he doesn't normally price match online but the computer let's him do it. It also says $49 on the dse website now so I just showed him the oz bargain site. Winning.

    • It shows 49 because you have to enter the code to get the discount.. its not pre-discounted.. also OP the shipping is still free.

      • -1

Haha I had a man read. Oh well. Got a new toy for the weekend.

  • +1

Dick smith parramatta Westfield sold out but would match anyway, David jones Westfield (dick smith electroncs section) would not match price instore even after showing the deal on here, jbhifi up on level 5 price matched no questions asked.

  • +1

Don't know what I did right but I got free shipping. Just paid $39.

  • +1

Yep. Got the super10 code to work with free shipping still. Seems to go on and off. So $39 delivered, that price made me pull the trigger.

  • What's the benefit of using one of these vs just putting your media files on a usb and playing it through your tv?

  • +1

    It is Free Shipping.

  • +1

Seems that Dick Smith have free postage on the Chromecast still.

Rather similar to my post then which is now active again.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/152351

Hard to know if they will still have stock though..

  • Same price when i went to jb pitt street yesterday.

    • Good for the many people not far from stores, but free delivery on these impulsive sales is really handy for those of us that live regional or rural. My closest Dick Smith/JB Hi Fi/Harvey Norman/Big W etc is half an hours drive away. To put it another way the fuel is +- $ 18 return for me.

      • 1h drive for 18 bucks. Gotta sell that tractor

  • As I said in last deal what does this do compared to say Apple TV,I have two Apple tv's set up in house in two rooms and maybe setting out another TV in bedroom what can this do from me or say compared to a Apple TV?

    • +2

Its much cheaper I guess. And not as restricted to Apple Platform.

  • +2

I succumbed to the lure of the discount and got (another) one. This time, I am not going to update it right away (which removes the ability to relash with custom firmware) and will try and get e.g. Eureka ROM or some such running on it

I just bought one and it said Free delivery for me, all paid for $39

  • They switched to free shipping. Was `5$ shipping fee this morning
    Just bought one:
    Shipping & Handling (Standard) $0
    Tax $3.55
    Grand Total Incl. Tax $39

    • +1

Those who ordered it this morning might feel ripped off now that they find if they waited they didn't have to pay postage.

    • I second that motion

  • I guess op saw my comment from nearly 11 hours ago and decided to post the deal (4 hours b4 this was posted) thanks for no credit. JA

    Let the negs begin!

  • +1

Finally decided to buy one purely because everyone was giving this deal and yesterday's deal positive votes.

Not quite sure how to use this but hoping I can stream stuff off my NAS to the TV via my LG G2.

    • +3

I have a Synology NAS, and the smartphone apps do support Chromecast, allowing you to stream media from your NAS. It was a bit limited when I tried it, for example not supporting DTS audio.

I don't know if any other NAS manufacturers support this, but presumably the likes of Qnap etc will follow suite.

However Chromecast's strength is for playing Internet content. Particularly so for the Google content (YouTube and Google movies & TV) which uses excellent compression algorithms for high quality video).

  • -3

    Yawwwn! Next deal..plz

  • These will be worth peanuts very quickly, not going to rush. Will stick with the NAS and xboxs. Play to them via skifta, YouTube pushes not an issue either

    • Dammit! I had to go to my bank manager to get a personal loan for the $39.

      • It's not the cost, just that I've got lots of stuff that kinda does this. Will have a play when as I said, they're worth peanuts. Which won't be long.

  • Awesome price, going to grab my third.

  • I have been contemplating this since the last deal posted.

Can this be used on holiday unit TVs and play offline AVI/MKV files from my laptop wirelessly if I set up a network only using my laptop and this unit using Plex, and not needing to bring a router?

I would imagine then using an android phone to control it remotely?

    Cheers.

PS. Currently using a Lenovo android tablet, connecting via HDMI to holiday unit's TVs but this would be so much less cumbersome. Otherwise I'd probably be bringing my ASUS mini media player next time.

  • anyone who has ordered today - any confirmed shipping yet ?
    yesterdays were shipped immediately.

    • They were?

I ordered yesterday, it's still showing "Awaiting Fulfillment" under my account.

  • Still showing as Free Delivery for me (at the PayPal payment stage)

    • Free shipping for me too just now.

  • Just got free shipping and order acknowledgement.

  • does it has built in WiFi?

    • No. For the initial setup it creates a WiFi hotspot that you connect your phone, tablet or PC to. You then configure the SSID and password for your home WiFi network.

    • Yes it does have built in WiFi. It uses WiFi to establish comms to a local network. This is the only way it communicates to the outside world. There are no cable sockets.

  • +2

still $39 with Free Delivery for me, thanks op

    • Yep. Don't know why it's marked as expired. $39 including free shipping

  • Looks like the page was taken down lol.

    • +1

Meanwhile, the ordered remain "awaiting fulfillment" at 15/07; I'm guessing Dick's way of communicating 'product on re-order thank you for a prompt transfer'. Could've gone JB.

  • I went into JB today and they're still pricematching (after I showed them the two receipts uploaded by Sol95 & Paul_5666)
