Same as all the other deals, with the added bonus of buying once and using on both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 devices. For a 'limited time'.

As part of the minority who use a W8 tablet and a WP8.1 phone, this is kick ass!

Thank you so much, was looking at this app yesterday, and installed the server. Held off on buying the app in the hopes of a sale to match the iOS one.

Any value over the browser on a PC/laptop?

IMO, there's no point purchasing it unless you're on a tablet or planning to purchase a tablet. You can download the free desktop application here - https://plex.tv/downloads ("Plex Home Theater" not the media server). And even that desktop app should be perfectly usable on a tablet too. Unless this modern UI app has certain extra features I'm not aware of, though I doubt it.

  • Anyone know if I can purchase the app without a Windows Phone or Windows 8.1 installed? I'll probably use it in the future, but for now I've just got a Mac

Edit: Purchased from Windows Phone store instead at http://www.windowsphone.com/en-au/store/app/plex/4854f786-ea…

  • I thought plex was always free for windows 8? I have been using plex and plex media server for free for years on my pc.

    • This is for the actual app in metro start screen

  • nice, I heard that plex was good to push media to the playstation 4 (since currently the PS4 sucks for streaming local content)

    • Yes it does it via the browers. It's ok but can be alittle annoying when making the content pull screen etc but it does bypass cinavia atm. If your TV isn't a recent Samsung smart TV a chromecast will be a better option paired with plex media server

  • Does anyone have an opinion on how this compares to something TVersity? Particularly for PS3 and PS4. I am currently using TVersity to stream to my W8.1 laptop/PS3 and I keep having difficulties with files stored different locations on my many hard drives. Having lost my licencing information for this product this might be a new solution.

tl;dr: Good for PS3/PS4 local streaming? Better than TVersity?

  • if i already have plex pass (lifetime subscription), is this not already free for Win8?
