Went to Dicksmith today and took 2 smart cover for ipad mini for only $20: 10$/each.It is Apple genuine and new type. There were plenty at Waurn Pond Geelong. It was not marked as sale off or clearance. Just a white price tag

With a 20% off code which was used with Kogan's eBay group deal which got a 1st gen iPad Mini 16GB down to $200.
i checked the DSE in City Sydney and they're still the original price. :-(

Just bring it back to Apple store. They will fix it for you.

new is only 0.03mm thicker so I guess it should fit.

Might be certain colours only or certain stores. I went to Garden City, WA and the Black, Blue and Red are all still $39.95.

I went to two DSE branches in the Melb CBD and one was stocking these for $39.99 and the other for $80!
The $80 one is smart 'case' front and back and full leather.
take the photo attached to bigw or officeworks for extra 5%.
Went to Perth large store and bought a green, red and grey. Apparently only those in the clearance bin are $10 each but for the same colours hanging on the shelf are $40. Don't know why (different batch?) if you are interested just ask them to scan for you.

Just went to Officeworks. NO price match as it's not an advertised price. Advised a receipt isn't 'advertised'.
Note that these are old "End of Line" models only. They look almost identical to the new ones but the design on the back of the box is different. Only the old models are $10 - the new ones are $40. The old model box has a picture of a blue ipad cover lifted up off a black ipad - the new model has just the cover lying flat on a silvery coloured ipad.
Few left at Highpoint Victoria and only red/green.
I was told there are also normal sized ipad smart covers also for $10 in a variety of colours.
This is store specific - not a nationwide sale just normal pricing for soon-to-cease stock.edit: thanks OP good find. works great with my $200 ipad mini.
Correct. Model numbers start with MD whereas the new ones start with MF, I think
