Ugh I'm getting old. I clicked on the link and I get the same info as posted above. Can't work out what it is? Is it remote Phone access to turning off power switch ? Ozbargain used to be very clear, nowadays Ozbargainers are so savvy with technology that I have no idea what half the deals are about as its all assumed.

      Hi grasstown,

Simply put, you plug this device into a wall socket, then you plug an appliance (such as a lamp or fan) into it, which can then be controlled (on/off) from your phone, laptop or computer. It also tells you how much energy that appliance is consuming.

FYI you will need a z-wave controller, such as the VeraLite, to control this product.

      Cheers

    • Check out the VeraLite and Android demo.

  • Is this device smart enough to report the direction of energy flow?

Was wondering if it can be used with a small plug in grid tie inverter/charger which both uses and supplies power.

    • It is not smart enough to do that.

      • Sorry, that one was only valid for a week from when it was posted on Facebook. Each week we put new deals on our Facebook.

    This thing's $68, and needs a Z-wave controller.

The Belkin WeMo is $53 and works over WiFi.

I guess if you have a z-wave controller already, this might be a bargain?

It is a bargain for the specific product. You're comparing it to a completely different product..

    • Yes, much different to using a device over WiFi.

WiFi can be good if you just want to connect several devices in you house :)

Home automation requires a different type of network to run effectively, especially when you have many devices.

    • WeMo doesn't report on energy usage though

  • Quick question, are these "narrow" enough to fit two side by side in a double plug plate?

    • The maximum width is 54mm. So most double plates won't fit two next to each other, but you fit a normal plug easily next to it as there is lip where it plugs in. The alternative is the In-Line Smart Energy Switch.

        Or a double adapter..
