For anyone considering this, I bought a Semak "Vita Juice", which is basically the same design as this, and from my research previously I think the Hurom is a quality brand too.

I frequently use it to blend up vegetables for before brekkie bulk nutrients. Mostly carrot, celery, beetroot, ginger, and I add some powdered healthy grasses & algae such as barley / wheat grass, spirulina / correla. I actually love the slightly bitter bland taste, and feel great in the mornings (better than when I was a slave to the morning coffee, this has pushed my coffee back to elevensies).

I upgraded from a $30 cheapo centrifugal blender (the noisy 'fast' blenders). The cold press makes nicer tasting juice, that seems to store alot better (so I dont worry about the 3 minute rule of trying to drink the juice as close to fresh as possible), and it's quiet so I can make a batch late at night for a few days supply.

I'm super glad I bought my cold press juicer, it is a fun process, and there isnt alot of work required to get a good amount of juice. A little bit of cutting, and it does juice a little slower, but theres alot of satisfying crunching noises as you mix up your fruit or vegies.

Further more I have found some great bottles to keep the juice sealed in, and in the clear colour they allow you to see the fruits (or veg) of your labour.

Enough yakking, juicing is something I hope to do forever now that I am hooked.

  • If you aren't already a juicer, I recommend staying away. Juicing takes out the fibre. Yes you get most of the nutrients and calories but none of the fibre and none of the long last energy from having fresh fruit and vegetables for breakfast (or whenever)

Juicing isn't bad per-se, it's that 99.9% of people don't need that huge amount of calories for a simple drink.
Think about it, would you on a normal day, sit down and eat an orange, 2 apples and a carrot as a snack?? Let alone a drink.

I recommend you instead google "green smoothies" go deep into the internet for a couple of hours, read up on them and have those instead. You waste less since you're not throwing anything away, you're filled longer, there's less calories and a more reasonable breakfast.

    My current breakfast is
    1/8'th of a beetroot
1.5 cubic inches ginger (skin on)
1/2 small lemon, washed thoroughly (skin on,…. yes,… that's skin on the lemon)
    3 leaves kale
    2 brussel sprouts
3 blocks of frozen spinach (99c for 6 @ Aldi)
1/2 banana or tablespoon dried goji berries depending on my preferred sweetening agent
    1/4 of an avocado

Believe it or not, I can wash, blend, pour and wash the blending jug for all that in about 5 minutes. Except unlike a bowl of cereal, I can walk around the house and drink it out of a glass with a straw at my own leisure

Juicing is a fad which I recommend you do only if you're a hard.core athlete, like proper, proper fit and you need even more nutrients and calories in your life for a short burst of energy. Juicing is the closest thing to "natures chocolate bar" as you're gonna get, especially if you make a sweet one.
    Fibre, it's good for you.

Now what we need is an Omniblend OzBargain deal, I got mine for like $220, I think thanks to this site, 2 years ago! damn cheap.

  • Yes it's true that juicing fruit is basically a sugar bomb, that's why there is a trend from juicers to eat your fruit and drink some bonus vegies.

I have an Omniblend, lol, and although its good, it dosnt get alot of use from me.

Why? For starters I find the taste of green smoothies alot more difficult to stomach than a random juice mix.

You need to be precise about mixing different things.

When I do blend, it's a boring old mix of frozen banana chunks, an apple, some milk, some oats and some greens powder (Ultimate meal). More of a meal than a drink.

I dont use the 3hp blender for many other tasks, and it is overkill for what I use it for, a $35 blend2go would make up my green smoothy for me.

(lol and edit from my 1st post, "noisy fast centrefugal blender I meant juicer, like the cheapo breville juicers from 10 years ago").

And as for juicers taking out the fibre, you can add a small amount of the pulp back into the drink, or some people even eat it raw.

    • There's 3 key secrets which makes almost any vegie smoothie much, much tastier

      COLD
      THICK STRAW
      Lemon

Seriously, it's like night and day.

  • I ordered one. Delivery take long? It was said 2 to 4 weeks. That's pretty long.
