And you know they are real apple how?

    • Because they carefully chose those words fakers use "Apple designed" rather than Apple EarPods ;-)

        • +2

These could also be "Designed by Apple" and copied by a factory in 深圳
          ;-)

          But wait…
Groupon would never do that :p

        • @oz-dave: Haven't used Groupon before. Do they have a history of selling fakes off as genuine products? Do fellow OzBargainers think it's likely these are fakes?

        • +1

@Daneish: yes theyre fake, dont buy them

        • @furythree: Thanks for your reply furythree. I purchased these earlier today and am now concerned about their authenticity. Are you able to elaborate on what makes you say they would be fake?

        • +3

          @Daneish:

Yes, they appear to have a history of selling fake products including Apple…
This video is a bit shaky and long-winded but it shows the difference between the genuine Apple ones and the fake ones purchased from groupon.

They also appear to have been selling fake lifeproof cases for Apple products, that in many instances leaked, and when people tried to claim warranty with lifeproof, they were informed they didn't have serial numbers and weren't genuine. (Read the comments section).

All around the world you will find examples of groupon fakes, including the rather serious issue of fake vitamins described here in the Philippines.

People also claim that Groupon seem to have been charging big bucks for fake brand name products and then delivering low quality fakes like the Gucci products described here, including this quote "I have just received my gucci bag after purchasing it from Groupon - Australia division five weeks ago. It is a fake unfortunately. Very obvious fake and very poorly made. I paid $1275 for it!" or the Ray Ban Aviator sunglasses described in Canada's version of OzBargain

        • @oz-dave:
Thanks very much for your detailed reply oz-dave! I managed to get through the YouTube clip, you weren't wrong about it being long winded :) But it did mention some good points. I have a pair of genuine EarPods I can compare them to when they ship.
The other links also indicates that Groupon worldwide has had a history of non-genuine products in the past.

I have posted on the Groupon Australia's Facebook page, as well as contacted them via their web form asking them to confirm the authenticity of the product and details of their return policy if it is found to be fake. I'm not sure how much this will help though.

Would the opinion of yourself (or any other members of the OzB community) that I should cancel my order now and attempt to obtain a refund, or wait until the product ships and thoroughly evaluate the product for signs of inauthenticity, before seeking a refund (if required)?

        • @Daneish:

What a strange response you got on facebook ?!@#$%^&*?
They didn't actually say there were genuine or say you could get a refund if they were fake…

        • @Daneish: i have stopped shopping via Groupon and unsubscribed to their emails.

        • @oz-dave: It was. Their response via email was also similarly vague. Their second response on Facebook was more helpful though:

As Pearl mentioned, all deals go through a rigorous Quality Assurance process before appearing on the site. We have discussed this with our Risk and Compliance officer, who has assessed a sample here in the office and can confirm that this is a genuine Apple product.

We trust that you will love this product but if you have any concerns upon receiving it, please do let us know.

I'm sure $25 can get you a better pair of earphones than these…

  • many on ebay from $1 delivered. Personally could not tell the difference.

    • Link?
Looking to get some better value "fake" earpod.

  • +1

Apple designed - made in China. No different to "designed in Australia".

    • just like the new 2017 Holden

  • Takes three weeks to ship?

  • Who would actually go out and buy these? They are terrible.

    • Apple fanboys… Oh and Apple fangirls…

  • Better buy other aftermarket brands

I buy all my earphones from these guys (simplecom on ebay), they sell genuine sennheisers and apple earpods and much more, shoutout to them. You can buy a genuine apple earpod for only $19.95 free postage. Located in Australia so fast postage too.
