Great 27" IPS monitors. 2560x1440, we have a lot in our office, really really like it.

Can't go wrong with Dell. It's IPS too! I have a cheap unknown brand 'knockoff' version of this and even that looks really good. It's nice having a monitor that makes you go "oh wow, this looks great!" when all your viewing is ozbargain.com.au :D

    • +1

Where did you get it from/how much did it cost?

      • +3

For egs. those monitors on ebay. Unfortunately they're not worth their price anymore. Now, I would rather get an A+ Dell panel with peace of mind on returns.

      • +2

I'm assuming he means the B-grade monitors for ~$350 delivered from Korea. Can be found all over ebay, take a look at this previous deal:

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/152290

otherwise whirlpool has a big thread on these sorts of monitors too

You linked to my post! (´・ω・`)

The monitor is great by the way! Easy over clock to 96Hz in minutes and great colours. A bit of backlight bleed on maximum brightness from awkward angles but isn't noticeable when it's facing you. Stand is meh but it works and is very stable. Only complaint is the bezel being a little to big but I'm only using one monitor so I can put up with it. They don't tell you straight up but the monitor actually has speakers! Very weak ones but they work:)

I bought one of these in the 15% off Ebay sale and never been happier!

    • +9

Geez man you need to get out more :P

      • +20

Don't believe the hype. There is nothing out there man! Promise. It's all war and chaos… stay home, stay safe.

        • Go step outside - the graphics are amazing !

  • This is the price I got mine for.
Amazing monitor, but I have 1 stuck green pixel in the middle. Does anybody know the stuck/dead pixel policy on these bad boys?
    Thanks!

    • +7

      From Dell:

If you experience even a single bright pixel, you can receive a free panel exchange under Dell's Premium Panel Guarantee

Even if only one bright pixel is found on our select range of monitors, a free panel exchange is guaranteed during the Limited Hardware Warranty period. See pixel panel info located on Dell.com for complete details

So yah, call 'em up, and get your "new" panel shipped to you, I believe they exchange for your current one when it arrives.

      • +1

3 year Limited Hardware Warranty! OMG thanks TheContact!!

      • I've always wonder what the deal is with dark pixels though. That's almost as bad as a bright pixel.

        • +4

I'm pretty sure Dell understands that even the brightest and happiest of pixels can have dark days and should cover it either way.

        • @millionairebargainer: Don't a lot of manufacturers guarantee one thing with bright pixels and another with dead pixels though?

        • +1

@Dan_: Dell are one of those companies that pride themselves with good reputation though. I remember making an unorthodox (but rightful) claim and they went out of their way to reimburse me when they weren't even inclined to under their own terms. Love it. See, that experience made me write this here today and that contributes to them.

        • +1

With IPS, it is much more common to get black dead pixels. Therefore, the white bright pixel guarantee is pretty useless.

I had to return 2 Dell UltraSharp monitors due to multiple black dead pixels. I had to pay for the return postage because Dell felt 2 black dead pixels are "acceptable" so I had to use the 14-day customer satisfaction guarantee to return them (meaning paying for the return postage).

        • @netsurfer:
my green stuck pixel appeared after a year!

        • @netsurfer: You really need to complain harder next time to the extent they come pick it up from your doorstep. It's your right.

  • +5

Good price, however one thing to note is that Dell has sneakily increased the prices of most monitors. eg. U2412M used to be $399, now is $459.

    • +1

Yeah and these use to go for around $410 in the DFO store, even cheaper for refurbished models, I regret not getting one :(

    • +1

Dell are like socks, they go up, not down. Hehe, I think I'm funny today. Dell actually really do only settle for A+ components though and when you combine that with increasing production costs and the Aussie dollar, it'd be rare to go any other way really.

  • +7

i had a 30" dell U3011 monitor for just under 3 years.. complained about a stuck button… they sent me out a whole new monitor! :) then someone came to pick up the one with the stuck "on" button! .. cant beat that warranty

  • +1

Coming up on two years of me thinking "I'll get one of these when the price drops". Had no idea so much time had passed. Looks like wait's been in vain - never been lower than the $559 it started at in September 2012, and the last deal posted repeating that price was October 2013. It's actually been a bit more expensive since.

    • +1

Jabba buys monitor, tomorrow it drops to $200 on special. He misses the special.

  • +4

Hey Jabba, I'm assuming that the aussie dollar is not as strong these days :(
Also, if you are intending to use this monitor for photo editing, the LG AH-IPS panel they use only displays a colour gamut of up to 8-bit, as opposed to the U2711 which uses a 10bit P-IPS panel.

Also worth noting is that to display at the massive native resolution, you need DVI-I or Displayport. HDMI just won't work at that res.

    • So if you are interested in photo editing, what would be your alternative recommendation?

      • +2

U2713H (not HM) is also 10 bit, so would work for editing/print work

      • If colour fidelity is essential, try to get as wide a gamut as possible and a calibrator to keep it accurate (if the room in which you post process does not change in lighting much, you could perhaps get away with burrowing a calibrator from your uni or photography group and use the cash saved to get a nicer monitor)

The ridiculous resolution really helps with picking up detail and stepping through many shots in grid view in LR.

I bought mine a while ago and don't have an up-to-date knowledge on what's the best bang-for-buck monitor for photo editing.

I settled with the 8-bit screen, if you're interested in how it's helped me process colour please take a peek at my flickr :)
        http://www.flickr.com/spinferno/

        :)

      • Thanks for the help. Went ahead and ordered one!

    • I have a 2711 and and this 2713 side by side. The 2711 is better as far as colour goes, and it handles way more inputs. Dell cut some corners with the 2713, but it is still a good screen at this price.

      • The 2713H was the true replacement for the 2711 whereas the 2713HM was the model stripped of a few features to save about $150.

    • +2

Just so ya know, the 10bit colour only works with specific programs made for it i.e. photoshop and that's in conjuction with a 10bit GPU i.e. the firepro cards. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

  • Hi All,

I have been looking at this monitor for months. I intend to have 2x 27" setup.

My only issues is knowing that this 2713 model came out in 2012. I expect a 2715 to come out this year. However I am not sure whether that "multimedia" 1080p UZ2715H monitor is dell's response or a PROPER successor is coming soon. I know this is stupid, to wait for what you are not sure is coming but based on the pattern seems very likely.

    Dell's top range 27" monitors have been 2707wfp, 2709w, u2711, u2713hm,… u2715xx?

    • +1

in 2015 we will be seeing allot of 4k monitors from allot of companies out there…. i would wait! also 27" IPS 4k on its way from Dell thats blows away this one.

      • +1

Not interested in 4k, too much gfx power needed. 1440p suits me just fine.

Do you think there would be much else they would improve on?

  • +2

Using u2711 here, an older model. The only complaint I have is the 60hz. A marquee text does get difficult to read sometimes.

    • +2

+1 got the u2711 here too from when they were first released.
Great Monitor. Only annoyance is that its CCFL, so gets a bit warm which you can feel if your head is near the monitor… Power consumption is fairly killer on this old one too…

Would love to purchase this new one.. but what to do with the old one hahah..

      • but what to do with the old one hahah..

        Give it to me ;)

  • Would this be a good upgrade from my 2408wp from a few years back? Is this the widescreen version?

    • +2

Do you need the wider colour gamut of the 2408? If not, then yes. I run dual 2410s at work and a 2713 at home and I like everything about the 2713 more, the anti-glare coating is less aggressive so not as sparkly, doesn't run as warm, bigger with greater pixel density. I do miss the card reader though..

      Widescreen 16:9, 2560x1440.
If you want 16:10, then you'd have to get the 30" at 2560x1600.

  • Arrggg,I can't decide whether to get two of these or two of the u2412m's, they both seem great. Any recommendations?

I'd be mostly using it for games and browsing/watching videos

  • +1

For mainly gaming and general, would the

    BenQ GW2765HT 27in 2K IPS Gaming Monitor @ $499

    http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&c…

be a good contender, I cant find any info on it at all.

It has similar specs except the response Time: 4ms (grey to grey)instead of 8 on the dell.

I suppose the good aftercare with the dell would also need to be considered.

    Ta..

    • For gaming around that price I'd get a 120hz screen that can do the light boost strobe overclock

  • Can this be overclocked to over 100hz?

  • +3

I've done some research seems as though the only things coming in future monitors are 4k, higher Hz and slimmer bezels. Is there anything else? Are the panels themselves getting better in quality, colours, contrast?

If not I may just stop waiting and bite the bullet on this one.

    • +1

      Is there anything else?

      Some form of G-Sync/FreeSync/Adaptive-Sync.

      • Thanks for that link. Very good read.

However I can't see dell going down that route well at least not for the near future. I may just put up with my old 27"+24" odd setup until the 2715's come out.

I'm hoping that they are better in some way (other than pixel count).

  • got this over a year ago when it was on sale - would recommend

  • Can anybody tell me if this monitor will be good for games? Going by the the wire cutter review there is too much lag.

  • +1

I have this monitor and its Amazing, But the warranty that is some next level shit.

  • I have one of those at home (bought it in May when Dell was running another 30% off).

I really like the monitor, but it has problems coming out of sleep when using DisplayPort. When you put your computer to sleep and wake it up 10 minutes later the monitor won't turn on even though the computer is running happily.

And apparently I'm not the only one with this problem.

    http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2331155

    • Dude, I run it on displayport and that never happens! check your PC sleep settings or test out your displayport connection from another PC. If you still have no joy, remember that 3 year Limited Hardware Warranty!
      Good luck.

  • Has anyone here got a U2711 and a U2713HM side by side? I'm not asking for a comparison but I'm thinking of getting one of these and when dell release its 2015 successor to get one of those next to it. Just wonder since it would be same size should be ok, or are differences in image quality etc noticeable?

  • Dudes, what is your recommendation for affordable dual monitor desk arm that will hold this 27" monitor and a 24" monitor, preferably with the edges of both monitors lining up?

This Brateck LDT02-C024 ($69 pickup) looks nice but the monitors don't align up across the top.
    http://www.cplonline.com.au/brateck-ldt02-c024-monitor-table…

    Thanks!

  • Normally wouldn't pay this much for a monitor and I personally have never seen an IPS display at 1440p before.
But everyone here seems pretty confident its a good deal ;).
Hopefully a 2GB R9 270x is enough to push 1440p? Also I don't play with any anti aliasing if that helps and if anything I'll reduce shadow quality first.

Upgrading from a 5yo Acer 24" TN 1080p display lol.

  • Received mine yesterday, very happy with it.
Will wait for my next serious upgrade to go 4k, probably 2 years (already have 3 years on the current system, advantages of buying quality).
In the meantime this will do fine and without the need for a GPU upgrade :)

  • What's the best way to upgrade my system? It's not by all means outdated but showing ages for newer games.

    i7 2700k
    8gb ram
    hd6970 2g

    • Do you have a SSD for boot, apps and games?
Are you running the stock cooler?
How's your RAM situation? I've got 8GB with a i5 2500K, I don't game but I'm very close to the ceiling on my RAM at times.
I'd probably look at upgrading to a R9 290 or something comparable.
I'd stick with your current CPU though, at least for another year.

      • I can't believe we are still on the iCPU generation. When is the next true successor going to come out?

        • The i is just the branding.

  • Not a fan of the aspect ratio. Contrast ratio ain't that great either.

  • has it just dropped in price - seems to be showing as $573 now?

    • Yes. U2412m also dropped by $10 to $449 now.
