$2 Large Sundaes at Hungry Jacks' and Other Handy Tips and Tricks

3040

<MOD: The vouchers have expired on 12 August however the tips shared here are still useful>

Hey guys, similar to the deal posted by SnowDragon in regards to McDonalds, I’ll share my tips and tricks in regards to how to get the best deal (and service) at Hungry Jacks. I’ve been with the company for 8 years now so if you have any questions about the company or our burgers, please ask and I'd love to help you out as best I can.

  1. Use vouchers, always. They are excellent value and often save you 50% or more off of the original prices. (Please let your server know before you order that you’re using a voucher, especially if you’re going through drive-thru.)
    http://www.hungryjacks.com.au/vouchers/deals/download
Instead of getting the Mega Meal for $19.95, get two Whopper classics for $19.90 or two meal deals for two for $21.90.
Voucher Items Price
Mega Meal Whopper, Grilled Chicken, 2 Cheeseburgers, 4 Small Fries, 4 Small Drinks. $19.95
2 X Meal Deal for Two 2 Whoppers, 2 Tendercrisp, 4 Small Fries, 4 Small Drinks $21.90
2 X Whopper Classics 2 Whoppers, 2 Junior Whoppers, 4 Small Fries, 4 Small Drinks $19.90
  1. Cheaper way to get a Large Sundae.
    i. Large Sundaes used to be only $2 on the Penny Pinchers menu but they’ve been replaced with Storms (similar to a McFlurry, Oreos/Flake/MnM’s in a small frozen coke-sized cup with soft serve icecream. It does not cost any extra to add Chocolate/Caramel/Strawberry topping to your storm, therefore if you request a cookies and cream storm with chocolate topping you’ll get one of the most delicious things on the planet, it’s up to you whether or not you ask for no oreos to make it the equivalent of a Large Sundae.

  2. How to ensure you get fresh fries with the perfect amount of salt.
Ask for your fries no salt. This forces the people in the kitchen to cook a fresh basket of fries especially for you. (Just remember to ask your server for a few sachets of salt!)

  3. How to ensure you get a fresh burger every time.
Although Hungry Jacks’ has adopted a Make to Order burger making process, mistakes happen and sometimes people get burgers that aren't as fresh as they could be. Change just one thing on the burger, I like to add Angry Onions, they’re free and easy to pick off if you don’t actually want them. (Give them a go though, they’re delicious especially with Spicy Sauce.)

  4. Free Refills
Hungry Jacks' (at least all of the stores I've been to/worked at) allow for free refills on soft drinks and coffees! This allows you to save money on upgrading if you don't mind on getting a smaller serve of fries. (I am not sure all stores do this, your results may vary so check with your server first.)

  5. Dipping Sauces
Dipping Sauces are completely free, go ahead and ask your server for a few!

Sauce What it goes well with
Heinz Tomato Ketchup Fries or on your burger if you forgot to ask when you were ordering
BBQ Plum Sauce Nuggets, some people like it on the Bacon Deluxe to add a sweet element to the burger
Spicy Sauce I LOVE this sauce, it goes very well on our chicken burgers/nuggets and angry onions
Honey Mustard Nuggets, Onion Rings and Fries
Sweet and Sour Our most requested sauce, great with nuggets
Sweet Chili Dump it on any burger with mayonnaise

Disclaimer:
Take these tips with a grain of salt, I have no idea of how the person is serving you will act or allow these tips to work. I personally allow all of them but unfortunately I do not serve every single customer at Hungry Jacks. If you have an issue consult the manager on shift.

Also, this is my first time posting on OzBargain, please be gentle. If I remember more tips I will definitely share them with you all.

          @danyool:

You can request your burger be extra hot when ordering, there is a button on the register for it and everything. :)

  • Thanks OP, got angry onions and beetroot added to my vouchered bacon deluxes for free! They had no pineapple though… when do you have pineapple?

    • Good to know someone actually got use out of these tips!

Pineapple is a promotional ingredient, typically with the tropical whopper. Summer time is your best bet for that promo.

  • Lovin the tips man. Just a question on the $2 Cheeseburger thing though. When I asked for it with all the salads they said I could only get "one" of lettuce/tomato/onions? And if I wanted Angry Onions it would be 50c extra? I've gotten Angry Onions on whoppers/etc for free before so i thought it was the type of burger. But looking at other people that doesn't seem to be the case.

Just curiously, what's the proper way to ask for this (since you mentioned in the other deal, that this would just annoy the hell out of the cashier) or is there an official policy where we can view this?

      Ugh, more inconsistencies.

There is no "one salad item" rule in a corporate Hungry Jacks store. You're meant to "have it your way".

I would have absolutely no problem serving you this way:

"May I please have a BBQ Cheeseburger with Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and Angry Onions?"

  • Hey McScotty… Are the burger items available separately, like in the McDonalds threads (and is there anything worth getting)? - i.e. Like the McDonalds chicken patty - my wife grabbed a couple of those today because we were having a late lunch. She grilled some bacon and cheese on it, added salad & BBQ sauce. Nice and quick late lunch.

    • We definitely sell our patties on their own! No problems at all. The Grilled chicken patties are really good on their own.

      • Thanks - yeah, I wasn't clear before - we rarely go to HJ because there isn't one nearby. (That's why I asked what was worth getting.)

        How much are the patties?

  • I replaced the small fries in a meal with onion rings at one store last week and was charged 60 cents. Was at another one around a week later and got charged something like $1.30. There doesn't seem to be much uniformity.

    • All of the stores I've worked at (all corporate) have been 60 cents to change to onion rings.

I think the price to change increases with size though, I'll have to check next time I'm at work.

I agree about the lack of uniformity, it's a real shame and I had no idea how bad it was until you guys started asking me.

      • I think the price to change increases with size though

That would make sense, but both were for small swaps.

  • I love HJ's, but a year or so ago my partner and I dined in at one of the eastern suburbs stores in melb

The meal wasnt up to scratch and the place felt really "dirty", so halfway through the meal we left, and i ended up throwing out the rest of the burger as i just could not stomach it.

I later looked up the website and put a polite and constructive complaint/feedback in writing.

Was amazed by the response, the district manager? replied telling me in an agressive manner they reviewed the security camera footage from the time/day we ate in and i was on video enjoying the meal, before leaving with my wife.

I wrote back and explained i found it hard to beleive they kept security footage and it was that accessible, and if they used it on all their customers to judge how good the food it, and that i know for sure (if they had footage at all) that they made it up, because my partner was male (same sex) lol !! - not my wife!

I just got rude and abusive responses back, i tried to take it further but HJ's didnt seem to want to know, this person was apparently the highest you could go.

Also some stores charge for the dipping sauces (50c) even when you buy nuggets.

And I'll never forget the time a store had $2 whoppers advertised but refused to sell it for that price, showing me some message on a phone saying they did not have to comply, asked who to complain to, to get a record of it logged and they told me to get lost

I stopped eating HJ for about a year as i vowed never to return, too many experiences like that where they treated you like you were trying to scam them! and only just began eating it this last few months, If only HJ could get the customer service to the standard of mcdonalds, and consistent across stores. The good thing about mcdonalds, you know what you will get and if they fail, no fuss replacement Cant say i have ever had a problem rectified when buying from HJ's

    • What suburb?

      • bayswater north/kilsyth?

    • They must have had a lot of complaints about cleanliness as they seem cleaner these days… well, clean for a fast food shop staffed by young'uns.

  • Legend!
The receipt/grill slip was about 3 foot long, and my stomach was distended.
    Happy food coma.

    2 storms.
1 triple cheeseburger, angry onions +the lot
3 double cheeseburgers, angry + the lot
    3 x dipping sauce.
    (between two people)
$17 for the lot. Damn those triple cheeseburgers are wicked big.

Only issues is they forgot the dipping sauce, forgot the choc topping on the storm and only had flake.

    Hungry Hacks for the win!

  • Put extra salads on my burger today, but went back for a refill and said no only coffees. HJ City Cross SA

  • Just for everyone's info. I bought two $1 cheeseburgers at 12.30pm today with angry onions at HJs City Cross (Adelaide). No hesitation. Will try to include lettuce and tomato tomorrow as well. :)

  • Just tried the large sundae at Canningvale Perth and the child on the till said they don't offer any modification to the storm (no chocolate sauce etc).
I'm sure I could have pushed to speak to the manager but didn't feel it was worth the effort.
Anyone else from Perth have any success??

  • Voucher expired.

  • $2 sundae trick did not work at Hungry Jacks Glen Osmond - they charged me an extra 60 cents for the sauce.

However, I had a caramel + flake storm and it was bloody awesome. Not sure it's worth $2.60 though.

  • Looks like the free salads onto the Penny Pinchers items is over. HJ Karingal would not do it, and the manager said it is a Company store not a Franchisee. Understandable but disappointing, I wish that salads could be added for a reasonable price eg: 25-40c each, or having no Bacon on a regular menu item would yield a discount in return for those who don't want it.
