  • Ugh, if this had a stylus I would be all over it. Wish MS would hurry up and release something concrete about a new model (whether or not it exists and is still planned for release would be enough).

    • You can use a capacitive stylus (sold separately) with Surface RT and Surface 2. Capacitive means a pen that substitutes for your finger on a touchscreen. Neither Surface Pen nor Pro Pen can be used with Surface RT or Surface 2.
      Don't know if that helps

Yeah, nah. Capacitive is nothing compared to an N-Trig or Wacom active digitiser .

The Surface 3 is already available…

The Surface Pro 3 is. There is no Surface 3. Yet

          media suggesting October for Surface3.

  • I'm just not sure these are worth their price even on special truthfully. I got given a Vivobook RT a few years back, and at first I thought it was cool, but within a few months Microsoft's "updates" had caused my Google Apps synching to stop working, you can ONLY use Internet Explorer as a browser, and can only use stuff from the Windows Store.

I know the Microsoft Surface is different hardware, but underneath it's the same OS.

Just to let everyone know I found it so EXTREMELY limiting on what you can do with them. WORSE than an iPad. At least Apple understand some people use services other than Apple ones such as Google whereas Microsoft more and more is FORCING people into their services.

I have no problem with the Surface Pro, as you can still do anything you like with them, but the walled garden that is the Surface I found to be extremely disappointing.

Just some feedback before you splurge $400.

    • I was frustrated by the IE integration on my Win8 tablet as well. Still find it the best tablet OS for business use though.

    • Dad got talked into buying a Surface RT a while back, the hardware is great but Windows RT is garbage if you have specific needs like he did (required certain ebook software and specific audio tools).

Being locked in with such a limited number of apps was incredibly frustrating, when I set it up for him VLC wasn't even available (believe it is now though).

I'd be more inclined to think it's Google changing APIs that's breaking your syncing. While MS would love you to use their services, they know they need to support Google services if their gonna get anyone on their platforms at all.

That said, I would be very hesitant to recommend a WinRT device to anyone..

This is a bargain - use this as my laptop and tablet replacement. For work use remote desktop. Office works flawlessly.
For $397 its a bargain - just need to factor in cost of type cover

If it was full version windows 8.1 I would say it's a bargain. but Windows RT is not a bargain, these are the reject machines.

you need to know exactly for what reason you are buying it before you hand over cash. this is a very limited machine, buying haphazardly will result in great disappointment.
Even if you are buying a tablet for a non-computer-literate relative of some sort, I would by far recommend Android.

I'm not sure why you would buy this instead of a regular windows 8 tablet.

RT just has too much restrictions. The store is worse then Apple in terms of finding something decent for free.

    • What other 10 inch windows 8 tablet with a full hd screen would you recommend? I looked around nothing really in the $400-500 that i can find with full windows

      • +1

Asus T100, Acer Aspire, seems to fit into your $400-500 range.

Remember that above 8" they have to pay for a windows 8 license, so 8" tablets are very cheap and I think the perfect size.

        • Yeah that is a valid point regarding the 8" form factor. Just disappointed with screen resolutions for the Asus and Acer. The surface does get that Full HD resolution, which seems to be luring me in

          @B-prince:

Try the tablets for yourself. You might find the resolution doesn't matter enough or higher resolution reduces performance too much.
