Not really a bargain. Been about that price (think it was about $US27) when I bought it a year ago. That being said, for th office these are fantastic. Much better than a plunger and so much easier to clean.

    • Amazon increased the price to US$29.99. Even at US$27, it is now US$5 off. Good if you're already looking to buy it and dont want to pay Australian prices

  • Was thinking about buying a second one for work. Use mine at home each morning tis win.

  • This price is for frustration-free packaging. It shows the unit in a different colour to the retail packaging that is a bit more expensive.
Just wondering if they the same product?

    • +2

should be same product. only in a less annoying packaging.

    • +1

there is only 1 model that i know of, I've never seen a variant and i have purchased over time a few of these. the packaging is just a simple cardboard box - not sure how you can make this frustration free, it doesn't start with any frustration.

these items are great. definitely a different experience to espresso or any other manual coffee method. you'll want a decent grinder to go with, or buy fresh ground beans every day somehow. awesome for travel as well - buy a porlex mini hand grinder and it nests nicely inside and you have the ultimate coffee travel (or camping) experience.

buy a porlex mini hand grinder and it nests nicely inside

I don't suppose you know of a decent price on one?

      • sorry I don't. I just bought mine from one of the local coffee places online (manna beans or something similar) around 50 dollarz - think its was ten off at the time. the taller porlex holds a bit more coffee, but its also harder to grind with and doesn't nest into the aeropress as well.

hario is quite similar (identical burrs) but not sure on its nest-ability.

you could also buy a 'Hon' turkish coffee grinder - steel burrs - these are quite popular in the eastern Europe arena. I have one and they look sweet on the bench as well - gives you a bit more flexibility to grind ultrafine. but they are huge.

        • Nestibility is the only reason we'd need it as we already have a decent grinder at home. Having to grind all the coffee before going away though can be a pain at times, so thanks for that.

Love my Aeropress. Although I bought mine locally. Worth every dollar though. Thanks for the tip on the hand grinder. Now to find out where to get one of those cheap.

Thanks just bought this for only a few dollars more.

    • You can also get a permanent stainless steel filter as well. http://ministrygrounds.com.au/able-disk-fine.html

I too bought the 350 filters, still going through them but will get a permanent filter when I have used them all.

      • There is a slight difference in the coffee that each filter will produce. With the paper filters a lot of the oils are absorbed when the coffee is filtered through whereas the steel filters pass it.

I love my aeropress, use it every day. It does use a fair bit of grain though but never fails to produce a full bodied, tasty coffee.

        • Do you want the oils to be absorbed?

        • Personal preference. I like them both, but always use the paper filters when im in a rush because of the reduce clean up.

        • @RtN:
          AFAIK, it's not ideal.
Read the advice 100x that freezing coffee kills the oils. Therefore the oils are a feature to keep? Who knows.

        • The difference is that freezing kills the oils pre-brew whereas paper would extract some of it post brew.

  • And here I thought this was a deal on a new Frisbee!

I thought it was some weird workout tool.

        where is your imaginations?

More like a 'special' functioning pump

        • Now all I need is a Cree fleshlight!

Decent hand grinder costs about $60 locally, so u may as well just buy an aeropress porlex combo for $95 and support aussie sellers. Unless u can get a significantly cheaper grinder from amazeon.

  • [whoops]

  • Wonder how the coffee compares to the one made in a jolly old plunger.

I did buy a conical burr hand grinder of Hario brand. Bought it from Manna Beans in Melbourne along with one of their coffee deals. I'm very happy with the grinder and the beans but only every use a plunger.

The Aeropress is better. Hands down.

      • +1

I see what you did there

    • +2

stronger flavours due to greater pressure - like a manual espresso machine :)

      It's leagues above a plunger.

I've been a plunger user for years, and swear by them. My Aeropress arrived last Friday (purchased on this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/154885), and I think it's great - I already know I'll be buying a second one for home. Nice clean, strong coffee, easy to use and minimal cleanup.

    • +1

There is a noticeable difference between a plunger and Aeropress, its definitely worth the $30, and it doesnt take any more time/effort to use

  • If you're a student this is a good deal if you want the porlex as well - http://dev.ministrygrounds.com.au/aeropress-grinder-student-…

    Local stock. Free shipping

EDIT: realised bodacious posted similar deal above!

  • This thread has convinced me to get an Aeropress although I already got a pod system. But for the grinder, should I get the Hario or Porlex?

    • tbh, you should invest in a good electric grinder if you are grinding beans. Hand grinding gets very tedious, or you could just buy ground coffee in small amounts.

      • pfft lazy :P

        Hand grinding isnt that bad

I got one of these for my birthday it doesn't work

    • +1

      Probably a user error.

    • you'll need some of the AAA LSDs to power it.

  • Thanks OP. I've been looking for one for ages. I didn't see the deal earlier this week, and nearly considered paying retail at a shop this weekend.

  • Awesome just about to look for one

  • Price back up to US$25.95 from what I can see.

  • My purchase was US$22.87

    Item Subtotal: $22.87
    Shipping & Handling: $7.98
    Total Before Tax: $30.85
    Order Total: $30.85

    I chose frustration-free packaging.

  • So what's the best place to order beans in Sydney?
