Hi All,

Mike here from MEElectronics. In our last headphone post I was asked many times for a deal on our wireless headphones, so here it is.

We are offering a discount on top of our current low pricing for all of our Air-Fi Bluetooth wireless headphones, with an additional discount on shipping. The prices with coupon code are as follows:

Air-Fi Matrix2 (AF62) - $84.99 delivered after $20 discount and $2.95 off shipping
Fit: Over-ear … Sound Tuning: balanced/accurate/natural … Battery life: 22+ hours
Technology: Bluetooth 4.0, NFC connectivity, support for aptX and AAC HD audio codecs, can be used wired

Air-Fi Venture (AF52) - $54.99 delivered after $20 discount and $2.95 off shipping
Fit: Over-ear … Sound Tuning: enhanced bass … Battery life: 18 hours
Technology: Bluetooth 3.0, can be used wired

Air-Fi Runaway (AF32) - $49.99 delivered after $20 discount and $2.95 off shipping
Fit: On-ear … Sound Tuning: balanced and smooth … Battery life: 12 hours

Air-Fi Journey (AF16) - $35.99 delivered after $10 discount and $2.95 off shipping
Fit: In-Ear … Sound Tuning: balanced … Battery life: 5 hours
Technology: Bluetooth 3.0, Multipoint connectivity

My personal recommendation would be for the Matrix2 (AF62) and Runaway (AF32) - these are the best-sounding ones in my opinion and are the ones I use myself.

Note: all Air-Fi headphones feature built-in microphones and remotes for headset functionality

Coupon Code: OzBargainAirFi . All prices in USD. Promotion ends on August 20th. Limit: 2 items per order.

Here's how the shipping (which already factored into above prices) works:
* Base shipping charge: $8.95
* Additional shipping charge for each Venture or Matrix2: $9
* Additional shipping charge for each Runaway: $4
* Shipping discount with OzBargain coupon code: -$2.95
* Example: shipping cost on 1x Runaway + 1x Matrix2 will be $8.95 + $9 + $4 = $21.95 before additional $2.95 discount.

Delivery times vary but are typically between 10 and 20 business days for standard shipping. FedEx shipping is also available at an additional cost and typically delivers in just a few days.

As always, I will gladly answer any questions as best I can in the comments below. I can also be contacted by private message or by email at mike(at)s2einc(dot)com .

  • Can the journey be used for running?

    • It can, just have to be somewhat careful with sweat if you sweat a lot. It doesn't have the sweat-proofing of our Sport-Fi models.

      • Hi Rep,

Any word when a new bluetooth Sport-Fi earphone might be available?

        • We just released the Sport-Fi X6 model about three months ago. Might have a refresh next year, but no set plans for that yet.

    • Not saying it can't happen but I've never noticed any ill effects from sweat when using either head or earphones. Or at least not on any hardware anyway - having my ears sealed up and wet for long periods has led to rather a painful condition inside my ears which a mL of two of methylated spirits will fix up but your experience may vary.

  • +2

I've got the matrix2 and have only 2 gripes.

    1) charges via miniUSB - easily solved, bought a cheap mini to micro adapter
    2) the "battery low" spoken warning is extremely irritating and annoying - is there a way to disable this?

Apart from that these have been a really decent pair of headphones. Battery life is great and buttons are easy to get to after a few days getting used to where they are.

    • +2

Just to add to that - the spoken voice prompts are horrible and cheapen the product heaps - sounds like a cheapo ebay/dx/banggood special. Is there a way to disable them completely? I'm happy with just indiscreet beeps rather than a voice yelling at me every now and again.

Everything else from the faux carbon design of the hardcase to the headset itself is done beautifully and of high quality, but all that goes down the drain the moment you turn the headset on and get that horrible voice.

    • +1

+1. Love my Matrix2 with its awesome battery life and sound quality but it does have a few issues.

On top of what you have mentioned, I also find the blue power led annoying and wish I could turn it off plus its hybrid on/over ear unless you have really small ears. The control buttons on the headset are also way too small and take some getting use to.

      • you can cover that blue light with some black electrical tape.

    • +1

Glad you like them in general!

microUSB is a change we have planned for a newer revision sometime in the future. Unfortunately there's no way to disable the battery warning but it should only occur once per minute and only when the battery falls below ~10%.

    • Image shows it comes with the required mini USB cable. Why/how mini to micro needed?

Designed-well, it would use micro… like almost everything else now.

That voice-prompt you mention sounds terrible. Thanks for the heads-up.

    • matrix2 gripe.

button controls need to be revamped. currently they are too stiff & too confusing.

      • All suggestions noted :)

  • +1

MEElectronics posted my last order really fast. Thanks!

  • +1

Mike you're a legend, I was just about to buy the AF62's on amazon this morning

    • Lucky timing :).

  • Cheers Mike. Just seeing when the next flagship will be out?

    • The Matrix2 will be it for a while, at least for over-ear headphones. There should be a new in-ear flagship some time next year, though.

      • Cheers Thanks!

      • Any word on on-ears?

        • +1

Yes, there will be a new on-ear flagship later this year (hopefully November). The goal is to have one Hi-Fi wireless model in each category - over-ear, on-ear, and in-ear, so you can expect the on-ear to have better-quality components than the current AF32, along with aptX/AAC support and wired input, like the Matrix2 :).

        • @mikemeelec:

          Thanks! This is great news.

Here's hoping it has comparable battery life :D

        • +1

Yes, long battery life is one of our goals for all new on- and over-ear headphones. I've been getting over 30 hours with the prototype so it will probably be rated at 24 or so when it is released.

  • Meelec does a top notch warranty service!

    • care to elaborate on your warranty experience with meelec…?

  • do these work with PS3?

    • +2

No, there is no stereo audio over Bluetooth (A2DP) support on the PS3.

      • Probable just as a headset for voice over Bt, not in game volume. Will work fine plugged in for in game volume.

  • Incredibly satisfied with my purchase of fhe runaways. Listening to them now!

  • Just bought the Journey for my daily commute. Thanks

  • So it doesn't come with a Bluetooth USB adapter? meaning we have to have a Bluetooth compatible laptop/PC already?

    • Mine didn't - though I had no requirement for one…

    • Correct, there are no adapters included.

      • Mike, why don't you resell/bundle Azio's BTD-V401 - their (Windows' exclusive) APT-X codec would complement and add value to all your APT-X headsets?
Similarly, you should advertise the fact that Apple Macs natively support APT-X.

        • I like that Azio one a lot - it even comes with the nicer CSR Harmony software. Highly recommend it. Unfortunately we are not in the business of resale at this point but we are working on our own transmitter, which will be pretty unique.

I really wish Apple advertised aptX support themselves. Can be hard to tell if aptX is enabled or not. With the CSR Harmony software on Windows you get a nice little notification to tell you aptX is connected :).

Generally speaking, Apple's Bluetooth audio codec support is confusing - iOS supports AAC and not aptX but Macs seem to support aptX and not AAC.

        • Can be hard to tell if aptX is enabled or not.

So, why not make a headset that tell you (say, LED colour) what codec is being used? AFAIK, you'd be the first in industry to do so and have another feather in the hat - both you and your customer wins.

        • Probably easier to do on the software side with an app (or even a voice prompt on the headphones) than to try and extract the info into a hardware LED. Good idea, though - will look into it.

  • If you guys had something like the Plantronics BackBeat Fit but at a slightly lower price point that would be my ideal headphones.

    • Sorry, closest we have for now is the Journey. Maybe next year!

      • I'll cross my fingers :)
Might take the plunge on the Journeys in the meantime. Seem to have good reviews on Amazon.

  • Rep any chance you will be stocking bluetooth transmitters? I want to enable my tv but don't want to risk buying something not compatible on ebay.

    • We are working on a transmitter but it's a higher-end one (fully digital + HD-audio support) and won't be out until next year.

I wouldn't go eBay but getting a top-rated one from Amazon is safe in our experience. Just make sure it has the right type of connector (RCA or 3.5mm) for your TV. Some TVs will always mute the speakers when something is plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack so if that's undesirable for you, RCA is better.

    • You can get Avantree Saturn Pro yourself. Avantree sells some cheaper models too.

  • Can only echo the above with regards to the Matrix2
. The quality of the voice alerts doesn't bother me but I find them insanely loud
. Unless you have tiny ears the ear pads are too narrow and end up being on ear more than over ear. This results in a lot of external noise (spouse/kids) still coming through. To be fair they're not sold as noise cancelling/isolating.

Saying that, the construction is of high quality, the battery lasts a long time and the sound is great. I don't really buy into "burn in" but to me they did improve after a couple of weeks. They were also very easy to set up. Communication with Mike has been excellent.

Overall happy with them and would buy again.

    • Mike, concerned about headphones fitting as On ear instead of over ear. Can you give the rough inner dimensions for where the ears fit, or a scaled picture?

      • +1

The internal diameter of the pads is an oval that's approximately 5.5cm long by 3.5cm wide. I can email a picture with a ruler (or banana) for scale - just PM me your email address or email me.

  • Also, does USPS International first class mail included tracking number and required signature?

    Thanks

    • You're right, that was an error on my end. Should be working now at $75.99.

The regular USPS shipping comes with a customs tracking number. USPS tracks it all the way to international dispatch and Australia Post picks it up once it clears Australia customs and tracks it to destination. There is no signature requirement, though, so if you've had issues with international mail in the past I would really recommend FedEx shipping.

      • The shipping issue fixed after I removed item from cart and added again, I thought there was some problem on my end and once it worked out i edited the post.

But the FedEx shipping killing the deal almost equal to 50% of the item price. Anyway, thanks for the help.

  • Which ones would be good for using Skype wireless as my Logitech headset just died? Do bluetooth headsets offer as good a range as the 2.4GHZ ones?
    Cheers

    • All the same for Skype as long as your computer is set up for Bluetooth. I'd go with the Runaway for the best mic and range.

Bluetooth is typically quoted with a 30ft range (that's what all the chipset manufacturers specify) but there's a lot of variation depending on both the transmitter and headphones, and also on the environment. For example, solid objects in the way are not good for range but at the same time a wide-open space is not ideal because the signal has no walls to bounce off of. In our warehouse, which is pretty close to ideal conditions, range goes up to about 60ft when using an iPhone or similar.

If you want good range with Bluetooth get a headphone and not an earbud - those typically don't get as strong a signal.

  • +1

Thanks Mike, bought the af-62's! Great deal

  • Hi Mike, Is there any plan MEE will release a BT headset with super-power saving BT 4.1 version, anytime soon? I am waiting for one.

    • +2

No plans yet - haven't seen a need for it as 4.0 chipsets are getting more and more efficient. The current Matrix2 is rated at 22 hours of playback per charge (that's at maximum volume) and 350 standby. If you don't use it as intensively (not at max volume) you will easily get 24+ hours of music and talk out of it.

  • One more question, can all these Bluetooth Wireless Headphones use on any Apple Mac computers?

    • Yep. Macs support A2DP over Bluetooth natively since about 2011.

  • Just checking - the website says there's a stereo cable included. Does that mean they can be used via a 3.5mm input wire? Eg. plug into airplane sockets?

    • Yes, that is correct. The Matrix2, Venture, and AF32 models all have wired capability and can be used with any standard 3.5mm stereo audio jack. Useful if the battery runs out or with devices that don't support Bluetooth.

  • Well I grabbed the AF72's I hope they are good (comparable at least to backbeat go's and similar). Sadly more expensive than I thought it was gonna be…..oh well :)

  • what time does this promotion end in Australian time?
:o need time to decide !

    • +1

Midnight PST on the 20th so sometime in the afternoon on the 21st Australian time.

  • noob question

Does the playback media work on ANDROID???

i've had most headphones volume and media playback thing only work on APPLE devices…

    • manual doesnt say if it doesn't work,
      so i assume it does.

    • +1

That's a common issue with wired headphones that have inline remotes but these are wireless. All of the controls are enabled on Android. It's up to the music app to determine how they are used but all of the music apps I've tried recently allow both media and volume controls.

      • cool, ended up ordering a Journey,

        hope it delivers fast.

  • +1

Can anyone give a rough indication of how long it will take to deliver?
10-20 business days is just too vague … this would be for melbourne metro area's btw :o

  • The black/grey Runaway AF32 headphones are USD $47.97 on Amazon (w/ shipping). If anyone wants to save $2 dollars :)

  • Hi Mike,
Is there any chance you could match that deal on for the Match2 AF72 @ stackedsocial (US$60)? Maybe just add the shipping costs ($8.95) on to that?

    • Hmm… not sure if they ship internationally or not but the price with coupon should be the same as theirs now. If anyone needs a price match just send me a PM.

      • Oh ok no worries thanks Mike!

      • +1

Hi Mike I just ordered the Metro2, Matrix2 and one of the sport-fi range. Thanks heaps!

  • Hi Rep,
I am strongly considering the Journey ,
Just wanted to confirm that it does not go mute on calls after a minute or two,
I bought two very similar looking handsets from Avantronics (Jogger Blue) and even thought their support was good, they sent me a replacement, but it also had the same problem.

Couldn't use it to take calls.
Just want to check what's your process in case there are issues with the headset.
    Thanks,

    • +1

No, that's definitely not a function of the headset and not something we've had reported, so it shouldn't happen with ours (unless it's some sort of setting on your device, but that is unlikely).

If you have any issues you just need to contact us. If we can't solve the problem you have 2 weeks from the day you receive it to return it and a 1-year warranty as well.

      • +1

        Thanks rep,
        Ordered a Journey,
Look forward to trying it out.

        Cheers,

        • Received Shipping confirmation today.
          now waiting …

  • +1

    Just ordered one Air-Fi Matrix2 (AF62) - $84.99 delivered. 1st timer here :) Cheers.

  • +1

we have the matrix and runaway, both of my boys love them.

  • +1

Got the Matrix 2. Looking forward to trying these out as my first pair of BT HEadphones.

One question though. Is the battery is easily replaceable when the time comes to it? Or do I have to send it back to you guys to get it repaired? I'm sure the battery holds a good charge but i'm just thinking what could happen down the track, that's all. Cheers.

    • It's something that's easy to get to but replacement requires soldering so it's best to just have us do it.

  • +1

Ordered myself a Journey. Plan to use it for running, hope it holds up well enough.

  • hey Mike,

Looking at getting some in ears. Looking for ones that have the best sound. I listen to a lot of heavy metal music. ive used some logitech inears before and they sounded terrible. the guitars sounded distorted, however my old in ear sennishers were perfect till they died. I dont mind being wired but would like to give bluetooth a try even. what would you recommend, doesnt have to be one of the sale ones.

    • +1

If you're looking for in-ear and are willing to tolerate wires, I would still go with a wired set. I think our wireless headphones don't sacrifice anything compared to wired ones, but wireless in-ears (in general) aren't quite there yet. If you do want wireless, the Metro2 is our best-sounding wireless earphone.

Our products follow two sound signatures - "balanced/reference" and "enhanced bass/consumer".

"Reference" sound means that your headphones/earphones/speakers present a flat frequency response in an attempt to be as true to the original recording as possible. This type of sound is typically favored by audiophiles and music pros. In our lineup this would be the A151/A151P models.

The other direction is enhanced-bass, or "consumer" sound. Think Beats, but not as lacking in accuracy and of course a lot less expensive. For us the top of the line here would be the M-Duo. If you just like powerful bass and more lively sound, the M-Duo will be preferable. The Metro2 follows a similar type of sound to the M-Duo, just not quite as clear.

      • +1

        Thanks,
Ordered the M-Duo :) as it looks abit more durable then the A151P

      • Hey Rep, I've just received my Runaway AF32's and in the user manual it says " Charge for 4 hours before first time use "

I've been charging the headphones on my Macbook Pro Retina, and it's been 4 hours, however I notice that the red light is still on, indicating that it's still not fully charged. (It's not blinking either)

Should I keep charging them or is it fine to use now?

        • +1

Definitely okay to use - replied to your PM as well.

  • anyone received their headphone yet? have not received mine

    • I have….

    • I have. Got the journey as my first bt headphone and am happy with them. Took about 10 days.

  • Hey Mike, not sure if you still follow this post at all but I get a bit of a "buzz" or "hiss" when I connect my Journey to my Macbook (via bluetooth). Is this normal?

    • Shouldn't be unless you're extremely sensitive to the amplifier's background hiss (which is extremely faint).

Have you tried connecting it to any other devices to see if it's consistent? If it persists, just shoot me an email and we'll try replacing it to see if that helps.
