I keep seeing posts like this and initially thinking it's 2 monitors for the price. Then I'm filled with sadness when I realise the truth. :(

    • +5

Even with one monitor it's an amazing price, hasn't been this low for a few months now

I bought one a few weeks ago, couldn't be happier with it!

      • What's the difference between this and other ~23-24" monitors though? The USB3.0 and other connections aren't really that big of a deal to me.

        • I had one DELL U2311H and one U2414H on my office desk.
It's the best monitor I have used.
Once you have it, you won't look at other monitor any more.

        • +3

          @pp_lnp: Love at first sight?

        • @RichardWise:

          bought 1, thanks OP

I have 3 at work and love them!!!

        • +1

Portrait mode. It can sit barely 2cm off the desk when swiveled (height is adjustable), if you were to stack a few next to each other its a 2cm border between each screen.

I picked one up a bit over a month ago to replace two peripheral monitors that I used to browse the internet and to check steam/torrents/music player. Now I can see it all on one screen at a glance with no need to minimise anything. Replacing the two landscape monitors and getting this as a vertical has condensed a metre of screen deskspace into around 35cm.

        • @pp_lnp: Probably you will love U2413 more.

        • +1

          @pp_lnp:
There will always be better monitors better… but at this price range, it's very impressive!

  • +2

Good first deal OP, but go easy on the CAPS LOCK in the title next time.

    • +3

Sorry! Got excited haha. Just bought 2 myself.

      • Don't blame you. Nice find!

  • +4

    I don't have a reason to buy this :(

    • because it's a bargain and you love a good (oz)bargain?!

    • Damn good reason: Because you are a member of ozbargain.

  • I've got one of these. Best Montor I've had the pleasure to use. VFM for sure. Recommended. I'm tempted to buy another 2 for a triple setup :D

    • Is it a decent gaming monitor?

      • +1

Yes. I use it mainly for gaming. Couldn't be happier

  • I am resisting :(

  • How does it compare to U2412M?

    • 16:9 (this) vs 16:10, thinner bezel (this)

    • 3 USB 3.0 ports (this) vs 4 USB 2.0 ports
      HDMI (this) vs no HDMI

    • What about the anti glare coating? I wasn't a huge fan of the u2412m's, how does the u2414h compare

    • +2

The 16:10 Dell monitors are better but more expensive. It is a more flexible resolution to work with, 16:9 monitors are too short. Also 16:10 resolution is closer to the aspect ratio found in books, so if you read PDFs or comics on your computer, or look at a lot of images, the 16:10 is a better choice.

      • I always hear benefits of the 16:10 aspect ratio, yet manufactuers moved away from it. Why is that? Never-the-less I have 3 16:10 monitors.

  • +2

Owned 2 for a few months.
The only issue I have , it's a pain to switch between input sources.

It not a simple one button to switch between sources.

Menu -> Navigate to input sources -> Navigate to desired input source.

    • +7

you should be able to set shortcuts to 2 of the physical keys, input sources is one of the options.

      • +6

You may have just saved my marriage!

  • +1

Bought this monitor about 1.5 month ago in dell 30% off sale. It was $293 at that time. Now $27.7 cheaper. Great find!

  • I know little about monitor. So if i have a dell monitor with 1080p from 4 years ago how is this one a step up? considering they r both 1080p, though this one has slimmer borders.

extra usb ports are nice but its the screen im more interested.

  • Can you span over dual monitors for full screen gaming with proper bezel? For Windows. Either nvidia or mad gpu. Or do you need min of 3 monitors?

    • +1

You can run dual-monitor setups, but I think for most games it's not really worthwhile. Even if your monitors have thin bezels, the split will be right down the centre of the viewing area - if it's a first-person game, this is exactly where your centre of vision / crosshairs would normally be, and it's fairly distracting.

      • Exactly. The concept is always dangling a carrot I never got. It kills me to make a compromise… dual or one BIG screen. Still sticking with dual, for productivity.

        • +1

This will be the best of both worlds .. if it ever surfaces Dell U3415W

        • @Elijha:

AOC have now got their version up for preorder, and the LG has been out for a little while now, wonder what the hold up is?

        • @Wally Simmonds: Yeh .. I'm hoping competition drives the price down between the two .. not a fan of LG for screens / bezel or stand and DELL monitors have treated me well for a long time now. Didn't know about AOC - have a few of AOC at work and am not impressed though.

        • @Elijha:

not a fan of LG for screens

FWIW, Dell actually uses LG panels in their monitors, so there should really be no difference in quality between the displays.

  • +1

I paid $286.29 back in 14th April 2014. Love this monitor!

    • same here! Best monitor I've used.

  • +3

Ugh I want to but my 2405FPW just won't break down :(

    • same here I have an E248WFP that won't die!!

  • so need 2 hdmis, but my LG is still alive after 7 years…..

  • ahhh bought a week ago from ebay retailer at $320 :(

    excellent screen though !

  • I bought the U2412M a few days ago. Last week they had the U2412M for $314.30 because of the 30% discount. This week it's the U2414H.

  • +1

I got a few of these for work last time round, they are nice monitors but be aware they do not have a DVI input, display port/miniDP/2xhdmi only. I ran into problems trying to run two of them off a laptop docking station using display port and a dvi-DP adaptor, would not recognise the screen running off the adapter.

  • i got a U2713HM for 475 brand new in unopened box, comes with receipt from dell if anyone is interested? i bought 2 a month or so ago and only needed 1.

    • How on earth did you get it for that price?

      Pitty you're in Sydney :(

    • Inboxed

  • Anyone running 3 of these in portrait?

    • Is that a thing? I'm in.

      • +1

Two in portrait would look the best, since the top bezel is the slimmest and you can rotate the display so those edges are touching. If you have three, at least one thick bezel w/ Dell logo will be in between the displays, which I'd find annoying, personally.

  • Gonna hold off for FreeSync

  • Would you guys recommend I get this as a second monitor if I am currently using a 27 inch qnix (1440p)? Really want to get a second monitor but just not sure.

  • +2

Guys have a look at the dimensions given under specifications on the website. The dimensions without stand are incorrect - actually an 18" monitor is bigger.
Hammer the customer service guys for better discounts in chat, one sales rep offered me 525$ for 2 delivered, not massive discount but for an ozbargainer, its still a discount.

  • Awesome deal. Thanks OP

  • Im thinking one of these for gaming for my son.
When will his deal run to?

  • Thanks Op. +1. Been waiting for a good monitor deal for ages. Bought two! One for me and one for my son. That is my Xmas present gone of course…

  • I have a Samsung BX2450 .. I would like a new monitor soon because this is a few years old. I'm not sure if I want a larger one - know it would be helpful but worried that it would hurt my eyes too much which does happen sometimes. Is it pointless upgrading to a monitor of the same size?

  • have been mulling over upgrading our 4yo 21inch iMac and getting a 27inch iMac, for increased productivity for my wife's home business - but it's hard at this stage to justify dropping $2K.
aethestics aside, as a cheaper alternative, anyone see any issues with usgetting this as a second monitor ?

  • Any ideas how to add my server's vga out port to work with any of the available ports. I am reading I need a converter from analogue to digital as these on ebay are the other way around eg. hdmi to vga

    • Yeah my Dell U2311H died a few weeks back and the lack of VGA port on this one for legacy PCs is a bit of a bummer compared to my old monitor.

  • would this be okay for gaming?

    • +2

Not ideal, if you manage to defeat solitare then you may not receive the full experience of celebratory cards flying all over the place.

    • 8 ms response time isn't the best out there (compared to BenQ MLG screen 1ms - $200). But if you are the average gamer (better and brighter display), this is fine for gaming. It really comes down to the user and if you mind the 7ms difference.

    • I am looking at it for gaming and going by this review http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2414h.htm
      it seems to be ok?

      • Depends what games you play, really. Twitch shooters and competitive FPS? Really not ideal. RPG's, RTS, third person shooters and some FPS? It does the job just fine. Depends a lot on the person as well.

  • Anyone running this off a MacBook Pro? If so what do you recommend - set up, how many etc?

    • I'm running this off a MBP right now. Bought it back in Feb for $286. This is an even better price. Damn! I'm seriously contemplating getting another!!! I use it mainly in clamshell mode, for audio editing & some video editing. Colours and black levels are excellent, really sharp and vivid that its incomparable to the old piece-of-cr@p Sammy I was using before. Thin bezels gives it a nice minimal look. Its IPS, so colours look amazing even before calibration. Best thing about Dell is their warranty. You can't go wrong with this price.

      • Do you know what you need to run 2 of these side by side? There's only one HDMI output on the MBP. Can you run 3 side by side?

        • Thunderbolt (Mini DisplayPort) to DisplayPort. I don't think you can run 3 though, even if you have a HDMI and two Thunderbolt ports.

        • Do you think I can run 1xThunderbolt & 1xHDMI, that way I can leave a Thunderbolt free for other things? Thanks again.

        • @alphaomega:

I think that should work. As I understand it, the HDMI port and one of the Thunderbolt ports share the same output, hence why you can't run three monitors off each of them. Using the TB as an input should be fine, I think. Don't have a Mac and haven't done any research, so I can't be sure.

  • So is this just a smaller version of the 27" Dell that's often on here ?
I currently have a very very old 26" Acer and not sure whether to go down in size to this or up to 27".

  • Thanks OP purchased.

  • Can I use two of these with my Lenovo T420 laptop with the DisplayPort like Dell say?
It has one DisplayPort socket on my laprop.

  • How does this compare with this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Samsung-24-Series-5-D590-Monitor-…

Dicksmith has 20% off Sunday, making it $240.

    • +2
      • Matte coating (Dell) vs glossy (Samsung)
      • 8ms response time (Dell) vs quoted 5ms (Samsung) - couldn't find any reviews, so I can't verify the Samsung's.
      • Adjustable stand (height, vertical / horizontal movement, portrait / horizontal) vs non adjustable stand
      • VESA compatible vs non VESA compatible
      • HDMI, DisplayPort, MiniDisplayPort vs HDMI

The Samsung uses PLS, which is for all intents and purposes, the same as IPS. Both have the same quoted brightness level. Both have the same resolution, and virtually the same physical size. I couldn't find any reliable reviews for the Samsung, so I can't speak for it's colour reproduction or anything versus the Dell. Both have pretty small bezels and both have pretty nice looking casing.

  • Great, was needing a second monitor for my MBP. Hopefully I can claim this in tax next year :)

  • so keen to get it.

Im in the process of selling my computer though :(

    Wut do?

  • just wondering, is this monitor have vesa point for mounting?

    • Yes.

      • thank you, i saw this on dell outlet for $216 on sunday as new (stock 1), this morning, it was gone

  • DSE $399 PS4 deal, now this? I'm broke!

  • Would this monitor work with a PS3 ok? I have external speakers for sound, just wondering if the screen is suitable for PS3 games and movies?

  • Thanks OP,

I was just chatting to their sales guy about some warranty related things, and he offered an extra 1% on top of what's been on offer so it can be a couple of dollars cheaper.

Something to consider if you are thinking of a bulk purchase for office or anything like that.

  • I want to daisy chain a couple of this on my late mac mini, however, unfortunately the dell sales person was unable to fully understand the issue. Having researched a bit more, it seems daisy chaining isn't an option and there are some issues in using one via HDMI and the other via the DP.

Tried to get some additional discount over the phone but there was no movement.

    • I'm not sure if any mac/your model of mac supports DisplayPort 1.2, however, with a 780 Ti on a computer I recently built, I got 2 of these to daisy chain fine.

Though I got them to daisy chain fine, I couldn't manage to get consistent results with the mini-DP to DP cables that came with it. They'd take forever to "trick" the monitors out of power saving mode and for windows to recognise them as 2 separate monitors. And even when windows saw both, there was considerable input lag. When i'd turn one off (even if it was the last in the link), you'd need to jump through hoops for it to work again.

My solution to this was buying some full-sized DP cables a few days ago, plugged them in, enabled DP 1.2 like I did before, and so far, absolutely no hiccups as described before.

TL;DR version: daisy chaining these work, I just had no luck doing so with the stock cables.

  • isn't 8ms grey to grey really bad?

    • For what application?

  • Has anyone else opted to pay with PayPal but not had the payment processed yet?

    • I paid with paypal, and yes I got the same message. It'll be like that for a couple days, it's just how Dell works.

Also just got my monitors today, hooked them up no problems, daisy chained them, all I needed to do was enable display port 1.2 on one of the monitors and off I went.

      • can i pls see ? Thinking about grabbing two myself and want an opinion on the quality of this badboy!
