180

Seen a few stores selling Mac's cheap of late, and came across this beauty! Current model, yes its old now, but at that price, pretty cheap!

I personally haven't dealt with DWI, has anyone got feedback before buying?

Also have the 2.3Ghz Core i7 1TB for $729 - http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Apple-Mac-Mini-23…

Cheaper than eglobal (which is also them)

  • Nice price, but would be better waiting for a refresh on the mac mini

  • That is a very good price, but I expect that this is because a refreshed Mac Mini is going to be released very soon.

    • I wouldn't say very soon, Apple may wait for the broadwell mid 2015.

      • The current Mac mini is 2 years old. I'm gambling fairly soon: http://www.macrumors.com/2014/07/29/support-page-references-…
But Mid 2014 would mean: May, June, July, August.
So if true, Apple have 14 days left to refresh the Mac mini to qualify for Mid 2014?

        • I'm gambling fairly soon

Hope so, but I think they just didn't upgrade it as it is just basically just cannibalizing their imac sales.

  • Is this Australian stock? (Does it matter?)
Doesn't look like it has a genuine Apple warranty.

    • Apple warranty on computers is global. Though they may restrict service if the product or parts aren't available in the country where repair is requested, or require you to pay international shipping/duty.

      From the Mac mini warranty:
"For international service, Apple may repair or replace products and parts with comparable products and parts that comply with local standards."

Some discussion in the forums recently here. In my experience they are cheap, but sometimes a bit dodgy with invoices and I've experienced a ton of Paypal phishing emails and general spam at the one-off address I used for an order. The post I've linked to mentions another person who had a hard time with returns, but as MightyAtom has already mentioned you might be subject to a global warranty, this might not be much of an issue.

  • 2% surcharge using paypal :(

  • Comes with OSX Mountain Lion (10.8) and their prices for keyboard/mouse are more expensive than Apples!?

    • But tempted for the i7

  • How would it compare to an Intel NUC hackintosh?

    • reply to self: rather well. The Mac CPU is a bit faster than the NUC, though with higher power consumption (and so noisier?).
The mac mini is cheaper too, and includes a nice OS.

BTW, this is only $644 at DSE with local warranty. A better deal if you can claim GST.

  • interesting comments… most say wait for the new one but will there be one? I've been researching the mini and the rumours go 50/50 with some saying this is the last mini apple are making so a refresh is doubtful and the other half say mac are doing a haswell.

  • wow better than intel nuc i5, (empty intel nuc i5 already $409 + hdd + ram + os)
