WD Cav Blue?? Odd choice of HDD… Green is quieter, faster and same price??

    • +4

      Unless things have changed:
      Blue is 7200RPM
      Green is 5400RPM

From what I've read, the Green is superior in performance to the Blue, due to using 1TB platters which increases density. RPM is no longer important with HDDs - high RPM is noisier and people who want extra performance get SSDs these days. Edit: seems Blue also has 1TB/platter size.

        • +1

Nope. Green is never the drive for performance due to the drive's "power saving" feature that it will try to spin as slow as possible to reduce noise and sound.

I will always recommend getting an SSD for main drive and a HDD or SSHD as secondary depending on what you use it for.

A nice 240/256 or 480/516 would be great for main drive and some core programs and keeping storage to the HDD or SSHD. I have 3 drive in my PC, SSD boot drive, 2TB SSHD for games, 2TB Green for storage.

MSY prices (sorry to the poster that usually does it):

    CPU: $201
MB: $72 (cheapest B85m asrock, no MSI)
    RAM: $84
    HDD: $62
    GFX: $199
    ODD: $18
    Case: ~$49 (equiv branded case)
PSU: ~$59 (equiv 500w psu branded)

    TOTAL: $744

I have to register just to get a postage quote… So annoying!
Would rather pick up the above from MSY

      • +1

That's odd, I got a postage quote no problem, and I'm not logged in. MSY is a little bit more with assembly.

        • Mobile site wouldn't let me!

$765 shipped, insured to me… Meh rather buy from MSY, alter something here n there (like the case), and build it myself :)

$93.75 shipping to Albury with Fastway? Are you having a giraffe?

  • +1

Approx $740 in parts alone, tempting but why aren't you guys in Sydney. T_T If something goes wrong and it has to be returned for back to base warranty, customer pays shipping..?

  • +2

Buy at your own risk… If there is any issue with any part, Good luck in claiming the warranty.. I am still fighting with the issue, I reported the very next day I bought the desktop…

    • +1

Ouch. Doesn't sound good. So CPL is refusing to RMA a faulty part, or diagnose a system under back to base warranty? :/

  • +1

Their pay extra for insurance is a mad double dip! Fastway includes insurance in their shipping charges.
