Sony KDL60W850B 60" TV $1690 Pickup from TGG

680

Hey guys,

My brother and I were looking for a low input lag gaming TV and have had our eye's on this Sony 60"KDL60W850B.
Its the best rated TV at this size for console gaming with a low input lag of 23ms. It has been jumping around from $2300-2000 lately but has now dropped both at the Good Guys and BigBrownBox.com.au to a low $1690.
Really clear screen with a nice picture and set of features- definitely recommend it.

The good guys have it for $1690 Pickup or add $30 for delivery

While the BigBrownBox has it for the same pricewith free delivery- although found it easier to just pick up.

Pretty sure this was $1400 during the latest DSE eBay sale.

Think that was the 55 800B.

Previously had a FREE PS4 by redemption.

    • +6

Yeah but was at the higher price.

    Great TV.

No longer get a free PS4 but it's dropped some 700 bucks.

    • that a saving of about $300. PS4 is worth $400 now.

      • Yes.

Study your math, kids. Key to the Universe. :)

  • For non-gamer, which is better? This or the sammy UA60H6400AW?

    • Non gamer go the Samsung.

    • +1

Samsung might have a slight edge in picture quality (and is clearly the better SmartTV platform — including a Plex app) but personally I find Samsung's MotionPlus interpolation tech to be hideous. Sony's Motionflow does a better job at not interfering with 24/25p stuff and avoiding the 'soap opera effect'.

    • +1

If you're a non gamer BUT you watch mostly movies in a dark room - the Sony. Better "true cinema" motionflow and better blacks.

I own the 70" this is a seriously awesome TV. This price for the 60" is awesome

      • It's 2710 for 70", consider delivery.

Does refresh rates matter for gamers?

How does this compare to Samsung UA60H7000 with 200Hz?

        • +1

Does refresh rates matter for gamers?

          No.

A lack of input lag is much more important. Motion interpolation greatly increases lag and "Game Mode" typically turns it off.

On top of that, a large number of console games only run at 30fps, well below 50/60Hz.

      • Samsung may have better blacks, but by doing so it introduces that stupid smearing of blacks. Really great tv's for movies, gaming is fine but dark areas smear. I think the samsung picture was better, especially for movies. Although once in your home either would be great.

  • Good deal op. I have a 55" and reckon the 60" or 65" size would be optimal.

  • Big brown box also has 0.9% cashback for foundation members of starthere.
    Think its 0.7-0.8% for cashrewards.

Good range of 60" options at the same price

This Sony, previously mentioned Samsung, and the Panasonic TH-60AS7000A - 100hz, Polarized 3D (passive 3D), and updated 'smarts' to the life+ screen - http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/buyonline/Panasonic_60%22%2815…

Haven't seen one in the flesh, nor seen any reviews, and to me the stand/design isn't as good with the Panasonic … each to their own!

    • Both good tellys and at a good price, just not for gaming. the stand it a bit shit but we wall mounted ours.

  • +3

The color and black level of Sony's TV are undeniable. However, the design this year is disappointing. It is so thick comparing to other brands and you can't rotate it. I will wait until it's 4k tv drops price.

with cash rewards and save about $34 that means free delivery

  • Good price. I picked this tv up the last day of the PS4 redemption. Cost me $1820 I also got a PS4 and a fitbit (fitbit was a good guys bonus).

  • Can this TV be wall mounted despite its design?

    • +2

      Yes

  • yes this would of been a nice TV if it was not for the Design.

    • +1

The designs not too bad.. when its all mounted you hardly notice it. The bezel is so small. It's wider at the bass due to the larger built in 'mini sub'. With a slim wall mount it only extends about 130mm from the wall.

  • Sorry for noob questions but is this a bravia? Are sony bravia tv's even any good for gaming?

    • +2

Best kept secret for console gamers, they have the lowest input latency.

    • Yep its a Bravia.
Had a Bravia 40 inch LCD which I replaced with a 55 inch Bravia LCD and quite happy with it. Use it for all my gaming needs (including PC games).

I love my games at 1080p with 60fps….everything set at max. Personal preference.

  • bought it at Dicksmith last week for $1717 with free shipping!

  • I'm in the hunt for a big TV atm. Got my eyes on the LG 60PB6600 60" plasma for $1095.

Will have to read a few more reviews.

    • I'd go Samsung if your just after a TV. Otherwise Sony all the way for gaming….

    OP,
Great choice of TV. Same one i bought yesterday. HN had up to 20% off(sat only) and the TV was going for $1687, Goodguys were selling it for $1690 with their 15% off(Ends Monday).
JB was still selling it for $1998.
Did my runs to see if i could get better prices =P, they were going for $2-2.3k.
My samsung 46" buggered up so it was perfect timing for a new TV.
It was either the Samsung UA60H6400, Sony 60W850B or LG6LB6500. After reading reviews for a couple of days, i ended up purchasing the Sony, only because it has better quality pictures, better blacks, good input lags for games but the 'wedge' design was disappointing, such stupid and ugly design but i guess they did that for the better sound quality it has over the other series. If you're not into the thin looks and could live with the 'wedge' design then I would recommend the 850B series. Also i got a wall mount with 10degrees tilt so the TV on the wall would look flat rather than on an angle.
I didn't go with the Samsung cause the review on the picture quality wasn't great. Only series 7 and above has the better picture quality, also the LG has better picture quality than the Samsung 6 series.
LG - didn't really look into it too much, not a fan of LG.

$1690 is a good price, :) JB would match it for $1650, TGG said $1645, ended up getting it from JB for $1600 :)
Just bite the bullet and get it, he won't be disappointed.

  • Thanks! One last noob question, has this got picture in picture ie. can i play a game while mrs watch tv at same time?

    • Not sure if it has PIP but it does have PAP (picture and picture)
This is what shows on the Specs.

PAP (Picture And Picture): PAP (Variable)

      • It has both PIP And PAP.

        • +1

The PIP and PAP really pop on this unit.

So tempted to buy a new TV but hanging out Android TV next year.. bah

  • give me the Hisense 65" for the same price any day.

    • How's the sound/remote quality on the Hisense models? I was just assuming they're Soniq/Kogan-like…

      • sound is great. Obviously not as good as using the home theatre for movies, but its fine for everyday viewing

  • I have the 55w950b and love it. It has the same wedge design to this one for improved sound.

If you don't have a full blown Home Theatre setup and plan to use the built in speakers, I recommend the optional Sony Wireless Subwoofer. I purchased the Subwoofer with mine, and it was a wise purchase. Better than any soundbar. The sub provides the lows and the wedge speakers the mids and highs.

It's so good that we play Pandora through it regularly via the Sony apps.

    The 70" also a respectable $2710. I think it's cheap considering it's a Sony.

    • +1

      $2650 delivered at JB…

That is the price they gave me "if I buy today".

      • is this the standard price for the 70 inch now $2650

Because TGG 70inch went back up to $3189

  • Is this too big if you are only sitting 3.5m away

  • Recently bought this beauty a couple of months ago when they had the FIFA promo (free ps4). Haggled JB down from $2899 to $2000 and sold the PS4 for $450, so ended up getting the bad boy for $1550 with extra 2 yrs JB warranty (standard on all devices over $2K - not replacement warranty but still its something).

Love this TV. The wedge design looks sweet, the picture is awesome and it doesn't burn out your retinas like the Samsung panels although the smart functionality isn't as great as Samsung's.

    Highly recommended.

  • Thanks for the heads up, bought this TV a couple of weeks ago from TGG and then used the 120% price match guarantee to claim the rest back. Pretty much no other reason to shop anywhere else (especially with the price match guarantee).

    • Except Costco for the lifetime warranty (if you shop there regularly)
