    While it is a permanent price update (rather than a special offer), the last time Google Drive dropped their price the "deal" was well-received by OzBargainers. Just put this out before the naysayers come in.

    • +19

      @jv I think this comment is for you.

    • +12

      I for one like to see this as a deal as I don't search forums for things like this.
      This is why I come to Ozbargain. Thank you OP.

        • +9

          you are so pedantic about little things - insignificant things - not worth it

          if what you think about this post was the general consensus then it would not get up voted. so a bargain in most eyes

        • +6

          @MountFranklin:

          I'll come back tomorrow

          @shaunpud:

          I'll come back tomorrow

          There's no hurry, it will still be $10.99 Per Month. It's the normal price…

        • And I wonder what percentage of visitors agree with jv.
          please do the math for us jv

        • -3

          @jmevan:

          Well if 5.5% agree this is a bargain, then 94.5% don't… :P

    • +12

      I disagree.

      • +2

        So how much will you save when you join ?

        • +2

          Funnily enough I agree with you on things quite often, but I'll have to disagree this time.

          Whilst it's a new normal price, it's still a discount from the old price and worthy of a deal I think.

          Technically you are correct but most won't (don't) see it that way. Just roll with this one I say and put it in the grey area ;)

    • +14

      It looks like a new cheaper price… Deals belong in deals…

      • +5

        A new normal price…

        Does it expire ??? No, then it's not a deal…

        • Blah blah blah.. Plenty of previous examples.

        • +4

          @ryang:

          Plenty of previous examples.

          That doesn't make it right…

          There are no savings to be made with this… = no deal. It is just an announcement

        • +1

          @jv: SIGH.

          It is an increase in value on a previous product. For people that previously didn't want to make this purchase, it is now more attractive. A bargain, some might say.

          If you struggle with that, think of it as a 'buy one get 9 for free' offer…

        • +2

          @jv:

          While we know you like to be difficult, did you read the first comment?

        • @ryang:

          It is an increase in value on a previous product.

          Being less of a rip-off does not make it a bargain…

          It was overpriced before…

        • +2

          @ozhunter:

          did you read the first comment?

          did you read the second comment?

        • +2

          Does is expire? Who knows? Do you work with Dropbox?

          It may revert back to old price in the future. Who knows?

          We are not here to speculate what the future price would be.

          For people who are using Dropbox all these while and require additional space, it is a deal for them.

        • @Letrico:

          Does is expire?

          No, it's the normal price for 1TB….

        • +3

          @jv:
          it does not matter it is now the normal price. It has now dropped in price, I reckon this is more than sufficient.

        • +7

          @jv:
          Sure jv whatever rows your boat. If you are right, your report would have gone through and the deal would have been removed.

          Sadly it is not and you are making a fool of yourself.

        • +1

          @wakkawalla:

          it does not matter it is now the normal price

          So we agree, there is no saving, therefore not a bargain…

        • +3

          @Letrico:

          your report would have gone through

          which report ?

        • @jv:
          Not report-worthy… so we agree, it should stay.

          Instead of being a serial pest, and using-up all our negs… be useful to the community & just report it.

        • +1

          @Utopian:

          so we agree, it should stay.

          No… Read my first comment, right after scotty…

          There was no point reporting because scotty already decided to make an exception, even though he said it's not a bargain…

        • @jv:

          this is funny

        • +1

          I don't know if deals like this are in fact allowed or not but I do agree with jv's opinion that price changes like this one aren't really deals.

          What especially bothers me is that as of late, I see people posting deals in the gaming section about games that have now become free permanently. I know those are definitely allowed according to the rules but I do question their place on OzBargain.

    • Ugh, you're the worst.

  • +3

    While it isn't of much use to me at the moment, glad I can get a terabyte of storage for so cheap at my preferred cloud drive when I need it someday :-)

  • +2

    For those who find $10 a month too much, I have used this service to max out my referrals for $5. It's likely against the terms of service but I have had no issues with it (used it 3 months ago).

    $11 a month for 1TB is definitely good value if you have a lot of data to save, though, and Dropbox's sync speed and reliability seems much better than any of the competition.

    • +1

      Used a similar service a year ago. Worked great, until Dropbox removed all the referrals a month or so later… Congratulations if you got to keep yours :-)

      • +1

        Dropbox limit increase usually comes with an expiry date. My massive 50gb I got the past year also expiring this year.

        • -2

          Nope, I did the same thing using a VM, changing proxies and fake hotmail emails. After about two months, they removed all the referrals.

          Good riddance anyway, don't trust my data with them.

        • +3

          @richie83:
          Sounds like they're really missing-out.

      • I must be lucky. 3 months later mine are still there. Woop! :)

    • +1

      Or you could use the instructions here to do it yourself for free. Mine were never removed

  • +8

    Good to know Dropbox is in the playing field now, but there's cheaper offerings.

    Microsoft One Drive - $10/month for 1TB and access to Office 365.
    Mediafire - $2.5/month for 1TB. Caveat is there's no linux application.

    • +5

      Use student off if applicable for 1TB for $99/4 years. (Around $1.80/month for space + office + skype) :D
      www.microsoftstore.com/store/msaus/en_AU/pdp/productID.26029…

    • +3

      Also purchasing Office365 Home Edition lets you share that office365 with 4 other account ( so 5 x Office365 + 5 x 1TB OneDrive storage).

    • Yep. Exactly what I was thinking. I'm still amazed Dropbox is surviving with the offers such as that with Microsoft. I personally think Dropbox sucks as well.

  • +2

    no deal, Google drive is $1 cheaper

    • Same price. Prices in title must be in AUD as per OzB guidelines

      • +1

        is it, i just checked google drive and it said $9.99 in my account, maybe that is US price but I would have thought Google would have it in AUD for me.

    • +7

      I think the comparison should extend beyond storage price alone. I personally find Dropbox's file sync and sharing options to be far superior, so today's announcement makes Dropbox the clear winner for me.

    • I would say: If you want the title, you need to beat the champ.

      They're struggling to even match the champ/s.

  • +8

    If I were about to sign up for 1TB, why would I yearn for a bonus 500MB (you, on the other hand…)

    • and only 16GB max.

    • -5

      Would give this 100 upvotes if I could.

      • +3

        Here's a neg to get you started.

  • Pogoplug is cheaper, and unlimited storage FYI

    • Not as practical though if your network is unreachable so are your files, if your house burns down, so do your files.

  • +3

    Voting up just because jv likes to be difficult.

  • +6

    Sweet, time to start uploading now as it will take approx 88 days of constant uploading will my connection to fill that.

    Can't wait for Tony's FTTN when it will only take approx 18 days vs FTTH where it would take 2 days or probably a few hours by the time it actually comes. But who wants that

    • This is exactly why I won't bother with online storage until I have more then 2mbit upload…

      Luckily I'm getting the real NBN late this year :D

      • +1

        First upload sessions takes a while, but from there on its all incremental.

        I pushed up 200GB+ onto my dropbox via ADSL2+ (100KB/s upstream). Just cap the speed to something reasonable and set&forget. Once its done you never have to upload it again.

        In summary - houses get robbed and houses burn down. You need some sort of offsite redundancy!

        • I have 11TB of data though… it would take so long to get it all uploaded.

        • -1

          @samfisher5986: no way you have 11tb that needs to be kept (I.e. none of it can be downloaded again)

        • @ory_zm: If you take a lot of photos in RAW, or take a lot of videos, it can add up real fast.

        • @gilbarc: Agreed, but 11TB?! I have years' worth of movies and series and I think it doesn't get to that. If we are talking professional photographer than that's something different (but also can afford to pay for the backup - and should). But for personal data I can't fathom 11tb worth of stuff…

          PS - I believe crashplan have an alternative means of getting data in - http://support.code42.com/CrashPlan/Latest/Backup/Seeded_Bac…
          Also worth mentioning that CrashPlan offers you to backup offsite for FREE (to friends and family)

        • @ory_zm:

          1. You would be surprised how hard it is to get some content especially when time has passed. I would have plenty of content you would likely struggle to get or just couldn't get.
        • @samfisher5986: Yeah, good point haven't considered that!

    • Any of these services allow for upload from multiple sources? ie: using friends/family connection too.

  • -1

    no need that big space… why not have other options? e.g. 100G, 200G etc :(

    • +3

      That's the whole point - most people won't use a full terabyte, so it's also for people that only need 100g/200g.

      This is far cheaper than 200g used to cost, so it's win-win.

  • Any idea when this starts? I'm already paying $10 per month and it still says 100GB. I hope I don't have to cancel and resubscribe…

    • +1

      I read somewhere the new plan will be rolled out to existing users automatically over the next few days.

      • Thanks, I just got the email:

        We're excited to let you know that Dropbox Pro just got even better!

        What’s new with Dropbox Pro?
        We're giving you 10x the space — for the same price. You'll have 1 TB of space for your photos, videos, docs, and any other files you want to keep safe in Dropbox.
        With new sharing controls, we’re making it easier to manage access to the stuff you share. You can set passwords and expiration dates on your shared links and grant view-only access to shared folders.
        Keeping your stuff safe is our top priority. For extra peace of mind, remote wipe lets you delete your Dropbox files off a lost or stolen device.

  • +1

    I left Dropbox a few months ago when I ran out of space, so this is good to hear.

    • Ditto. Moved all my data to Google Drive…now I have to move it back.

  • Great to see Dropbox playing ball finally on price but MS onedrive smashes it with office 365 included for the same price and storage.

  • +1

    Good comparison site: http://www.cnet.com/au/news/onedrive-dropbox-google-drive-an…

    The 2GB file limit for OneDrive is limiting for me and I believe the 10GB file size limit for Google Drive is incorrect.

  • +3

    If you're not too paranoid, there are a few Chinese cloud storage providers that offer a whole lot more space for free. Tencent's Weiyun gives you 10TB, while Qihoo's 360Yunpan has 36TB. Sign-up can be a bit tricky if you can't read Chinese (though it is a pretty standard signup process nonetheless, and there are English tutorials online), but once you get it up and running, it's pretty easy to navigate.

    • +2

      36TB ?! That's impressive / insane!

      I wouldn't put anything remotely sensitive on it but that's a hellavalot storage for, well junk. My NAS currently sits at 8TB, expandable to 36TB but that's mind blowing for online storage.

    • +2

      Dropbox now has Condoleeza Rice on their board and has been known to eagerly cooperate with the NSA. Chinese sites probably spied on by the Chinese government.

      If if you need to store important data, then secure the data with good encryption, or don't store that stuff in the cloud. Doesn't matter what cloud service you choose.

  • Perfect for Cloud Sync with plex! So far dropbox has worked the best. Onedrive (2gb file limit) Google Drive (1hr Auth token limit) Bitcasa terrible API interface.

  • +3

    I hope Dropbox launch a $1/month 100GB Plan. That'd be hugely popular!

  • Sugarsync is probably the best as far as providing all the features of Dropbox and Onedrive but also allowing you to backup any folder, however the pricing is not on the same level as Dropbox or OneDrive right now.

    • I have used Sugarsync before, excellent service. I think they will lower their price eventually.

  • +1

    I'm happy with Google Drive 100G just 1.99/m

  • +1

    I wish they'd have something in between. I don't need 1TB, I just need 100GB. If they came closer to Google Drive's pricing that would be perfect and I could keep everything all in 1 place.

    At the moment my photos are on Google Drive and everything else important is in Dropbox. I have around 9GB of free space that I have obtained over the years through various promotions.

  • +1

    Let's cut out the middle man and get better (free?) deals from the NSA for storage…

    • Fair point, they have all our stuff anyway so why not make it available to us :)

  • Log in to Dropbox using your Samsung mobile, you may get 48gb for free for 2 years!!

  • I pay $7 p/m for an unlimited plan with CrashPlan.

    I've been using CrashPlan for a couple of years now, and they are pretty good IMO.
