  • 3G: WCDMA 850/2100MHz

    • Which means no good on Optus.
Also, 1GB of RAM just doesn't cut it anymore.

      • for the price the specs seem fair, I would have liked a higher res tho… can't have em all !
        Mobile for the kids…

      • THL make pretty decent phones but if you want to go Optus you can get the tcl s950 for around $180 as it's 900/2100 frequency.
I have it, absolutely awesome phone

        1Gb RAM is fine..
Not as ideal as 2Gb or 3Gb, but then we're not looking at a $400+ handset.
It's also running KitKat, designed specifically to run better on Low RAM devices.

        • Maybe on KitKat, not sure. I run a non-stock browser, which uses a lot of RAM. My LG phone is 4.1, and has horrible memory consumption.

      • "Which means no good on Optus."
Do you only mean no 3G? But still can work on Optus network?

        • Now I am a mobile phone tech know-nothing so I hope someone corrects this but my understanding is that this phone would operate perfectly normally on Optus for phone and text but would be very slow for internet. Correct?

Would the phone/text range be limited in any way by the lack of 3G?

        • @shaybisc:

could only connect 3G band at 2100MHz, not 900MHz.

          @shaybisc:
          Yes..
Optus 900MHz 3G is their main Rural coverage method.
If you're in the city, you wont notice any coverage issues (even for 3G)

        • yes, I mean it won't pick up the 900Mhz 3G band. Which even in metropolitan areas can be annoying. I don't get 2100Mhz at home. It can still work, and will most of the time, but not always. Outside metro, you will likely get virtually no 3G, just 2G. So slower data, but voice calls will be fine. But if your phone tries to cling onto a poor 2100Mhz 3G signal, your voice calls may also be unreliable. I had to force my phone to "2G only" when I was with vodaphone, because it tried to cling onto poor 3G signals, resulting in horrible battery life as well.

        • @Make it so:
          Optus don't have 900MHz 3G in Cities..

        • @scubacoles: I was describing my situation with Vodafone, who use 850Mhz in metro. They kept assuring me their new network would save me, except it had no coverage in my home, and they had provided me with a phone which did not support 3G 850Mhz. And yes, Optus certainly does have 900Mhz in cities.

        • @Make it so:

Optus certainly does have 900Mhz in cities.

Coverage Map shows some 900MHz in the fringes of Syndey, but otherwise the 2100MHz map overlays the 900MHz map. In a city, the 900MHz coverage is barest minimum no better than the 2100MHz, I'm not even convinced that there is 900MHz.
(I speak from experience of owning a 900MHz Optus handset and then running a Tesltra 850/2100MHz only handset for 15 months in Adelaide… Noticed no coverage issues whatsoever with the Telstra handset unless I left the metro area.)

        • @scubacoles: I'm in Perth. My home is lower than surrounding areas, and the 2100 signal is very poor, such that I depend on 900mhz. Lower frequency signals have greater penetration. The advertised 2100mhz areas are often theoretical, in that signal strength of sometimes too weak to be of use.

      • Optus runs 2100MHz as well.

  • Nice try China Invasion

  • Many online stores sell it at around US$90, tinydeal, thlmobilestore. Mostly US$89.99.

    • +1

This is quite cheap, if its $90~ USD then add $7-8+ more to it for AUD…

    • I checked tinydeal, dx last night before posting this deal. Feel free to post link which has got cheaper than this.

  • But why isn't it "Chinvasion"…..with the way they're taking over the low-end smart-phone market….ok I need something better to do with my days off.
