  • nice price

  • what is everyone's opinion of this netbook? i'm in the market for one, but don't really know the specs i should be looking for, i mainly want it for wifi.

    • Check my post out a few lines below.

    • S-l-o-w CPU is the reports on NBR. Some resort to overclocking. There's at least 2 other higher performance 11.6" units: Gateway LT31 and Acer AS1410/1810T. See http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/?tag=Netbooks . The AS1410/1810T has a faster SU3500-1.4 cpu and X4500 graphics ;)

  • WARNING! There's a strong possibility that demand for this will greatly exceed supply! We cannot guarantee availbility for all that wants one. We will try and provide more info on availbility tomorrow morning.

  • Amazing deal for a brand new netbook. Love the screen size, 6 cell battery too. Nice screen resolution too. Very thorough review here - http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-One-751-Mini… (note the performance bit and that it is slower than the N270). Gets 591 minutes battery life in a real world test (brightness lowest/BT and WLAN off) - nearly 10 hours! Still maintains a respectable 5 hours with everything on (LCD at max, BT and WLAN on).

    Thumbs up!

EDIT: Next cheapest on StaticIce is $649 + shipping, so this is over $50 cheaper than the competition.

  • It's great to see some more 11"-13" netbooks coming out!

  • Intel® US15W Express Chipset = Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 500 (Intel® GMA 500)

Full hardware acceleration of H.264, MPEG2, VC1, and WMV9 is supported, eliminating the need for software decode and off-loading the processor.

    Display 11.6” HD 1366 x 768

Looks pretty win for 720p HD stuff.

    • According to the review though it still suffers from performance issues especially HD content.

      • Well what do you expect?

It's got an onboard graphics chipset. They all suffer from poor performance when you're doing anything more than watching YouTube videos.

        • I didn't expect anything? What's your point?

      • Nah you just have to make sure you're using a media player that takes advantage of the built in graphics for decoding (using dxva). Certain builds of Media Player Classic Home Cinema for instance.

Just tested and $599 still valid! Poor negative vote!!!

  • Good deal, but the laptop seems a bit below average in performance.

  • drats… no optical drive.

    • +1

This is a netbook not the regular notebook. Don't think you find a netbook with optical drive anywhere.

  • Hi all, be careful of this offer, you may not get the cashback.

I just checked the Acer Cashback Website and the cashback finishes on 28/08/09. So if you outside WA and getting delivery I can assure you that the netbook won't arrive intime to claim the cashback.

    See for yourself

Looks like they've just extended the cashback period

Now shows cashback offers ends 31 Oct 2009

  • Mayocrewz, You raised a valid point there. But bear the following in mind;

    1. If you order and pay in time, we always take payment, and invoice at the time of despatch, your invoice should be within the cashback period. So, please, if you want this Netbook, don't delay!

    2. Acer is the Queen of cashback. They are well known extend cashbacks very often. This is NOT a guarantee they will extend or keep this cashback the same.

  • Acer is currently offering $89 Cashback on these!! UPDATE These are the 6-cell models which have an $89 cashback!!

  • Just for people who plan to buy netbooks……

I bought the MSI X320 which has a Atom Z530 chip……its really really slow. Takes around 2 mins to load Windows Vista, movies lag on full screen (audio is faster than picture on full screen….works ok when not in full screen mode) and does not playback HD content smoothly (lags and break then skips frames)

Other than that, its fine for emailing and internet browsing.

Also have the MSI Wind 100+ which uses N280 chip…..I think it works much better

    • +1

Part of the issue with running intensive video/graphical applications on cheaper notebooks is that they all come with onboard graphics chipsets.

You would have the same problem even if this notebook had a Intel Core 2 2.6Ghz, the graphics card (or lack there of) bottlenecks the entire system.

  • +2

Seijai, running Vista on any Netbook is not a good idea! Some would even go as far as saying running Vista at all is not a good idea.

Netbook, by defination do not come with Vista.

This Netbook runs very nicely on XP Home which it comes with. Throw Windows 7 on it, and its even better!

    • from the review i gather this netbook doesn't play movies smoothly? is this only the case if, as in the example used, u are running other applications? i mainly want it for watching a movie on the plane, and wifi while i'm on holiday.

      • +1

SD content it should run fine. HD content is another matter, but then again, who needs to play HD content on a 11" screen.

  • sounds like, from the review, that the laptop may be frustratingly slow. otherwise a good deal.

  • +1

So tempting… delivery insurance is 5% and cc surcharge is 2.3%, so it's back to $640. Minus the $89 cashback that's roughly $550.

1.33Ghz, wonder if that is fast enough

    • i dont think insurance is a good buy. the chances of losing it is farrr less than 1/20. i haven't had a missing post since the day i started online purchasing. far more than 200 exchanges by now.

      • True, but,,, no-one ever needs insurance until some does goes unexpectedly wrong! ;)

  • nice price but at 11.6" the only thing making this a netbook is the lack of optical drive, i have the 8.9" model and they really are great [same as this but a bit smaller

also like the seller says, acer are always doing cashback, you may find the cashback offer will rise a little or it may drop a little, when i got mine i had a $99 cashback [they will offer you extra warranty instead as well]

if you need a netbook i'd say go for it

also anyone worried about optical media shouldn't be, simply copy your disc to a usb drive [from a desktop] and install a virtual cd drive [slysoft have a great free one] and use your usb drive as a cd/dvd drive, or better still a 2.5" hdd can be stacked with backed up cd/dvd software/media collection

  • +1

just realised that this is the 1.33ghz version, not sure how that stacks up against my 1.6ghz atom model

also i'd like to point out that even though the screen is a decent resolution for HD the processor isn't, well at least my 1.6 isn't, you can change the architecture of the HD video to suit the processor but the quality will suffer, on the other hand why bother watching HD on a 11.6" screen? lol

  • Tried to get officeworks to price match and avoid the insurance/cc surcharge but they came back and said the models were different. AOD751HX insted of AOD751H. Anyone know what the difference is? Sales dude said it was a widescreen, smacks myself in the head, mate they are both widescreen! Might just wait for acer to replace this model then. Apparently it's being discontinued for better CPU and screen. Hopefully it's still in the same price range.

    • There will always be a better model and lower price. So I would not worry about missing out.

  • most likely has different OS mate

    Hi pongie,

    You said:-

"Tried to get officeworks to price match and avoid the insurance/cc surcharge but they came back and said the models were different. AOD751HX insted of AOD751H."

Officeworks are trying to weasle out of pricematching less 5%.

They tried this on me when I pricematched the ACER AOD150. Officeworks often use slightly different 'model' numbers on their system. In my case AOD150 instead of AD150. If you look at the actual item (in this case the ACER 751) you will see the actual ACER model number.

I had to call ACER's sales department to have it confirmed that there was only one D150 on the Australian market, and that Officeworks stock was the same as the stock in other Australian stores. When I went back to OfficeWorks with this info., and the ACER reps. name, they admitted it was the same item.

  • I noticed that too, at another officeworks (didn't bother trying was looking at something else). The model on the label with the price tag as AOD751HX, but there was another tag with specs and it was AOD751H. Was kinda an impulse decision to get one. Don't really need it but it's nice to have.
