  • Does this work with devices other than those iOS devices?

it'll work with any 3.5mm output jack. just the description copied and pasted from meritline.

      • I love how they list which iphones it works with! Makes me reread what it is, or even think its apple endorsed.. Sadly no, its just 3.5 to 3.5, 11mtrs long.
I use an apple tv/iphone so dont need 11 meters of cable in the lounge room.
But good sharing music with your neighbours

  • thanks op

  • No. Will work with any phone or music player that has an audio out 3.5mm ( standard small female headphone socket ). At the receiving amp or stereo there should be the same, or use an adaptor to go to the old white/balck & red rca axillary audio innput.

great for tormenting the cat from a distance too

      cannot use straight card.

      Can't you read ???

      "Male to Male Black"

      • i think you should turn to the bible and consider how your opinion influences others.

We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.

Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.

Our heavenly Father understands our disappointment, suffering, pain, fear, and doubt. He is always there to encourage our hearts and help us understand that He's sufficient for all of our needs. When I accepted this as an absolute truth in my life, I found that my worrying stopped.

Damn only 33 ft, I was looking for 330 ft. :(

    NOTE
Twin strand cable would have, I think, significant resistive losses at 33 feet at the piddly ampage its pushed along at and may also have enough resistance to form an audio filter with devices that have an output or input capacitor going to ground.
    (may not sound good)

Honestly, with intentions of OP in mind, no one is going to care if it sounds good or not.

      • +7

Well its an audio cable isnt it?
I am suggesting that it may well sound pretty bad due to its length. Not audioplile bad, generally crap that anyone could hear, thus making it not be very useful.
It's only a few dollars, but it help some people to know this.

    • Based on your comment you don't really understand basic electronics/electricity.

At the "piddly ampage (sic)" the resistive losses will be less than at a high amperage. I^2.R

The RC filter you refer to will be way way beyond the audio spectrum even if there are ohms of resistance in the cable. Typically they are series capacitors to block DC though.

      • Sorry but they can easily enter the audio range.
There are two factors at play. The resistive losses of the cable and its relationship with the impedance of the following amplifier and the filter that a dubious quality cable can form with its capacitance and the resistance on the input of any following amplifier. Cheap crappy cable can easily measure around 3000pf and depending on the following resistance easily form audible low pass filter.
For musicians, the RC filter formed by the capacitance of a cable and the resistance to ground on an the input of a following amp are common. The simple filter formed by capacitance in longer cables and resistance to ground at the following input (depending on the specific set up) are easily into the audio range, Ask any guitarist. Longer cables straight to the output of an amp typically cause a low pass filter IE high end roll off.

I can dig deep and and find examples if you want but trust me its a common issue. (Hint look at my avatar)

Be warned, so far every 3.5mm cable I've ordered from Meritline has been absolute rubbish quality. The plugs weren't even to specification, as when I measured them with a micrometer they were all far too small for the sockets! Shaving a fraction of a millimetre off the plug diameter might save them money, but it will mean poor contact with your headphone sockets. At best you'll have to jiggle the plug around to make a connection, at worst you'll break your socket as there is too much movement so when trying to jiggle it you'll snap it off. One of them was so flimsy, the tip broke off and is still stuck in the back of my surround-sound speaker box! I have no idea how to remove it.

I ordered four different types of cheap heaphone cables from Meritline when they had specials, and they were all completely unusable. I don't trust this one either.

      Appreciate the warning.

Lol with a cable that long, would the music even reach the other end in one piece? (taking into account losses, attenuation, interference Etc)

    • +5

It does reach the other end, but it takes a long time.

    • +1

No. 11m is so far that electricity can't go that far in a cable. /sarcasm

      Of course it will.

  • Thanks. I can use this. Anyone who says it is too long to be any good should be ignored. Thats just thilly!

    • I would take note of the comment above about the connectors being loose.

The laws of physics won't override crappy quality even though OzB seems to think that even if crap, if it's cheap then it's a bargain…

I have ordered a few 1m 3.5mm cable from DX and this lot and they are all rubbish. My meter measured 10x the resistance as compared with those ordered from Amazon. I can only conclude it uses thinner cooper wire if any. This is 11m and hence 11x the resistance to the one I have ordered.

    Cheap clothes line cable?

  • Someone tell the ACCC about false advertising. 33ft = 10m, not 11m.
