  • makes it tempting considering the reliability issues of the 1.5tb :)

    • do tell …

    • reliability issues? do you mean the bad seagate batch that has now been fixed?
Or just the fact that if the drive goes down you lose 1.5tb of data?

      • i've talked to 4 mates who've bought this drive ~1month, 1 started clicking within a day, 1 after a week. russian roulette anyone? :) still, 1 year store warranty and 3 year WD warranty should be fine… especially if you have everything backed up on dvd O:)

oh i am sorry MR I DO NOT LIVE IN WA. I didnt know local deals weren't welcomed here. Maybe you should look at the amount of Fluidtek deals before you vote this one down.

      • -2

at least they do deliver to outside of NSW or do they? couldn't find it on the site.

        • +1

They don't, at least not yet. I'd suggest maybe doing some research prior to posting.

    • yeah, no need for neg vote just because it's a WA exclusive deal.
Tempting - however I don't like the "green" range of WD HDDs.

      • -1

i'm only neg-ing it because they keep advertising their deals here and it's only 'walk in' for a day… or some promotion along that line.

i never neg'd the previous ones, just starting to see a pattern. hope they don't turn into fluidtek

        • Your reasons for the negative vote are not valid.

As somebody from WA I'm very happy for them to continue offering us bargains, walk-in or otherwise.

    • -2

While I wont -ve this deal, I agree with you, there are a lot of deals lately that can only benefit a small area.
If a store in my area had a bargain that you could only get if you walked in I wouldn't post it here as most users here couldn't get there to take advantage. Lets face it the site here is OzBargain, not WABargain or NSWBargain.

    • Invalid -ve vote revoked. Some understandable concerns, but it is invalid to vote against a deal due to lack of delivery. Conversely, it is invalid to vote against a delivered deal on the basis of a pick-up only price comparison.

Fluidtek (as much as I despise it) sells 1.5TB for $135

Moot point, given that they are based in the eastern states and do not deliver. This is a similar sorta deal, but for WA customers. Taking into consideration the freight costs, I think $139 is a fair price to pay.

      • +2

very fair considering they were on "special" at austin over the past 2wks for $159. guessing its the 4 platter though… not that it makes much difference :P

      • +1

I wouldn't say the point was moot, it provides a frame of reference for this price from a known, if somewhat cantankerous, quantity! ;)

  • +2

ye Fluidtek has the Samsungs for $135. Different brand mate.

I'm on the other side of Australia but I can recognise a good deal when I see one. This is especially good for WA'ers because they don't have to pay high price of shipping from eastern states. If there's anything faulty you guys can take it straight back instead of sending it to NSW/QLD/VIC..

    • Whilst this is a good deal, I am not too sure on Austin's 'support' quality. So buyers, please do your research before making the commitment to buy! :)

      • +1

I can't say what exactly happens with WD, but I've just RMA'd a Seagate 1TB and it was all done through the manufacturer's website, no need to go near the reseller! ;)

Mine was part of the bad batch mentioned above, it'll be interesting to see if Seagate comes to the party with the promised "free data recovery" for these models on return! ;)

        • WD returns are simple. Logon to the website, put in your serial number, request RMA, fill in your details, send it off to Singapore. Receive new drive within (usually) 5-7 working days. Costs about $20 to post but you don't have to wait weeks and weeks for a local store/distributor to handle it (and basically post it to Singapore for you).

I personally, due to some past experiences, tend to avoid Austins (nothing serious, I just find other stores better) but this is a pretty tempting deal.

        • Update for anyone still looking….Seagate screwed me on the "free data recovery", just got back a plain vanilla refurb replacement drive, no sign of my Wolfenstein 2 savegames, er I mean important data! ;)

On the plus side though, exactly 7 day turnaround Newcastle>Sydney>Singapore>Newcastle so I can't really complain too much about that! :)

  • WD 1.5TB drive sold out.

Finally something for us Westerners. We get screwed out of 75% of the good deals on OB.
