Congrats EC, job well done mate. Thanks for your contributions.

I'm very tempted to get one of those 4k monitors, how long do I have to make up my mind?

    • +25

a true ozbargainer would BUY first …THINK later

      • +1

I did that and I'm not stuck with a 4k monitor that i hate..

        • Why do you hate it?

        • +5
        • @poppingtags:

"I did that and I'm NOT stuck with a 4k monitor that i hate.."

        • +3

You can still hate something even though you don't own it.
But yeah, Vladdo's comment doesn't make sense.

        • +20

Woops.. I meant to say "I did that and I'm noW stuck with a 4k monitor that i hate.."

Ok.. 4k.. it's cool and all, however.. there are a few things which annoy the f$&k outta me..

Text size.. @4k in native res, it's not usable.. So you have to use win 8.1 for text scaling @ 150%.. that's all fine if you use a single monitor, but when using 2 other monitors @ 1080p, any text etc also gets scaled so you have windows which are MASSIVE and horribly scaled..

I bought a Philips 288p so the comments refer directly to that..
Input lag.. So I have 2x 1080@120hz monitors on the side, so the input lag of around 60ms (yes, i've tested it) is REALLY noticable..
I have 2x 280x cards, which for the most part give you 60fps @ 4k, however, combined with input lag you can't really game on it.. not when you're used to 120fps.. I can't really decide to use it as my main desktop monitor, or have it as a side monitor.. It's reasonable as a main desktop, however, i then have to play games on the side 120hz monitor..
Sleep mode.. Sometimes it wakes, sometimes it doesnt.. goes into some sort of limbo mode.. the on/off button doesn't work that well so you have to hit it 10 times before it turns off.. Sometimes the monitor just turns off and won't come back without a reboot.. Sometimes when it does come back from sleep, it'll get stuck @ 640x480..
I'm forever getting flicker.. Whether that's an AMD driver issue or that's how the monitor is, but you'll just get from time to time all monitors switch to black and then come back to normal desktop.. sometimes it'll say "Enumerating Display 1" for a few seconds.. sometimes it'll even crash and you'll have to reboot.
The buttons at the front are very hit and miss..you kinda have to stand on them to get them to work.. The monitor comes with a "SmartControl" windows app which is just an OEM rebrand of a Portrait Displays app so it allows you to use that instead of the buttons on the monitor but it's so slow.. changing any settings means a 5+ sec wait before it does it..

Photography work on it looks great.. Can't argue there.. photoshop/lightroom is amazing in 4k.. I can view photos from a 5d Mk3 @ 60% of their size, as opposed to 30% on a 1080p display.. Even tho it's a TN panel, you'd be hard pressed to see a massive difference over an Apple IPS display..

As a gaming/desktop monitor, it's annoying.. Maybe the Samsung is 1000% better.. don't know. But this Philips monitor is just very…. urrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh

        • -1

          @Vladdo:

You currently game on 4k monitors you need to wait till next year for DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.0

          its not the monitors fault

          SHouldve done your research

its a great deal for regular users tho

        • +2

@furythree: Rubbish.. The samsung and the asus monitors don't suffer from high input lag, even tho it uses the same AOC panel.. I bought mine 2+ months ago so there was no review comparing all the AOC based monitors.. one just assumes that all AOC panels perform the same, but obviously they don't.. I think the philips would be heaps better if it had the same input lag as the samsung & asus..

        • +1

@Vladdo: Thanks for the detailed review. Interesting that you rate the TN 4K as good as an IPS. I would like to see one of these panels in the flesh before buying one.

        • @Vladdo:

I have 2x 280x cards, which for the most part give you 60fps @ 4k,

This is the only surprising claim for me, so I'm wondering what exactly you're running and at what settings, to be getting a solid 60FPS; the rest of your points I agree with.

Games like Metro: Last Light, TWR:2, or Company of Heroes 2 will make even an R9 295X2 come to a screeching halt at 4K. The R9 295X2 struggles to break 30FPS on Crysis 3 @ 4K.

You need Tri-SLI Titans at a minimum to be able to push 60FPS in a majority of Triple-A games at 3840×2160, and even then, the framerate is just barely breaking the 60FPS barrier (the minimum framerate still dips into Powerpoint levels when SHTF on screen).

You've also failed to mention that a majority of games do not support those resolutions and even if by some miracle they run, they'll scale terribly (stretching, illegible font, FOV issues, crashes, graphical artifacting, visual tearing, etc.) That usually stops you before the input lag does.

4K gaming is just a pipe-dream right now.

        • @Vladdo:
what are you talking about? its not input lag

Hdmi 1.4 and DP1.2 do not have enough bandwidth to carry that high resolution and framerate signal

There are currently 3 monitors on the market right now that can handle 60fps@4k but it really struggles

anyway i wasnt talking about input lag. im talking about video signal bandwidth

if you buy the next years models you wont have either problem

        • +1

          @furythree: I suggest you have a watch of.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5YXWqhL9ik

I'm not even going to address any of your inaccuracies..

        • @Vladdo:

Windows fails at HiDPI. Switch to a better operation system.

        • @Amar89:

If your running everything on ultra with all the AA/AF on, ive got a 980 powering 3 of these samsung 4k's and i game on single monitor fine, usually med/high without AA/AF and that generally gets me around 50-60fps (playing bioshock infinite atm, and its benchmark utility confirms this)

And ive yet to find a game thats been released in the last few years that doesnt support 4k.

      • +3

Not At all, an Ozbargainer would think, compare then buy:)

      • +2

I think more like BUY first and JUSTIFY later

        • no, its BUY first…. then make it up to the wifey later (its her BDay!!) :-)

  • +1

Congrats EC on your millennium (?) post. Thanks so much for your contributions. Great to hear that SE come to help you reach this milestone. Nice prices as well

    • Thanks aim and special thanks to SE for these nice prices. Pretty much 2TB HDD and 4k monitor and cheapest in AU

  • +2

Conrats EC on your 1,000th post. May this be an epic post!

  • +2

    4k Monitor - $549 - $20 = $529

Also technically it's a UHD monitor, not 4k.

  • Thanks EC. Just ordered a 2TB

  • +1

I'm pretty sure the internal hard drive inside the samsung can be used for upgrading the PS4 to 2tb storage, considering it is 2.5" & 2tb, if anybody was interested. I did the upgrade recently with the amazon samsung hard drive deal posted a few weeks back.

    • Yep. Looks like it.

    • +3

I googled, find M3 are hardwired USB, so cant be used on PS4, better check before you buy.

    • It has the spinpoint m9t but the usb connection was soldered on for an M3 I bought

As far as I know, a seagate backup plus is the only way to go.

  • Has anyone upgraded from 2560x1600 to 4k - Is it worth it?

    • prob not unless you get something bigger than 30"

  • +2
    • just for the 1000th post.
  • +3

Congrats EC for your 1000th post and thanks for your contribution to the Ozbargain community. Keep it coming

  • +2

Congratz on your 1000th post!! Positive vote because of that (shhh dont tell anyone!)

  • +1

Great deal on this samsung 2TB, definitely cheapest around

Also there are quite a few 2TB portable hard divers on sale on Amazon atm (around the same price or cheaper with shipping, I think):

    $96 USD Delivered
Seagate Expansion 2TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive (STBX2000401)
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ILALU9G/ref=ox_sc_sfl_ti…

    $101 USD delivered

Not sure how they all compare in terms of specs but at least with this deal the shipping will be alot faster and with local warranty :D

    congrats

  • Samsung U28D590D 4k UHD 28 Inch 1ms LED Monitor LU28D590D/XY $539 after discount

should say $519 in description ;)

    Thanks heaps and congrats EC

    • It did, but was changed from $519 to $539 recently.

Initially it was priced at $549 before discount but is now $539 before discount.

      • He is putting the prices after said discount though. Also, with the code it appears to be $530.20 delivered http://i.imgur.com/s0DLzZQ.png

        • Yeah I missed that you have to buy the 2TB drive to get free shipping.

The web page price was $549 too originally when I made my first post (hence saying it was $529)

          Should be
          $539 - $20 discount + shipping ($11.20 for 4000)

  • +1

Got a 2TB - thanks for posting. Congrats!

  • Bought a 2TB, all shipping options were free as well :) Thank you!

  • +2

Congrats EC - you've reach your first 1000th, keep going for the next ! :)

    Want to add on :
    There's another Samsung model S22D300H - $139 = $119 after further $20 off

Also as long as you buy the 2TB portable drive, you enjoy free shipping entire order, not limited to just the samsung monitors

    Best regards
    SE

    • +1

Thanks SE :) and thanks for these great deals

Ive added he later monitor too

    • Hi Rep, could you please look into Ticket ID 30156. I got charged for shipping. Thnx

  • I'd check ebay to see if these are available and if so, compare the price at 85%. If cheaper, wait for the sunday deal.

    • +1

Just checked ebay for the 2TB hhd and same price delivered on Sunday with 15% discount also from SS, so may as well get it here direct if wants.

  • +1

Congrats EC!Perfect timing for a 2TB deal. Was looking for one today :)

  • +2

Great work EC. You're in line for a virtual trophy!

  • +9

Congratulations on your 1,000th EC. You're a true asset to the community. Love your work with this deal, and the fact you were able to get your very own coupon code!

    • +2

Thanks TA, im following your footsteps :)

      • +2

don't follow too closely - it's kind of a squeeze in there ;)

  • +1

The pictures used in the 4k monitor information are such BS. Comparing FHD and 4k, making FHD look like blurry crap. Yes 4k is better but I hate it how they distort the different to such a large degree.

  • On one hand, good on ya EC and thank you for all the deals that you've posted!

On the other, **** you because I'm now $628 poorer for something that I could never justify buying before since I already have a 32in full HD LCD…but now… sigh. And heck we could all use another 2TB portable HDD. :D :P

  • Is the portable Hard Drive 5400 or 7200?

    • +1

It is a spinpoint M9T so 5400 with 32mb cache

  • can't find any reason not to +vote you ;)
    thanks

  • Dude, EC, thanks for being so invaluable to all of us, and helping us here "save" money :P
Lets see what kind of deal you can drum up for your 2000th post, eh ?

    • We don't want to wait that long, can't we make it the 1100th post? :-)

      • +2

im hoping for one at my 1000th deal (which is 106 deals away) . This is 1000th post

  • I wonder any physical shops sell this Samsung M3 too which I can go for a price match, at least not at officework …

    • +7

Personally, price-matching it starting to frustrate me. The (often) crap involved… and it's a slap in the face for the shop striving to offer the best deals - They lose-out, while Officeworks sits-back & does nothing, gets the sale anyway.

"Thanks for the deal, I'll use it to reward another shop instead"

  • Shame about the limit of 1 per customer for the hard drive. Been needing to get two 2TB portable HDDs.

Luckily Amazon have some good prices on 2TB drives, at the moment, and no quantity limit.

    • Free shipping.

      Buy it two different times.

      • Was going to, but figured one of the orders would be denied.

  • Just got email said mwave had Samsung U28D590D 4K 28' monitor for $499 + shipping. Limit to first 50 customers.

  • Free shipping in title is misleading.

  • What RPM is the 2TB hdd? Looking for a 7200rpm hdd for my Xbox.

    • +1

What difference will it truly make?

There's a lot more to HDDs/motors/engines/everything than just the RPM.

    • +1

See comments above before repeating questions. It has a Samsung Spinpoint M9T 5400rpm with 32mb cache.

The biggest 7200 PS4 drive is 1.5Tb AFAIK

  • Can I pay through paypal instead once I have clicked bank transfer?

  • +3

Well done EC, I still reckon your Microsoft Office deal, was the deal of the decade.

    • +4

Thanks ilostnemo … i agree, the MS office was epic in terms of savings. The office retailed for ~ $500 and we basically got it for $15, some got it for $10 using USA as country and others got it for $8 using NZ i think

      • Wow, went digging for that deal to have a look, can't believe how many times Office has been listed here on OZBargain, even many times by yourself EC. Was that this deal below.
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/79709
That was a great deal for those who got it. I got it a good year ago from here too, but different deal.

        • +1

No that was not the one this is THE DEAL

The reason why that deal was so good is because it work with hotmail. And back in the day, getting 800+ vote was an impressive feat because there werent as many member as it there are now.

  • Is the code working for Intel NUC?

  • +2

so how are we suppose to get free shipping when the hdd is out of stock?

    • Seems to be in stock now, Saturday 2:45 pm.

  • +1

    Congrats EC.

  • Thanks great price for Samsung HDD, purchased and will remove from case to add into my laptop!!

    • +3

As mentioned above M3 are hardwired USB.

      • Bugger, thanks futaris, pays to read comments in detail, will send emai requesting cancellation, should be alright as it will be received before they ship on Monday

  • Congrats EC. Appreciate the good work.

  • Oh man, is this expired?

  • Looks like it, Just tried.

  • Congrats EC…your input is most appreciated.
