  • Wifi calling available yet on Virgin mobile ?

  • +1

Does anyone know when display models of the 6's will be in stores? I just want to see the 6 plus to confirm whether or not it is too big… Thanks :)

    • Same…

    • +5

Try and put a slice of bread in your pocket

That's pretty close to the real thing

      • Sandwich or toast slice…or that really fat cafe style fruit loaf, come to think of it, being Apple that might be a more accurate fruity simulacrum? ;)

    • +3

Normally it's on release day so Sept 19 I think

    • +1

It will be available at the Apple Store on the 19th. Not sure about other stores.

    • +6
    • You could go to a telco today and try out a phone that has the closest dimensions. It won't be an exact match and you won't be able to test iOS, but it'll give you a feel for using a larger device.

  • +1

Its a good deal for a contract, usually when you do the sums contracts work out much more expensive than prepaid + buying outright. It would be hard for me to justify spend $1249 for a phone, especially when I can get something for less than half the price from the competitor that does the things I want a phone to do and does it just as well as this phone.

    • +1

yea for virgins case it seems contracts are cheaper this time around.

      Virgin: 70x24 = 1680
      something like
      jeenee mobile $25 for 1.5gig: $1249+25x24 = 1849
even if you use vayas 18 plan for comparison: $1249+18x24 = 1681

Looks like Virgin triumphs over mvno this time around.
Ofcourse the big three having the cheapest option to be 70/month for 16gig ip6 will be more expensive than outright though.

  • +1

I hope Optus will implement more towers if they get more customers.
Their 4G is already slow enough thanks to so many MVNOs overselling.

    • +3

700Mhz 4G is coming early next year, and the new iphone supports it (band 28).

This is going to change everything for Optus I think and release a lot of extra bandwidth. There will be many indoor devices that will have a strong enough 4g signal which will take an enormous load off their 3g network. In my opinion and experience they are currently number 3 in the cities, behind telstra then vodafone, primarily because their 3g network is so oversubscribed and their indoor 4g coverage isn't good enough.

    out of stock…
virginmobile online order is out of stock for iphone 6 plus

    move to forum

    • +2

It's never been in stock, they only sold the iPhone 6 yesterday. Word is they'll open up 6+ orders some time before the 19th.

  • +2

Optus will let you share your data with any other device (e.g. iPad, Mobile dongle).
You just have to pay $5 (one-off) for an extra SIM card.

  • +1

What would be the best option if I make a lot of intenational calls?

    • +7

      Move overseas?
Jokes aside: if you make a lot of international calls, you should be looking at VOIP. They save a lot of money. Which countries do you usually call?

      • Indonesia. Any suggestion apart from VoIP?

    • a home phone

    • +1

If you have a spare old phone, you can get a free sim from Lyca. Call rates start from 1c a minute. My mum uses lyca to call HK, had a $10 recharge, lasted ages.

  • +1

anyone know if it's easy to unlock iPhone from virgin network?

    • +2

They don't usually lock iphones now adays

    • +1

i always unlocked my iPhones on the day I got it by either requesting it online or by phone. No problems at all.

      • thanks ilostnemo and willbaba, did it with voda b4 but wasnt sure the other providers.

looks like i will be ordering one…

  • -3

Come on every good Ozb know it's better buy outright and shop for post paid no contract.

    • I will get $450 credit and 2.5GB for my $40 (+$27 for 64GB phone) plan. I want virgin as I need international calls included and like the 4G network. This means I will be paying about $25 a month for the calls [($67*25)-999 divided by 24]. The closest no contract post paid package Virgin has is $35 ($500 and $2GB). Looks like a saving of $10 per month.

      • -2

Yeh get locked in on one carrier vs choice of many. Post paid is almost always more expensive.

        • For my particular requirement…. 4G, included international calls and reasonably high data (I do use about 2.5GB a month and finish nearly all my call allowance), could you help me by pointing out which prepaid/other post paid connection is cheaper than the $25 a month I will effectively be paying for calls (for the 64GB)? I looked but could not find any so subscribed to the Virgin plan. Still got time to cancel.

        • @lahiruwan:

To be honest you'll probably get the best deal with virgin in that case. They seem to have the best post-paid prices atm. They were really competitive a few years back when they were relatively new, then eased of now ramped up the competitiveness again.

      • better if you got the $60 plan ($700, 4GB) + $19 for the phone.
an extra $2 /month for an extra $150 credit and 2GB data.

If you upgrade or swap to Virgin Mobile then you get another 2GB on top.

        • +1

It is an extra $12. Not $2.

    • It's also a lot harder to scrape together the outright price than to budget for a contract.

      • -2

Maybe if you are on centrelink, or if you blow all your money pay check to pay check.

    • +2

Used to be the case, but the current post paid byo deals suck.

  • With unlimited calls v2v, is that just virgin or does Optus network come under it aswell ?

    • +2

      Just Virgin.

      • -1

Soon to be Unlimited calls to everyone with an iPhone 6… :)

  • +3

International Calls are included in your Virgin Plan - this makes me stay with them having $700 to spend every month and will carry over unused credit to the next month!

Virgin will also unlock your IPhone for free. I have done it with the past 5 IPhones I got from Virgin Mobile.

    • I am still surprised they sell locked phones on contracts.

  • +2

For the discussion of Phone on a plan Vs BYO…. I think we also have to consider the fact that most carriers waive the last few months of handset payments off if upgrading. With Virgin this time it seems they waive 5 months off. That can add up to quite a saving over buying the phone upfront.

    • Also time value of money which nobody mentioned. A dollar today worth more than a dollar in a month time.

  • anyone know if I can sign on virgin mobile contract directly from Apple store for the iphone6? I am sure that we can do it for Telstra, Optus and Vodafone. But not sure about Virgin? Anyone can confirm this? Thanks. Try to get the iphone6 on the 19th, as Apple Store is the best place to get with plenty of stock normally.

    • No

  • -3

This is a rip off they make you feel its OK wasting money on this phone by paying it of in a per month basis. No one in their right state of mind would pay over a grand for this when a phone with almost the same specs was 1/3 of the price in 2012.

    • +6

      I wish that was true

      • -4

Unfortunately many get sucked into the hype. Apple's are masters at this at that is why their business strategy of limiting supply is so succesful. I truly feel sorry for those which get baited :(

    • +11

Just stop… Specs don't paint the whole entire picture. If you were to compare a phone 2012 with the same specs… you would obviously know that the difference between two phones…

      • +2

2012 model phones didn't even have these kind of specs, so I don't know what he is going on about.

        • Did you look at the the reply to the first comment of this deal. Nexus 4 is the phone I'm reffering to.

        • +1

          @Davo93:

My father got Nokia Lumia 520, it's spec probably can't even run android, but Lumia 520 in window 8.1 run as smooth as my bro's galaxy s4.

I can find this Nexus 4 vs iPhone 5. (not even 5s or 6)
"don’t fool yourself into thinking that you’re getting more than an iPhone 5 for half the price. The camera, build and graphical power of the latest iPhone are greater."
          http://www.cnet.com/au/news/is-apples-iphone-6-just-googles-…

        • +1

          @Davo93:

You can't be serious?.. The nexus didn't even have 4g, uses 720p 4.7 inch screen, 32 bit processor, and it wasn't even really readily available in 2012 anyways. The nexus phones offer good value for money, but google take shortcuts to keep the price down, usually by providing avg build quality, poor camera and poor battery life.

          http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5048&idPhone2=…

The closest thing to compare this with from 2012 would probably be a note 2.

    • -1

You are arrogant to believe that people are not in their right mind. If it were really a rip-off, don't you think people would have caught on after 7 further iterations of iPhones? Apple are obviously driving value for their customers, which is why they are the largest company in the world. People who buy iPhones are happy to spend the premium for a no-compromise experience and could not give two shits about the Nexus or Android, because it's not comparable. They also don't care because it's JUST A PHONE. They are too busy living their life to waste time thinking about a thousand dollars.

'Truth knowers' such as yourself line up behind Google and Asian brands but don't realise how dubious they are. Google are in the business of data, they are not a charity. You think you are getting a deal; you are not, you are the commodity. Apple has at least more straightforward intentions, being committed to making products only and not gathering data unless it's to improve the the quality of their products.

Serious case of penny wise and pound foolish, 'true ozbargainer'.

    • +7

This is a case of a parrot calling people sheep. Read the specs again instead of trolling. It's not 2009, insulting apple users is seriously old. I have been developing on multiple mobile platforms since symbian and they all have their merits and value. Thanks for your sorry feels though, make sure you feel doubly sorry for the iWatch.

Thanks OP, I might just pick this up.

  • -1

If you really want an iPhone 6/6+ this is a much better deal than buying outright and going with an MVNO. Once you subtract the $1250 cost of the iPhone 6+ 128Gb, you're getting a $450/4.5Gb 4G KB billed service for $22/month!

    That's a pretty decent carrier subsidy/discount.

For comparison, on the Virgin BYO plans you're looking at ~$55 for $500/4GB.

    • What are you talking about? You are getting 2.3GB, not 4.5GB. Also $300 credit.

      • I'm talking about the $40 Plan. But I made a mistake - the 2GB bonus is already added. OZB won't let me edit the post.

  • Virgins data speed and connection isn't the best
was with them for 2 years had heap of trouble but could have been just me

  • +1

what about this simple math: save your money for about $450 for next 3 months, wait until some of the iphone 6 plus issues weeded out (If Any), then You buy the iphone 6 plus outright for what ever capacity price you need, then you get the best value post paid from whatever network carriers that is best for your area, then a year later, as iphone 7 release, sell it in ebay for 30-50% off the price you paid, then… i would say you would have practically saved some good money there. Correct me if i am wrong though :)

  • +1

the 2gb bonus is only for those not currently on an optus-linked network. for those people who are on networks like tpg, we'd be stuck on the measly 300mb with this plan

    • +3

Just port to a $2 Vodafone sim, then port back:)

      • how do i do that? i can't seem to find a planless sim on their website

        • Buy a $2 sim
activate it online or over the phone (Port your number to vodafone in this step)
          Done!

  • -2

    iPhones, lol.

  • +11

Whenever iphone comes out, people bashes it. Whenever an android phone comes out, it hardly got bashed. This shows that Apple users/fans have more manners and highly educated.

    • Coz Apple users dont give a damn about it what has been released ,,, its crap anyways watever they try to make or try to make it sound like a iphone killer or an apple product..

    • +2

I am sure there are plenty of mannerless bogans on both sides of the apple / android fence.

I just don't get why people get so fired up over the issue it's just a phone ffs. People should just get whatever they feel most comfortable using, what does it matter what other people buy?

    • and highly educated.

Let me guess, you use Android? ;-)

  • +5

Lol, my iPhone just crashed trying to post here !!!

    • -2

You better rush out and order the iphone 6
it has to be better right?

  • +3

Accidentally liked this deal & can't remove it, unless your a real low end user of calls this deal is crap, better off with vodafone I think it's $82pm for 128gb, unlimited calls , 300mins international calls & 3 gig internet

  • -1

Lucky I sold my almost 4 yr old iPhone 4 32gb for $250 a couple of weeks ago, otherwise will be worth less.

Proof of the good value for money Apple commands. You get high resale value, unlike the Android cheap plastics (except my Xperia Z)

    • +5

You need high resale after dropping $1249 on a phone. Its all relative at the end of the day.

    • +7

A classic symptom of arrogant people. obviously everything you own are good stuff, even android phones when it's the particular model you chose to buy.

Let's see. Every iteration of iPhone pretty much cost around $1000 for a 32GB model.

You sold it for $250 and therefore lost $750.

I bought my Nexus 5 for $420 outright. Even if I don't get a single cent for it after 4 years, I will still be $330 better off.

      • -4

So the Nexus 5 is 'good stuff' is it?? I bought my Nokia 3310 in 2001 for $100. Used it till last year. Much better value than the Nexus even. To each his own!

        • Haters gonna hate. My post clearly states I'm using android now. Fanbois on both fences ruining it for everyone. I couldn't care less whether my iPhone costed a thousand dollars, my point is after four years of use I still get money out of it. And I did enjoy using the iPhone. To each his own.

  • -1

It's a good contract deal, because normally you would expect a 16GB base model, not the most expensive model.

But if you're the kind willing to buy outright and find a better call plan / prepaid, you can do a little bit better.

  • +11

Do we need to have this apple vs android argument every time an apple deal is posted?

I was a happy iPhone owner who switched to a nexus 5, still happy. both have pros and cons.

If u like the deal vote + otherwise stay off…

  • -8

The iPhone 6 is just as overpriced as all the other Apple products.. There's no bargain or value for money with this phone, (not yet anyways maybe when it goes on SALE) even with the well priced deal from virgin mobile the phone in general is way overpriced at around $1200 dollars..

With only 1GB of RAM OMG! Shame on you apple.

My $346 LG Pro 2 5.9" phone comes with 3GB of ram and a micro SD slot.

    • +2

Welcome to neg town. Population: you.

      • +1

        why

        • +4

on an apple thread you must include at least 1-2 positive notes about apple and how awesome it is while hiding your negative thoughts on the product within your comment… in other words take a course in apple marketing… :D

        • your surrounded but brainwashed mindless sheep mate.

        • +2

@scud70: Too bad no one is saying Apple is awesome on this post, they are all busy talking about Virgin and how much it's going cost them. What we do have are all the Android fanboys coming in to make themselves feel better about their Android phone by telling everyone how much they love their extra Mhz and GBs ;)

        • +2

@holden93: Do you go up to BMW drivers on the street and call them sheep because Toyota have cheaper cars and better fuel economy? Or is it just trolling on Apple posts?

    • +11

Why are there always so many haters on iphone deals? I use android myself but this is clearly a great deal and even android fans should be able to admit that. You may think its overpriced but other people can still see value in the product they are getting.

    • Aren't you folks tired of it already. 2009: "OMG iPhone specs are horrible. Only idiots will buy it and pay so much. My Microwave has more gigaflops."

      Repeat for 5 years.

      So the premise is either
      1) the 200million or so iPhone users are utter morons, because only specs matter. OR
      2) you like repeating things because internets?

I mean, I have both. I have friends that uses both or either one. It does not define their character nor their intellect. In fact, nobody really cares anymore. It's a phone. Build a bridge, walk over it.

  • +2

Take the argument to the forum :)

  • +2

Genius marketing… a $1249 (ridiculous in itself) phone becomes a bargain on a $70 plan… have to take your hat off to Apple … Brilliant!!

    • +1

It's brilliant, spend your R&D money on advertising and for your 'innovations' just copy other companies.

      • Good artists copy, great artists steal!!
