  • The price is awesome !

  • no webcam for that price (Mod edit - Wrong - The webcam IS INCLUDED as standard - see Dell confirmation below)

    • Correct,, as I highlighted in the spec's summary. (Edit - Wrong - The webcam IS INCLUDED as standard - see Dell confirmation below)
You have to shell out the extra for a mini 10 to get the webcam as you can't even option it onto the mini 10v, which seems crazy…

Strange. I ordered a mini 10v about 6 weeks ago, and it has a web cam in it. Maybe they've changed the build ?

      • Strange indeed!!!!
You could perhaps rationialise it if Dell had spec'ed the 10v down for this deal and made the webcam optional,,, but as I noted above, you can't even option the webcam onto the mini 10v… (Edit - Wrong - The webcam IS INCLUDED as standard - see Dell confirmation below)
        Weird.

Well. According to the Specification page:

    Camera
    Mini 10 and 10v:
    Standard 1.3MP webcam

So I guess both 10 and 10v would have a 1.3MP webcam? The differences seem to be:

    • CPU (N270 for Mini 10v, Z530 for Mini 10)
    • Chipset/Graphics (Intel 945GSE for Mini 10v, Intel IGMA 500 for Mini 10)
    • LCD Display (1024x600 for Mini 10v, 1024x576 for Mini 10)

and there are more options for Mini 10 (at a price of course).

    • Yes, right you are Mr Scott. (Edit - CONFIRMED BY DELL - The webcam IS INCLUDED as standard - see below)
But,, when you go through the build/customise/summary process for the mini 10v, the (inbuilt) webcam is NOT listed.
Also, the listing for the mini 10 has "With Built-in webcam" highlighted adjacent to the heading (which the 10v has not).
So for my own part then, I'd be uncertain whether the mini 10v will include the webcam…

Edit - I've sent the following RFI email to Dell:

With reference to the Dell Inspiron mini 10v Netbook (S510817AU) http://www1.ap.dell.com/au/en/home/notebooks/laptop-inspiron-10/pd.aspx?refid=laptop-inspiron-10&s=dhs&cs=audhs1

I note that the Product Features list for the mini 10v does NOT include an inbuilt webcam.
Going through the build/customise/summary process neither lists an inbuilt webcam, nor gives an option to include it in the build.

The listing for the mini 10 DOES include an inbuilt webcam.

BUT, the Tech Specs page clearly states:
      Camera - Mini 10 and 10v: Standard 1.3MP webcam.
Also, the "Features" link on the webpage includes a graphic depicting the inbuilt webcam, with the text: "Stay in Touch - The Mini 10 and Mini 10v's webcam gives you the freedom to chat with your friends and family".

Please verify that the Inspiron mini 10v DOES include the inbuilt Standard 1.3MP webcam as per the Specifications page on your website.

Should I hold my breathe waiting for a prompt (and conclusive) answer???

UPDATE - The mini 10v DOES include the inbuilt webcam - Confirmed by Dell.

I've just received a call from Dell confiming that both the mini 10v and mini 10 DO include the webcam!!!
The agent is emailing me a written quote to reflect the above.
I'm truly amazed that Dell phoned me within 15 minutes of my submitting the email above.

If you want the mini 10v at $449, you must place your order by mid-night tonight 2/9.
The price will go up by $50 tomorrow 3/9 (when the 10% discount expires), and a further $50 after 10/9 (when the $50 discount expires).
The Dell agent suggested placing the order by phone, to expedite the processing of the order (but that could be a sales commission/KPI/salary issue??).

    Live Long and Prosper,
    Jean-Luc.

    • I spoke to dell rep named Sam. He said 10v has no web cam, there is a webcam for mini 10 and latitude. I don't know who believe now

      • Well tjhia, that's really disappointing that we should be getting contradictory responses.
I can only suggest that perhaps you contact the "Team Leader" - Francesca - on her number from my email extract below and if need be quote her the written,, er,, quote, that I received.
PS. If you want to send me your email address via my OzBargain contact form, I'd be happy to send you a copy of the full Dell email of last night…
PPS. The actual Sales Person that I spoke with (last night, and again this morning) was Carol Rajan, who was very helpful.

Edit - See webcam confirmation from tonyl below.
