Looks good. How long is this coupon good for?
Is it single use? Is it only between major cities?
    More info please.

    • +1

Great news! Thanks to all the interest we've increased the number of coupon redemptions! You can keep clicking on the "Go to deal" button to get the $5 discount right up until we mark as expired on OzBargain.

Also some users have started an order and not completed it and then not had the coupon applied when they tried to start another order. If you start an order and don't complete it then make sure you cancel it before trying the coupon link again.

      Happy Sendling!

      • Good one.
Hey any chance of a small packet flat rate bag as discussed below?
There is a real need waiting to be met there.
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/162522#comment-2262221

        • We definitely hear and understand the desire for a small satchel. Currently we offer a door-to-door service so we need to pay for all three points of the pickup/transit/delivery process where the major costs are movement (transport) or time (wages) and not size for the most part.

However, we're trying to solve as much of the pain in delivery as possible and working on it at one step at a time. Will be feeding this feedback to the team so we can help design our feature roadmap.

We're negotiating better rates as time goes on but getting below a certain floor price would require people to drop off packages themselves which would require additional brick and mortar infrastructure. In the long term nothing is off the table yet we're just prioritising getting as much to market as quickly as possible.

          Thanks for the feedback :)

        • +1

          @sendle:
Well a lot of senders would be happy to forget the pick up part in favor of dropping off themselves. So many businesses are stuck with Australia Posts terrible lack of options for very small parcels. Its either a large letter $1.40 or the smallest parcel ~$8.
We would be happy to drop off if you had some kind of shopfront/hub.
Your business would make a real impact if you could cook up some kind of of flat rate $5 bags. Believe me, you wouldn't have to do much advertising!

Hi King. The coupon is valid for the first 100 redemptions. Sendle currently operates within and between these Australian cities (with more to come soon):
    - Adelaide
    - Brisbane
    - Canberra
    - Melbourne
    - Sydney

This page will be updated as more cities come on board:

      Nothing for Perth again!!!

You guys realise without our minerals Australia would be in a depression!!

      • +12

        Lol, Perth gets shafted everytime

        • +5

Yep.. even my comment is getting shafted.. At least we took the Brownlow!!

        • @Cardz: We're working on getting full coverage as soon as possible. If you try to create an order from Perth you can then opt-in to be alerted when it becomes available.

      • +16

        Nothing for regional Australia.

If it wasn't for our food you would all be starving! ;)

      • -1

you realise without the other states you would have no one to work in the mines.

        • +4

you realise without Tasmania……we probably wouldn't realise it was gone.

        • +1

You realise that without our power, there'd be no OzBargain.

    • What about the overseas mate? Am wondering if this company sending also parcel or courier to overseas?as the Australia post price is dearer. Thanks

  • +1

100 redemptions? So like 10 minutes on Ozbargain. Lol
    Thanks.

  • +1

Do you mean we have just 100 coupons to try for?
Or is each coupon good for 100 paxkage-shipments?

Also, what protection is there, eg, if a package goes missing (is, never delivered) or arrives damaged?

Finally, I couldn't find anyplace on your web site to request a coupon…?

    • +1

I think they mean the first 100 redemptions in total, so it will be over very quickly. If you click through to "send" the coupon is automatically applied.

  • +6

    "carbon-neutral" - wtf?

    • +2

      It's not that hard, surely?

They are probably buying carbon offset credits - currently they market for about $10-15 per tonne of CO2.

Almost all couriers, airlines, etc charge for this or at least offer it as an extra-cost option.

      • +1

Hi @llama, you're spot on the answer. We offset all emissions via Climate Friendly to support the Toyola Cookstove Project and the Tasmanian Native Forest Protection Project.

While the airline industry is starting to provide this option it is still very uncommon in post and package logistics.

We hope that improving the package sending process will encourage reuse of items that would otherwise be thrown away. To this end we are currently integrated into TuShare.com. It is 60x more efficient in terms of carbon emissions to send a pair of jeans from Brisbane to Perth than it is to make them from scratch. To do this within a city is 160x more efficient.

In terms of price the current base price of carbon emissions is $22/tonne on Carbon Friendly.

It doesn't take much to be a responsible corporation on this front.

  • Each coupon is good for 1 Sendle per user.

The first 100 orders with this link have the coupon applied.
    https://www.sendle.com/?coupon=OZBARGAIN

If there is enough interest that may be increased.

In terms of insurance every Sendle order is automatically covered by transit insurance up to $1000.
    http://support.sendle.com/knowledgebase/articles/389244-what…

    • And how do you manage to be Carbon Neutral, ie, in Transport?

      EVs, I hope…?

PS Also important: what if no one's available to accept delivery, during your drivers' / business day?

Others have a deal with Au Post (or maybe some AU Post shops, so I can visit nearby AP or Au Post shop to pick up… slightly longer hours of delivery.

others' deal w/ Au Post gets our pkg delivered to GPO Box.

      • Pigeons. We are not using fossil fuels.

        • Hehe, alas we couldn't find pigeons that could carry 10kg so we've instead had to use a variety of more conventional transportation options and then offset all emissions via Climate Friendly to support the Toyola Cookstove Project and the Tasmanian Native Forest Protection Project.

  • what about delivery hours?

  • +4

Looks like a great concept OP - and the known flat postage rate is a winner.

    • Thanks @TheBear!

    • +1

This is a great idea. I really hope they pull it off and it gets widespread usage. I get so lazy sometimes to even goto the postoffice. Hopefully they expand it to include pickup and deliver from McDonalds, KFC, plus anything else that requires pickup and delivery :P

  • +3

    Hi rep,

I often send things that are <300g in weight, however it costs me about $8 regardless of whether its interstate or otherwise. If you have any intentions for offering a lower weight tier (along with a slightly lower price), I'd definitely start using it.

    Cheers.

    • +1

Thanks ausmechkeyboards! We're going to provide the best prices that we can secure for door-to-door delivery. In many instances this will actually be cheaper than going to the post office. Obviously smaller sized and lower priced packages will always make it harder to have door-to-door delivery at the same cost efficiency.

    • I'm the same, I can work with a low weight tier, say 2kg.

      • Sending 2kg with Australia Post is the same price as sending up to 10kg with Sendle. $9.75 for within your city (which goes to $27.70 if you include the $1000 of insurance and signature option that are included with Sendle) and in the range of $16.70 for between cities. This coupon gives $5 off that price and we will pick up from your door.

        Hope that helps.

        • Furyou and ausmechkeyboards we're working hard to continue to bring the prices down even further — stay tuned!

        • 22kg within 50km with ap is only $9.75. shipping 10km from the east coast to perth can cost $20 or less.

        • @whooah1979:
          10kg, not 10km.

        • This sounds like it'll help a lot with selling 2nd hand clothing … :)

    • An eParcel for All would surely please many…

  • Couriers Please have a similar thing with their pre-paid vouchers (I think it's about $15 for up to 25kg and 1m^3 IIRC), so this is like a cheaper version for smaller packages and not having to pay up front, which is great.

Can definitely see myself using this in the future, but I'd definitely like to see better "deals" (e.g. discounts for pre-booking a number of shipments ahead of time, etc.)

  • "Sendle is an Australian first that lets you choose who’ll pay for delivery."

LOL I can see this being badly abused.

    • Hi zzyss, would be interested to see how you think this will be abused. The sender can elect that the receiver pays but the receiver still has to agree to pay. This means that the sender doesn't have to pay up front and then get reimbursed by the receiver if they are the ones who are meant to cover the cost. Would be keen for your feedback :)

      • One I can think of off the top of my head is an unscrupulous marketer who signs up for a bunch of accounts to con people into accepting a marketing info (samples, etc.) for delivery. Obviously we're not talking about stupid cheap trinkets and B2C, but rather B2B spam like sending USB keys with corporate crapware, etc.

        • +1

          Hi @zzyss. Thanks for clarifying.

          1) To receive a package the sender needs to know the receivers email address or phone number and the receiver needs to accept the package by filling in their details once they read the message from the sender.
          2) The receiver can not automatically pay for receiving a package when the sender requests it because they have to read the senders message and then put in their address and payment details.
          3) Sendle advises against receiving or paying for a package unless you know the person sending it to you, know the contents of the package or are expecting the package.

This sets the bar against unsolicited deliveries much higher than bulk email and letterbox drops.

          Does that address your concerns?

Let me know if you need further clarification.

          Cheers!

    • +8

can we all elect to have our deliveries paid for by jv?

(joking, jv, we love you - I never knew where the "neg" button was before your posts!)

    • +4

i like this option. i'm abit dubious as to how this works, but i'm more interseted in having someone pick up a package for me, and then deliver to me.

time and time again, there will be something on ebay or gumtree marked "NO POSTAGE, PICK UP ONLY"
and so if someone can pick up for me and i pay for the service, i'm all interested :)

      • +2

Hi timmy_tam, very happy to answer any questions about how Sendle works. We've also got a bunch of FAQs at http://support.sendle.com/

Sendle has been designed specifically with things like Gumtree or eBay in mind. So far we've had people use it in both cases for things that were listed as pick up only because the seller didn't want to have to go to the post office.

Gumtree works really well but currently eBay doesn't allow you to share email addresses via their messaging system (although if you pay with PayPal they share it with you in the receipt). Therefore we're working on a native eBay integration as well as SMS integration.

  • +8

    Totally agree with the above.
If there is one thing Australia needs, its is a "small parcel" service.
Currently with Aussie Post, if your item is over 2cm thick, its a parcel and it costs about $8 to send. Most countries do a "petite parcel" service. We just pay and pay with out oversimplified, overpriced postal system.

    • +2

      +1 Agree totally.

Sendle, if you guys concentrate on making small parcel delivery cheap and fast, I guarantee Australia Post will have big competition.

      • +9

        Right.
If they could do 500gram or less bag for a flat $5 they would kick Aust Post in the nuts like the greedy bastards deserve.
BTW The pick up part is not so important fpr many users, the actual cost is the kicker. No worries at all dropping off to local hubs if the price is right.
$5 bag/small parcel service that's where the gaping hole in the market is.

        • +1

This x10. You have said everything I could have ever wanted to say about it :)

        • BTW The pick up part is not so important fpr many users, the actual cost is the kicker.

+1. Most of us have gotten used to the lifestyle of going to the post office to send packages.
If you do away with the whole 'picking up from home' part, and can pass on the savings to make small package delivery cheaper, that'd be the winning formula I reckon.

        • I just sold some large items as part of a spring cleaning - Sendle would've been great for those at the > 2kg and < 10 kg.

  • +4

I like the idea of challenging AusPost. +1 from me.

Also, the FAQ section is pretty informative, nice.

  • +1

The more competition in this space the better. Temando is cheaper for same-city Sydney (<$8) but they are ~$20 for intercity.

I send a lot of small parcels for my business so am glad to hear of a new player!

  • +1

    Interesting

  • +1

Just wondering does the delivery driver usually collect a signature from the recipient ?
And if so what happens if the recipient is not at home.

I am totally sick of being carded by Aus Post contractors, when I am at home and waiting for a parcel.
Then having to go up to the Post office on my motorbike to carry home a huge box, and looking like a real goose.

  • +2

Any coupons for Silk Road buys?

    • +1

Your best bet for those sorts of deliveries would be motorcycle clubs, surely? ;)

      • Sorry my interpretation for 'Delivery for Anything You Can Send' is a little open. Bikies are more than $5 - Anyone have a coupon for them?

  • +1

+1 from me also. Is there an option for Sendle post when you are prepping an eBay item for sale?

    • +2

      Thanks blibster!

Sendle has been designed specifically with things like Gumtree or eBay in mind. So far we've had people use it in both cases for things that were listed as pick up only because the seller didn't want to have to go to the post office.

Until we have a full eBay integration it is still very simple as all you have to do is put in their email address and use the message area to put in the eBay item number. If you choose receiver pays then you don't need to incorporate shipping into the price of the item. If you do want to include the price of the item the delivery calculation is simple because of the flat rates.

Another hip company run by inner city DINKs.

    Carbon Free? What Eco nonsense.

    • +1
      ANOTHER LUDDITE.
  • What a cool company. I'll use them :]

  • Great for consumers, give aust post a run for their money

but your rates are still higher than the going rate with couriers (for businesses)

  • I sent the parcel to India through DTDC melbourne around 2 months ago' they told me it ll be $12.5 for 1kg if u send 20kg we can come to pick it for free. when they came the man told me we are sending both way means by weight & by volume he said u can put in this box upto 20kg if its more u need to pay xtra but i hardly put 16.5 in that box.so i was over charged by 4.5kg means i paid them extra $44.so that they charged me $250 for 16.5 KG that is very costly same as Australia post.

    • +2

      Was it your grammar book?

  • Does size matter? Want to send a sound bar… Also frequent use discount with this would be good.. Maybe just what I need to reignite my ozbargain / eBay business

    • +1

Website says 50cm max for any side.

  • Rep, could I send a 42" TV with this service?

  • From the about page: "Sendle utilises the power of established courier networks"

The way I read this is that you're a web-based service that provides a more streamlined way of booking pickups with existing courier companies. Similar to what Temando does.
Which courier company/companies do you use?

    • Hi Aussie89 we work with a number of couriers and are currently expanding our network and negotiating the best prices. For each order we choose the cheapest and best pathway from a range of couriers. We are also setting up a network of our own people to streamline the process and provide extra services beyond those normally available from couriers.

      • So can you name which courier networks you use? I'd like to try your service but need to know which couriers you use as I will avoid certain courier companies these days that have a bad reputation.

  • Your service is very interesting and your prices are very very cheap considering you do pick up door to door. I usually book Hunter Express through E-Go however I will definitely give you a try some time. I don't often send big items however.

  • +1

Do you have a Facebook page ? This sounds like a truly great service. Also, when you have Australia operational, how about looking at going further afield ? The US and UK/EU would be FANTASTIC to start something like this off.

    • Thanks parisienne!

Our Facebook page is at http://www.facebook.com/sendlecom.

We're all about making sending easy so we want to scale as quickly as possible to service as many locations as possible because that's part of making sending simple.

The team at Sendle are all people who send things often so we want to build the kind of service that we can use in all cases.

The quicker we grow in Australia, the faster we can scale internationally. That's why we want to reward our early adopters with discounts and lots of attention.

Any feedback or usage is much appreciated.

      Cheers!

  • Will you be able to extend your service such that you can pick up the TV from local stores to my place? What is the price if it goes beyond 10kg? Pro-rata?

  • to Sendle,

just a suggestion. On the front page of your website, it says packages cannot be more than 50cm "on all sides". This is later clarified as "on any side". Perhaps change the wording on the front page?

Aside: Pity, I'm about to send something about 3.5 kg and 62cm on one side

  • Not having a good experience with Sendle.
Tried my first parcel with them. It requires the receiver to email them with their address. I know the address but cannot enter it anywhere. In this case it is an eBay item and who knows, maybe the guy doesnt ever check it. Anyway, I emailed their support. Very slow to respond (like 1 message cycle a day) and super der obvious crap like "have you checked your spam folder". Didnt deal with my issue or answer it properly. Anyway overall a slow and frustrating time.
Will just have to use the post office.

    • Or use temando (a courier aggregator) which I use all the time for my business and have barely any problems since i worked out which courier companies to avoid and which to use

  • can Sendle deliver cheese knives?

    • Sure thing… just make sure they're packaged safely :)
