ARC Computer 16 GB USB Drive for $19.95

13

ARC is selling 16 GB A-Trans (Generic) USB Drive for $19.95.
Comes with 1 year shop warranty and 2 years manufacturer warranty.
Performance seems to be good enough, i copied 720 MB Linux ISO in 5 minutes, about 2.5 MB/sec.
They are primarily brick and mortar shop and they have several shops in Sydney. So far my experience with them has been stellar. Their price can be quite expensive, but from time to time they have pretty good specials.

  • My concern would be the manufacturer warranty who is the company are there are specs about it ? cheap though

    • It's made in china. Seems to be just a generic a-trans branded usb drive. It's a bit scary, but i have bought several things from the shop in the past and if i have a warranty claim, they would just swap it with the new one on the spot. so i guess i'm willing to gamble with their reputation :)

Let me tell you AVOID THIS LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought one yesterday and JUST RETURNED IT!

    1) The flash drive is as slow as molasses on a bloody cold morning

    2) Upon placing in my system Avira AntiVirus showed it as having some derivative of a trojan on there. I raised this with Arc who were rude and dismissive - they said their instore AV, McAfee didn't find anything and it was as simple as that - morons!

Its not unknown for cheapo drives from China to ship with nasties on them - stories of this are around the place.

    3) The flash drive I got was faulty, had massive problems playing back material that'd been transfered to it - ran tests through HD Tach and it showed the flash memory was faulty.

Returned it to ARC who were rude - when I asked if they could test a replacement for me to ensure it didn't happen again they refused - said take the replacement or get a refund and leave.

If you want a GOOD quality cheap flash drive get this: http://www.netplus.com.au/products-detail.asp?code=MY3&cat=M… - using the OCAU delivery (if you're a member only)

Or this if you're not: http://www.instantpcshop.com.au/pcshop/446/index.php?product…

Sorry but its a crap deal - sounds good but is crap.

    :-(

  • Very thorough post Nikko. Thanks you for informing us of your experiences.

  • Yes, thanks Nikko. I certainly would have bought one otherwise.
