A lot of money for a terrible mouse (speaking as someone who has one)

    • Want to sell yours? :D

A couple of my colleagues is starting to feel pain in their wrists (probably RSI?). I feel the mouse is at least ergonomic compared to the Macbook pro mouse pad without losing the gestures functionality.

      • The most used gestures are scrolling, zooming (one modifier key or you could map it to the mouse) and forward / back which real mice have buttons for

Sacrificing ergonomics and quality of a real mouse to get those seems a mistake.

I use four-fingers to change between my programs and screens. Is there a way to map that functionality to a mouse with multiple buttons?

EDIT: It appears that the magic mouse is not capable of sensing four contact points :(

EDIT2: 4 finger swipe is equivalent to a 2 finger swipe.

      • pain probably from having a maz lol :P

      • Yeah, mate of mine had one, given to him by the company, and he got RSI from it, so got a brace for his wrist and a new mouse. Evil things

Yes, looks good, but it not very ergonomic at all. And doesn't glide very easily.

      • Can you please explain further? As i've understood it, the placement of the mouse has greater impact than the design.

When you use a mouse you place your palm like a dorm over the mouse with the inside of the palm resting on the back of the mouse. It take little effort to glide the mouse over surfaces in all directions. The index and middle finger resting on the two buttons and a slight twitch of the finger will trigger the buttons.

Now with this silly mouse there are 3 design which the above action quite difficult. 1 - Its too flat so in attempt to rest your dormed palm on it all your fingers touches the surface first, so most of the time your natural reaction is to pick up the mouse with yours fingers and move it arround, now after doing that for 10mins your fingers become stiff. 2. Theres an edge arround the mouse, you feel this edge in your hand. 3. Instead of feets its has two rails so it make north/south movement easier then west/east movements might sound trivial but after 10mins use your hand become tired wrestling an uneven force. Which lead to the next problem - the whole thing make clicking the button quite hard.

But it look fantastic on my desk next to my iPhone

        • I think the Magic Mouse is fantastic and very ergonomic, but only if you use it like Apple originally planned for mice to be used - ie. with only one button. If you try to use it as a two-button mouse you'll get RSI in a matter of minutes.

If you hold the mouse very gently and rest your index finger on the area of the mouse that would normally be a right click button, the mouse works beautifully and is a joy to use.

And if you ever need to perform a right click, holding down the control key and clicking gives the same result.

@beginthebargain: keep justifying yourself getting pwned by a multinational

@pensionday: Unfortunately, I think almost all computer manufacturers are multinationals ;)
At least I wasn't silly enough to waste days lining up for an iPhone 6 Plus! Apple's definitely playing catch-up lately.

I agree, horrible mouse, for the last iMac I got, I chose the trackpad instead, just because their mouse are so bad. I don't use the trackpad either, I use a Logitech M950 at home and work, great ergonomics, and nice weight.

You can get them for $85+ at several places - http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=logitech%20m950…

    Yeah, but does it bend?

    • I came in just to post this. Damn.

    • Bechkam is going to do a bend test of this.

  • Get a Logitech gaming mouse if you want comfort. Bit ugly though

  • I love it. I find it much better than most mice that I've used. Though there's no middle mouse click, which means I can't always use it (ie, right now…)

Depends how much you use your mouse/computer (i.e. heavy user/daily user with hand always on mouse or more casual web browsing?). I find the way I hold this mouse to be very raised rather than resting on it comfortably… but the gestures are nice, and it looks slick. That being said, it's never caused me much strain or discomfort, but I do notice it. Personally, I prefer the Apple trackpad.

  • No idea how ppl can use this on a daily basis, after about 30 mins i was going to throw it out the window… except i couldnt cuz it was a client of mine…
