  • Pity it doesnt have better graphics specs . .

  • It's not brilliant graphics, but it's leagues ahead of any other 17"er at the price and for a non/light-gaming desktop replacement it's a bargain.

  • At this price, WOW!
For most of the users, this is more than adequate.

    Cheers,

PS: Personally, I will pass this one…I am not satisfied with a laptop with muscle, I want it to have some teeth as well!!

  • That's a great buy …
Hurry up and come to WA Aldi!

    • aye, all these weekly bargains that WAers can only dream of….

  • $1 short of being able to claim it under the 50% Small Business Investment allowance! arggghh

    • +7

maybe you can claim it if buy it by credit card and incur the 1% surcharge :)

      • Good idea! lol

      • That's an awesome idea! Just might work :)

        • +3

I'm afraid it won't work. It is more than a dollar short as GST is not included in the calculation. Price needs to be $1000 not including GST.

    • +1

You can combine several items to make up $1000, and the invoices don't all have to come from one vendor; read the fine print in the tax office letter.

  • "notebook"? That's like calling a Honda Goldwing a scooter.
More like a telephone directory. What does this thing weigh?

  • One thing it didn't mention is the weight of this thing. I wonder whether it also comes with discount vouchers for physio after carrying this "notebook".

  • Specs look pretty good for the bucks, plus it comes with what I'm told is the only reason TO buy a computer: a coupon that you can use to upgrade to Windows® 7 Home Premium for just €19.95* :p

Only problem is, I don't buy anything from Aldi that I can't afford to just throw in the bin when it ceases to function!

I've had a couple of negative experiences in the past with both the Medion helpdesk/warranty people and store/regional managers over faulty products that have required the intervention of Fair Trading to enforce statutory obligations, so I just don't trust them, sorry, it's just a personal thing now, I know others are perfectly happy - who knows, perhaps they've picked up their game as far as state consumer law goes, but no matter how enticing the product, I don't risk it!

That said, I'm giving a + vote coz as bang for buck goes at face value it looks good! ;)

  • heheh get your tents ready to camp outside the store…

    • i've already pitched a pants tent.

  • It's good but the style looks pretty average and i'm not sure my local aldi stock computers.

  • At 17 inches, it's really a desktop replacement… pity about the graphics then

    • Yeah 15" and above are more or less desktop replacements cause they're just too big and heavy to carry around on a day to day basis. Netbooks are the way to go if you actually want to be mobile with these things.

Great deal at this price. G210M is ~3900 3dmark06: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-G-210M.17638.0.h… . If need gaming graphics (HD4650), would be paying at least another $300 more: http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/?tag=gaming_notebooks2

It isn't really a bargain if you consider the amount of ALDI laptops from the last patch which overheated due to not only being cheap with bad cooling & ventilation, but by also having the Nvidia chipset which already runs extremely hot. I've personally seen 3 ALDI Laptops die just out of warranty. They are also practically impossible to get new motherboards for.

Good luck to anyone that expects this notebook to last longer then a year or two.

if they randomly shutdown due to overheating, could just open the case up and clean out the fan/sink and any air vents. heat is one of the easier laptop problems to deal with. better than say a loose battery or screen.

  • anyone know when these are going to be available from?
    I'm in Melb.

    • Computer says,,, yes, now in fact… ;)
Edit - I stand corrected. Available Thu 10/9.

  • You wouldn't believe the number of people I've spoken to (who are in the market for new laptops) in the last week who've given various analogues of the old "nice legs, shame about the face" comment regarding the specs vs branding on this one! I honestly thought it was just me who didn't trust Aldi! :o

I'll be really interested to hear some feedback from purchasers! ;)
