Enter "shop50" at checkout, I know you can get grey imports of this phone for around $320… But personally I'd rather Australian stock and warranty, if you feel the same this is the best price I've seen.

I think there are better phones out at this price point…

    • +1

That was about $440 after shipping is factored in, that's not even remotely the same price point.

    • $103 more for an S5 from eBay deals 2wks ago, hurts to buy an S3 let alone S4

  • +9

You can get a Nexus 5 for this price (on special). I think you'd be a sucker to get this old thing. Pay a little more and get something modern.

    • +1

Camera on S3 kills the Nexus 5 for quality. I am not just talking MP, I am talking actual picture quality.

      • If you were super keen on camera you could get any number of phones that came out this year or even last year that are better than the S3. If that's the only reason you got this phone then that's kinda silly. It will only show its age more and more. In 2 years that phone will be 5 years old.

I paid less for this phone 18 months ago!

    • Me too. Ow price match was cheaper in start of 2013 for aust stock

Kind of getting sick of the negativity from this community.
This deal is for anyone that wants a new samsung galaxy s3 now… not a year ago, not someone who wants a nexus..
Yes there is better phones, yes there is better prices via grey imports.

I posted this to simply help out anyone that wanted to buy a s3 now in australia and can't afford a s4, geez.

I understand where you are coming from and I'm sorry for my post. But Ozbargainers find the best possible products available at the best possible prices. I'm sure there are better phones ahead of the galaxy s3 now 18 months later than when I purchased mine, that are much cheaper for example the moto g which is gettable at around the $200 mark on special. This is not reasonablypriced bargains this is ozbargain. This is the type of bargain that my wifes friend would think is good that she saw in a catalogue.

      • +1

But is this old, slow phone no body wants. I don't see how it's a bargain. I bought the s3 couples yr back and it's now slow as heck. Doesn't charge properly. Issues connecting to wifi. Peice of Samsung crap

      • Bought a note 2 more than six months ago from Amazon UK for 370. Yes it isn't local stock but still.

    • +3

but why would anyone want to specifically get the s3 though,
besides people arent being negative, they are just pointing to alternatives for other people who may have seen this while looking for a new phone with good value.

    • +1

A view different to yours = Negative.

That's a pretty sad way to look at the world.

    • +2

You wouldn't have to save for much longer to afford an S4 anyway.
      It's $379 plus delivery at Kogan -

  • @treeman: was your phone aus stock? If so where did you buy it from?

    • Yeah it was, from Office Works. Matched a price online.

  • +1

I paid $330 for the OnePlus One!

    no deal imo

  • +3

I paid $390 to get the 64gb oneplus one when it was on sale last week. I'm upgrading from my GS3 :P
The GS3 certainly isn't a bad phone though.

    • +1

It will be interesting to see what you think of the quality of the OnePlus One, particularly the camera.

Is your GS3 the 3G or 4G model?

      • I think it might have just been the 3G model. I was with crazy john's at the time and got a $55/m deal that came with the phone and unlimited texts/calls and 2gb data. I know that the data icon at the top only shows up as 3G.
Hopefully I'll get the OPO soon, it's been posted. Good point with the camera - I have no idea how the OPO will perform but for that price it was worth a punt.

      • I should add that I'm giving the GS3 to my dad as he was stuck with the crappy galaxy ace. If he didn't need a better phone I would probably keep it for longer before upgrading.

Soft home button, not hard, Galaxy S3 wins.

  • I noticed this was on sale for £99 on Hotdeals UK (now back up to £140 but is unlocked) would this also work over here?

  • +2

I paid 279 with recent 15% ebay discounts from
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAND-NEW-SAMSUNG-GALAXY-SIII-S3-…

  • +2

Nowhere near a bargain. Especially now we have moto g.

  • +2

I actually own the moto g LTE and would happily go back to a S3.
Bigger screen, dedicated home button as opposed to on screen navigation, massive amount of custom roms and MIUI support.

Samsung and apple come at a premium price. It's like saying why would anyone still buy an apple 5S for $600 when you can buy a Samsung S5 for less. Because everyone is different.

You can all sit here and whine this is a crap deal and there is better phones, but ultimately I was just pointing out this would be the cheapest stock in australia IF someone wanted to buy a S3 for what ever reason.

I really get what you mean by the negativity! Sometimes comments are plain disrespectful to the fact that you are just trying to help.

However, I really appreciate the constructive comments where alternatives, specs and reviews are shared. Sometimes that's the way to furn a good bargain post to the best bargain thread.

Dont be disheartened by the few who are acting a bit mean spirited. Keep up the good bargain posting!

  • It's just too slow now, I'm still using one.
30 months old now, bit of a clunker, 1gb ram = pain :(

  • I got a new one of these about 6 months ago after my first one I had since mid 2012 was lost (replace by insurance) And it is just too slow (even the new one was noticeably slow), If I press any button to turn the screen on it takes about 5 seconds. Got a one plus one for about $20 ($390 all up) more than the listed price here and it is well worth the money extra money compared to this

Edit: This is about as bad as me posting this saying it's a deal: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Nexus-Unlocked-Phone-U-S-Warra…

It's all old tech why pay a premium for it when there is simply better stuff out there

  • honestly don't know what people are doing to their phone to say they are that slow. wife just replaced her s3 with s5 the s3 still lag free running great.. my note 2 still pushing strong as new, would like a note 4 but looks like this is going to last quite a while. and as the poster pointed out the post was not a forum for discussing which phone is better, he has just given the best available price for AU stock s3. for debates about the best phone go to gsmarena

  • +1

I have been using an S3 for the past 2 years and I can say that Samsung's touchwiz slows the phone down immensely … I installed cynagenmod onto my S3 and everything works fine and smoothly - I've chucked the phone around over the past two years and it hasn't broken, so definitely no complaints around build quality … but as people have mentioned, there are definitely many alternatives at this price range and I wouldn't call the product itself a bargain.
