Jetstar: Japan on Sale, Gold Coast to Tokyo for $393 Return Including Tax!

230

Jetstar have dropped the Godzilla on their fares to Japan, offering direct flights between the Gold Coast and Tokyo for an amazing $393 return, including tax! Strangely enough, they’re also offering “sale” fares between Sydney and Tokyo (via Gold Coast) for a much less amazing $614 return, despite fares between Sydney and the Gold Coast coming nowhere near the $212 difference. In a similar fashion, fares between Melbourne and Tokyo (via Gold Coast) are selling for $666 return. Personally, I just don’t like that price tag.

My advice:

  • From Brisbane/Gold Coast, purchase the $393 Gold Coast - Tokyo tickets and go for broke

  • From Sydney, purchase the $393 Gold Coast - Tokyo tickets and match them with Jetstar’s 6:15/8:45am flight to the Gold Coast, 9:40am flight back (~$138 return, save $83)

  • From Melbourne, purchase the $393 Gold Coast - Tokyo tickets and match them with Tiger Airways’ 6:50am flight to the Gold Coast, 13:05pm flight back (~$176 return, save $97)

  • Virgin Blue and Tiger also run flights between the Gold Coast and Canberra, Adelaide, Perth and regional centres. Check AirNinja.com for advice.

Plus some additional fare-matching tips:

  • Search for fares from November onwards. October availability is spotty, especially if you’re planning to match your Gold Coast – Tokyo flights with domestic legs

  • Do plan to arrive at the international terminal at least two hours prior to the scheduled departure to Tokyo and leave about the same between the scheduled arrival back in the Gold Coast and your connecting domestic segment

Please note that all fares are calculated based on no check-in baggage allowance and a bit of legwork via Adioso.com. Sale fares also exist for Cairns – Tokyo, plus from the Gold Coast to Osaka. Sale is on now, until 9 September, for travel between 1 October – 15 December. Check out Jetstar’s sale page for further details and to book (via Flighthacker.com, http://ow.ly/obh8)

wtf… im sorry am i on a dating website or ozbargain?

  • Lame why brisy but great for yalls from bris

  • How much do you spend (overall) for foods and accommodations in japan? (approx. 7-10 days trip)

    • We didn't spend that much. Check out hostelworld.com for really cheap accomodation (I highly recommend the capsule inn in Akihabara! Its an awesome experience!)

Also if you're brave, market stalls are your friend.

If you're planning on venturing outside of Tokyo, I would also COMPLETELY recommend getting a Japan Rail Pass before you go. It gives you almost unlimited train travel through the country and suburban travel as well. (Doesn't include the final train to Mt Fuji).

Have a good time, I'm so jealous! Get me a gashapon!

      • thanks, djkizz! sounds exciting!!!!

    • Approx $800 for two weeks of accomdation

Food varies from $500 to $1000

Yes definately get a JR Pass if you plan on visiting all over Japan.
Site for JR train info: http://www.hyperdia.com/cgi-english/hyperWeb.cgi

Also if you primarily stay in Tokyo, I recommend getting the SUICA card (2000Yen with 1500Yen credit).
If you fly into Narita get a NEX + SUICA Card for 3500Yen (Includes Train tickets to Tokyo and 1500Yen spending on trains)

      • food is the cheapest thing there. I ate in Ikebukuro at ramen shops for as little as 500 yen per meal and I'd leave so full I felt sick!

Sakura Hotel Ikebukuro is 70 dollars a night. It's fairly decent and close to the station.

        • $800 for 2 weeks?!
great info, Turd and quantocks! thanks.

  • it is rather strange/unusual fee structure for Jetstar Japan sale. It is indeed cheap from Gold Coast to Tokyo.
It's all up to you if you want to look for domestic connecting flights separately. Don't forget travel insurance and enjoy Japan!
