I'm pretty sure it was only $99 when I got one in July.

    • That was a pre order or intro offer or something wasn't it?

      • Possibly, I just saw it on another post here…

    • Mostly retail shops like officeworks are sale it $139.

      • +5

Will they price match minus 5% ??? (=$94.05)

      • +1

It's also $139 online if you remove -99promo from the end of the URL :P

When I was looking at Officeworks around 2 months ago they were $99, I was put off by the ill informed salesmen telling me that because they sell them for $99 you never need to pay fee's with them…

    • Would you mind sharing how long it took them to ship it?

      • +1

I ordered a few days before release and it would have been within a week of the release date I believe…

  • Links to the deal being alerted as phishing site. Try go to paypal official URL didn't mention such deal.

Not this again. Please read comments from last time it was posted.

      try this link: www.paypal.com.au/99promo
Pretty sure we can agree that is an official paypal web address.

Ok, after looking at the link provided by Kamoi, scott mentioned about using https instead of unsecured, "http" and my kaspersky didn't prompt any more security issue. OP may want to add "https" to the link so not to confuse other, like myself?

        • Not sure if a Mod did it or it was already like that, but it is https now :-)

        • So…. Kaspersky was the problem.

Didn't realise it requires bluetooth pairing, I imagine most customers would prefer the convenience of paypass/normal swipe instead of fiddling with bluetooth.

    • I imagine most customers would prefer the convenience of paypass/normal swipe instead of fiddling with bluetooth.

      I don't think it's designed for supermarkets to use…

It works great for those who have a business and need to provide for the occasional credit card payment on site…

      • Agreed, it is so perfect for businesses that have market stalls occasionally and cant justify the monthly fees on EFTPOS machines.

        • There's all minimal 'fiddling'. Once you've set it up the first time, you just turn on the device and it pairs within about 15 secs, all you do is launch the app and use it…

        • EFTPOS? Was just credit card & visa/mastercard debit from memory.
Moving forward most people will probably have those, at the moment seems a fair few don't.

I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think customers need to use bluetooth to make a payment?

      • they don't… bluetooth pairs the device with the phone that has the merchant's paypal here app installed…

the customer views the amount on the phone's screen, then inserts their card and enter their pin… done.

      • Correct. The reader needs to be paired to a bluetooth device that can access the net to allow completion of the transaction.

  • fyi i applied for mine over 2 weeks ago and i am still waiting for there approval process

    • waiting for there approval process

are you referring to the approval process to get a merchant account ???

I didn't have to wait to order the reader, I just ordered it and they sent it…

  • so when they say the transactions are charged at 1.95%, is it charged to the seller or to the buyer?

    • +2

      All charges to the seller

    • You can just compensate in the app by adding a 1.95% surcharge. Although, wouldn't make too many people happy

      • Depends how informed the client is. Tons of stores, in many industries, pass-on/charge fees for use of credit.

  • Is there any monthly charge to use PayPal Card reader service?

    • +2

No, Paypal charges commission per transaction.

1.95% for transactions through card reader
      1.95% for PayPal check-in payments
2.4% + $0.30 for Invoices sent through the app

2.9% + $0.30 for Key in card payments
No fee for recording cash payments

  • I use it and I pay $139 :(

  • +6

Hmmm i want one but I'm not a shop I don't have a use lols

  • What does "Invoices sent through the app" mean?

    • It's incomprehensible.

    • +3

Input customer email address and they receive invoice/ receipt to their inbox.

  • +1

Can I use this with eneloops? :) (And leave both on the shelf)

    I hate paypal.

Yes I'm aware of what this device does, this was just a general comment about paypal.

  • I presume this works over a wifi connection (I mean from my phone via wifi to a Mobile 4G device which is my internet connection).

Also can it work while offline, and later when there is a signal available do the processing, or does it need a mobile signal (active internet connection) to work at all?

    • +1

I am not 100% sure, but I believe it needs an active internet connection.

  • I sell a lot of things on eBay but would like to sell outside of eBay as well. Would this suit me. Say on the odd occasion I go on Facebook and advertise and people want to come to me to pick up and they can use this service or pay cash. What would be the best thing to do in this case.

    • It's not clear what your issue is. You could use this device (or a competitors like PayMate).

    • Cash is king.

That said, some items are more-often bought on credit. Like high value non-essential sales. So having the extra option may avoid "the one thay got away".

  • ** Be aware this gizmo does NOT work with a Windows phone. Has to be Android or Apple.

I just showed this to Officeworks in Nunawading and they price matched it - got it for $94.05 :-)

    • Fees are ridiculously high - i have a NAB Merchant account which charges up to a quarter of the cost. (0.7% - 1.8% depending on the card)

    • Your money goes into paypal account, which they can lock down and restrict as they see fit

    • Customers have to enter a pin. No phone payments.

    • Paypal suck.

Seriously, if you want to take mobile payments, check out Paymate, ANZ Fast pay (Same fees), or setup a proper merchant account. This is amateur hour.

    • What are the monthly charges for your merchant account?

I don't think you really understand the target market for this product.

    • I also have a NAB merchant account accepting between 1k - 4k / month. Checking a random selection of statements shows savings of $3 - $30 / month using Paypal. The smallest savings was on months with much higher than usual EFTPOS transactions which have a fixed fee rather than a percentage fee.

  • errr… i just missed it!

  • +5

I emailed paypal asking them if the deal was still available and they sent me this URL which still works: http://www.paypal.com.au/associate

    • thank you sooo much for sharing the URL! Just ordered one now!
